Hotel Review

Anax Resort and Spa – Romantic resort with a private beachfront including an excellent culinary program, full-service salon and spa facilities, and two saltwater infinity pools.

Accommodations, suites, and maisonettes all have private balconies, most with ocean views, many with outdoor jacuzzis, and some with private pools. Two sparkling infinity pools and a large hot tub overlook the Aegean. The hotel’s dining area provides a casually elegant atmosphere, Greek and Mediterranean fare, a carefully selected wine list, and an ideal place for sunset viewing. Anax Resort’s well-being center highlights a phenomenal spa with a selection of holistic therapies, along with a salon and gym. The private beach includes a sandy, manmade section surrounded by sun loungers and facing a gorgeous rocky shoreline. Sandy Agios Ioannis Beach is only a short walk away. Major advantage: the hotel offers complimentary arrival and departure transfers to and from the airport and ferry port, plus free shuttle service to Agios Ioannis and Ornos Beaches).”

Anax Resort & Spa – Location

  • Area: Anax is situated on its own private beach approximately 350 meters south of the tranquil Agios Ioannis Beach, where you’ll discover a couple of excellent restaurants. It’s a steep climb down a rocky stretch separating the hotel’s private beach, so most people stroll along the main road, about a 9-minute walk northwest, or take the hotel’s free shuttle. Walking in the opposite direction for about 13-minutes leads to lively Ornos Beach for additional dining venues, beach clubs, and the water taxi connecting the south coast beaches. The sole location on Mykonos for kitesurfing, Korfos Beach, is approximately 16-minutes away on foot. Anax Resort is only a 4-minute walk to the bus stop for Mykonos Town.
  • The hotel is located in Agios Ioannis on a road off the main road to Mykonos Town, easy to access by vehicle, bus, or taxi. It’s around 8 km from the Mykonos ferry port in Tourlos and 5 km from the Mykonos Airport to the hotel.

To arrive at the hotel by public transportation, take the bus heading towards Fabrika from the Airport or Tourlos Ferry Port (also known as the “New Port”). During the peak summer months, these airport and seaport routes operate multiple times daily but offer less regular or no service in the winter season. Disembark at Fabrika in Mykonos Town and transfer to the second bus traveling in the direction of Agios Ioannis. The initial ride from the Airport or Ferry Terminal to Fabrika normally takes about 10 minutes, then the connection to Agios Ioannis usually takes around 10 additional minutes. The total cost for the journey should be approximately €4 and take less than an hour depending on wait times when switching buses in Fabrika. Tickets can be purchased in cash directly from the driver or at a staffed kiosk located at the terminals. Buses tend to run every 30 minutes or so during peak summer hours with less frequent intervals at night, early mornings and winter. It is approximately a 4-minute walk from the bus stop
Transportation is also accessible from the port or airport, though there are approximately 30 taxis providing for the whole island, so there is frequently a lengthy wait; plan for a ride through a private vehicle service ahead of time to circumvent this (I employ and recommend Welcome Pickups). Taxis on Mykonos do not utilize meters, so be certain to agree on a cost with the driver before embarking. A taxi from the airport or ferry port to Anax Resort & Spa will probably cost about €20 to €25. Scheduling through a private vehicle service will cost just a little more – around $38 (or €31) and is worthwhile to avoid the wait and for the advantage of prepaying.

For those who prefer to drive themselves, we recommend renting a vehicle either at the airport on arrival, or in Mykonos Town. We strongly recommend reserving a conveyance in advance, especially if you require automatic transition. Upon arrival at the hotel, Anax offers free parking.

  • Nearby: Agios Ioannis Beach, Ornos Beach & the Water Taxi, and Korfos Beach.

Anax Resort & Spa – The Basics

  • Ages: The hotel welcomes all ages and provides several suites accommodating up to four guests; larger families may need two rooms. High chairs are available in the restaurant, and special dishes can be made for children. Babysitting arranged upon request. The complimentary shuttle eases transportation for families, mitigating the distance from bustling attractions.”
  • Beach: The hotel sits on a private beach with a manmade sandy section and a natural rocky sea entrance with crystal clear water. Guests also have access to the longer sandy beach at Saint John Hotel, a sister property located right next door. The slow-paced Agios Ioannis Beach, a narrow strip of soft sand with a handful of restaurants, is about 400m northwest of Anax along the coastline, though it’s a steep climb over some rocks, so most people walk along the inland road for 9 minutes or take the hotel’s free shuttle. Both the hotel’s beach and Agios Ioannis Beach face west with uninterrupted sunset views toward Delos Island, the mythic birthplace of Apollo and Artemis.
  • Perspective: Most rooms and suites feature a complete sea perspective. The Executive 2 Bedroom Suite, Exclusive 2 Bedroom Suite with Private Pool, and some Exclusive Suites with Private Pools offer side sea views. The Anax Suite provides 1 bedroom with a king-sized bed, a separate living area, an indoor jacuzzi tub and separate shower, a spacious sun terrace, and an outdoor private pool spanning a generous 75 square meters. For travel during the height of summer, this is the best choice; however, the swimming pool (like all pools on site) is not heated. For spring and fall trips, consider the smaller (55 square meters – still quite roomy) Luxury Beachfront Suite with Outdoor Hot Tub. This open-plan suite with a king-sized bed and outdoor heated hot tub directly above the private beach. The Luxury Beachfront Suite is the only room onsite with a heated outdoor hot tub.
  • For Family Units: Anax Resort is available to guests of all ages. Facilities appealing to those with children involve spacious lodgings, kid-friendly meals, high chairs in the dining area, and babysitting upon request. The complimentary shuttle to nearby beaches, transportation at the start and end of stays, and golf carts around the property make navigating effortless and affordable for family groups. The largest quarters can sleep up to four people; larger families necessitate booking a second room or lodging. Perhaps the best choice for families is the Exclusive 2 Bedroom Suite with Private Pool, a 55-square-meter lodging with one king-sized bed and two twin beds, a combination jacuzzi bath and shower area, and an outside plunge pool on an ample deck exposed to sunlight.

