As I have mentioned before, the Mirador del Río is one of the most scenic locations in Lanzarote. The viewpoint is yet another work by César Manrique and sits almost 1,550 feet above sea level, making it the highest point of the Risco de Famara. As I mentioned earlier, if you’re in El Golfo, you must visit Charco de los Clicos since it’s in close proximity.
Charco de los Clicos is a volcanic crater eroded on one rim, giving it a crescent shape. Erosion also allows seawater to fill the crater, forming an intensely green lagoon. This color originates from algae inside bearing a high sulfur content.
While you can’t swim here, it’s one of the most beautiful places in Lanzarote, and an excellent spot to photograph. To get there, follow the path from El Golfo that goes to the panoramic viewpoint of Charco de los Clicos. It’s a pleasant walk thanks to the lovely surrounding landscapes, so don’t forget your camera.
14. Los Hervideros, something you must see in Lanzarote
Another Lanzarote attraction that can be found in Los Volcanes Natural Park in Yaiza is Los Hervideros. The name originates from the effect caused by ocean waves crashing against these ancient lava tubes. The splashing of the water toward the cliffs evokes the image of boiling water or a hot spring (el hervidero).
Los Hervideros borders Timanfaya National Park, so from here, you can obtain stunning views of the cliffs with the volcanoes in the background. Ideally, you should visit this area when the seas are rough to really experience the effect.

You should also keep an eye out for the Cory’s shearwater, an endangered bird species native to the island.
The complete hike is about 4.3 miles, so it’ll take around three hours to finish. The Tremesana Route is another hike that can be taken in Lanzarote. Reservations through this link are required to join a guided tour for this trail, as tours are restricted to eight individuals per group, so advance booking is advisable. Plans needed alteration so participation in the sole excursion with two available spots could occur.
Naturally, it was entirely worthwhile, as we had a knowledgeable guide with us who shared all kinds of fascinating facts about the area and its geological history. Plus, it was a free activity to do in Lanzarote, which was an additional bonus.
You’ll pass through Timanfaya National Park and meet your guide in Yaiza, where you’ll begin an incredible journey through the volcanic landscape of Tremesana. The total hike is a little under three miles and takes around three hours to complete. The marketplace is only open on Sundays, but if you’re visiting on any other day, it’s still worth it. This is one of the best towns inLanzarote, and you can easily spend half a day here exploring its attractions. Afterward, head to one of the local restaurants for a traditional Canarian meal.

Visiting La Graciosa is a must for those in Lanzarote, and several excursions from Lanzarote offer day trips to La Graciosa. While its primary attractions can be seen in a day, we opted to spend a night on this incredible island to allow more time for exploration.
To visit La Graciosa from Lanzarote, one must take the ferry from Órzola. Upon arrival at La Graciosa, cyclists can tour spots like Las Conchas Beach,Bermeja Mountain, or Francesa Beach. Or hikers can behold scenic panoramas along trails. With limited time, booking this tour including roundtrip ferry and catamaran cruise around La Graciosa, proves ideal.
This may be a small island, but it’s full of wonderful natural sights and volcanic landscapes, so it’s one of the top places near Lanzarote worth visiting.
19. Stroll along Famara Beach, a relaxing thing to do in Lanzarote
You can’t travel to Lanzarote without exploring the beach, and Famara Beach is one of the finest. Here, the waves and ocean breeze are ideal for enjoying aquatic activities in Lanzarote, so if you’re a fan of surfing, it’s the place to visit.
There are various activities available such as surfing, bodyboarding, kitesurfing, and windsurfing. You can also take a paragliding trip similar to this oneto view the beach from above. If you’re up for something less intense, take a stroll along the coastline and check out the pools and tidepools that form with the ebb and flow of the tide.
Another option here is visiting the Risco de Famara viewpoint, a 1,575-foot cliff overlooking the beach and part of the island. Bring your camera, as the photographic opportunities here are undeniable. The viewpoint is situated in El Bosquecillo Park, between Teguise and Haría. It can be accessed via car, though the road is quite narrow and winding, so take extra care while driving.
20. Las Grietas, a little-known place to visit in Lanzarote
Las Grietas is a nice place to explore in Lanzarote and a hidden gem that some travelers don’t have knowledge of. Here, you will find layers of solidified lava that were formed thousands of years ago by several volcanic eruptions. The region is renowned for its curious geological formations, particularly where the slope of the Montaña Blanca volcano fractures, and this is where the name Las Grietas originated from.
As mentioned, this location isn’t very widely known, so if you’re looking for attractions in Lanzarote that are away from the main paths, Las Grietas is a great selection. Furthermore, this area is an excellent illustration of the island’s volcanic history, so it holds much significance.
To arrive at this location, take highway LZ-35, which connects the towns of San Bartolomé and Tías. You’ll find an unpaved area where you can leave your vehicle. Then, walk through the tunnel to the opposite side of the road and follow the path ascending into the mountains toward Las Grietas.
21. Visit the Jardín de Cactus, an interesting place to visit in Lanzarote, Canary Islands
The garden of cacti (Cactus Garden) is another accomplishment of César Manrique that has become a well-known tourist destination in Lanzarote.
This unique garden covering an area of 54,000 square feet houses about ten thousand cacti representing approximately fourteen hundred distinct species. It is easily identifiable thanks to its twenty-six foot tall statue, which is actually a giant cactus. The garden is situated in Teguise and also features old preserved mills, a bar, and a café embellished with one of Manrique`s murals.

The museum outlines the motivations and processes behind iconic works like the Mirador del Río, the Cueva de los Verdes, the Jameos del Agua, and the Jardín del Cactus.
The building itself is located in the middle of a lovely palm forest in Haría and is open daily from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Admission is only €10 and €3 for kids ages 7-12, making this an advantageous activity for friends and families to engage in Lanzarote. Also, remember that if you’re interested in seeing some of Manrique’s creations personally, you can embark on this tour and save on admission to several attractions.
The particularly notable Salinas de Janubio (Janubio Salt Flats) offer an unusual perspective of the island, and they are nearby the Charco de los Clicos and Los Hervideros, so you can combine all three major Lanzarote attractions in a single day. I would suggest experiencing the salinas last since, at sunset, the golden glow is beautifully mirrored in the salt flats.
While the salt flats were nonfunctional for a time, they’re back in operation and create some of the best salt in the world. This natural protected area also contains Janubio Beach, which is composed of black volcanic pebbles. It’s worth exploring both places in Lanzarote, notably since the landscapes are so striking.
24. The Atlantic Museum & other diving sites in Lanzarote
For a completely exclusive activity to engage in Lanzarote, I propose visiting the Atlantic Museum. This gallery is highly distinctive in that it’s located 50 feet underwater. Below the surface of the water, you’ll encounter a collection of underwater sculptures by artist Jason de Caires Taylor, as well as indigenous marine life and coral flora.
If you’re up for an experience away from shore, head to Playa Blanca, one of the most notable coastal towns in Lanzarote and home to the Atlantic Museum. Another lovely natural pool located in the town of Haría. Charco del Palo is a popular destination to visit on Lanzarote for nude swimming and sunbathing and was the initial region to permit nudism in the Canary Islands back in the 1970s.
Another one which I recommend is Caletón Blanco, a natural cove with calm, crystalline waters and a mix of fine white sand and black volcanic pebbles. It’s near Órzola and is one of the best places to visit in Lanzarote with children since the waters are super tranquil.