Anax Resort & Spa – Local Transport

  • Walking: The Anax Resort is situated on a cliff overlooking its private beach around 350 meters south of Agios Ioannis Beach, roughly a 9-minute walk to the public beach area where you`ll find several excellent restaurants with sunset views. Ornos Beach and Korfos Beach are both around a 15-minute walk away along routes without sidewalks, though many take the hotel`s complimentary shuttle to Ornos, and taxis, the bus, or driving are also possibilities. From Ornos, it`s only a brief walk north to Korfos. Ornos Beach is one of the best beaches on the island for swimming, lounging, and dining, with multiple quality restaurants and beach clubs along its edge. There is also a water taxi service here that stops at most of the southern beaches along the island. Korfos Beach does not have as beautiful a setting as Ornos, but it is the sole beach allowing kitesurfing on the island. There are a few eateries, grocery stores, and a pharmacy near Korfos Beach.
  • Public transportation: The closest bus stop to Anax is just a 4-minute walk away. Buses from here go to Ornos then on to Mykonos Town, where passengers can disembark at Fabrika and walk to Little Venice, the Old Port, and all of the main areas. At Fabrika, travelers can also catch a second bus to the New Port (Tourlos Ferry Port), Airport, and the beaches at Platis Gialos,Paradise, and Paraga. Or riders can disembark at Fabrika and walk to the Old Port to catch a bus to the New Port, Ano Mera village, and the beaches at Kalafati, Agios Stefanos, Kalo Livadi, Elia, and Panormos. There is no direct bus connecting Fabrika and the bus station at the Old Port; it takes approximately 14 minutes to travel between the two locations on foot. Fares range from €1,60 to €2,30 depending on the destination served. Buses can become very crowded, especially during peak season, so much so that they regularly reach full capacity and can no longer accommodate additional riders. Only 26 public buses serve the island. Bus schedules vary every couple of weeks, so travelers should check the KTEL website for the most updated timetables.
  • Taxi: There is no designated taxi waiting area in Agios Ioannis. The closest taxi stands are in Mykonos Town at Fabrika and the Old Port, so they are not very convenient to reach, plus there is usually a wait at either location as only 30 taxis service the entire island. Instead, it`s best to book a taxi in advance to avoid the wait, and have the driver meet you directly at the hotel. There will be a small additional fee for reservations made ahead of time (about €5) and for carrying luggage, usually just a couple of euros. A taxi from the airport or ferry port to Anax Resort & Spa should cost around €20 to €25. The hotel also provides complimentary arrival and departure transportation, as well as free shuttles to nearby Ornos and Agios Ioannis Beaches.
  • Waterway Transport: The New and Old Ports and several beaches are connected through an aquatic transportation system. The Sea Bus links the New Port and Old Port with routes running about every 30 minutes, all wheelchair accessible, and all €2 one-way per individual, while a Delos roundtrip costs €20. Water taxis also connect the southern beaches, with routes connecting the primary beaches at Ornos and Platis Gialos with the more distant beaches at Paraga, Paradise, Super Paradise,Agrari, and Elia. An all-day, all-beach pass costs €20.
  • Motorized vehicles: Scooters serve as the primary mode of transportation for locals, while all-terrain vehicles or ATVs hold great popularity among tourists, but for those unaccustomed to the landscape, these can prove to be highly hazardous to operate. The roads on the Greek island of Mykonos weave in zigzag patterns, travel up and down hills, squeeze through narrow passages, and contain many potholes, sometimes constituting dirt paths, with most regions outside of Mykonos Town lacking street lights. Plus there are aggressively reckless drivers to contend with, some of the world`s worst. Renting a car presents a much safer choice than a scooter or ATV, while likewise granting easy access to remote beaches across the island.
