I have outlined exactly how to get to Cala del Moro, what to do once there, what to pack and more. I have visited Mallorca multiple times over the years, but only made it to Cala del Moro on my last trip.
In this article I also share my honest opinion about whether it’s worth visiting this beach, or if it’s just social media hype.
At Cala del Moro you can expect to find a very picturesque cove with crystal clear water and soft white sand, but also loads of other tourists.

What is Cala des Moro?
Cala del Moro, also known as Cala des Moros or Calo des Moro, depending on what spelling you choose, is the most famous cove (cala in Spanish), in Mallorca.
This small bay is famous for its bright turquoise water, soft white sand, and high cliffs that surround it, forming the long and restricted entrance to the beach.
Simply put, it’s a very picturesque and beautiful beach. So beautiful, that it’s considered one of the most beautiful beaches in the Mediterranean, if not amongst the best beaches in the world.
It used to be considered one of the last paradises of the island, one of the hidden gems in Mallorca, but after going viral on social media, that’s not really the case anymore.

As you will see, Google Maps won’t be able to map the route to it, which is why I have outlined exactly the step by step instructions to reach this beautiful beach.
How to get to Calo des Moro
Getting to Calo des Moro is way easier than people online make it out to be. We read tons of blogs online beforehand, trying to understand exactly how to get there, but couldn’t find any clear instructions.
Which is why, in this article, I included step-by-step instructions with photos, so that you can easily find your way to Calo des Moro.
There are two routes to get to Calo des Moro. One is more scenic, whilst the other is slightly easier to follow, but longer and less panoramic.
Both routes start from this parking lot. This is the biggest parking area close to Cala des Moros, where we left our car and where you’re likely to do so too.
If it’s full, you can find some free parking spaces along the side of the road.
The scenic route to Calo des Moro
Let me give you a heads up now, if you’ve read any other online blogs while searching for how to get to Cala des Moro, this is the route that many people say is dangerous and highly discouraged.
Personally, I didn’t find it dangerous, as there were wooden railings along the trail that prevented you from getting too close to the cliffs.
I think these have been added recently, which is why older articles don’t mention them and say that this route is dangerous.
I also liked this route much more than the other, as the arrival at Calo des Moro is very panoramic. You will walk along the turquoise sea, as you gradually approach this picturesque cala.
So without further ado, let’s dive into this step by step route to Calo des Moro!
1. Keep the parking area on your left and walk down C. Serà de Sa Roca, then turn right at the first intersection on Carrer des Castellet.
2. After about 5 minutes, you will reach the intersection with Carrer des Llorer.
Here you will see a yellow barrier, and a small sign telling you to go right for Cala des Moro. Don’t follow this sign, instead, keep going straight down Carrer des Castellet.
3. At the end of Carrer des Castellet you will find a private house with the directions to Cala des Moro painted on the outside wall.
These are the directions for the longer and less scenic route. Ignore this and keep going to the end of the road.
4. At this corner, go down the dirt path.
5. The first section of the trail is a dirt path without many shrubs. There are no markings, but just follow along this trail for 5-10 minutes.
6. You will get to an intersection in the dirt road, with a ruined house between the two paths. Take the path on the left (the path on the right will go on the main road, and to the other route to Calo des Moro).
7. Walk for 10 minutes more, and you will start seeing the most beautiful turquoise shades of Cala des Moro on your left.
Once you see the clear sea, just keep following the path until you reach the steps leading down to Cala des Moro!
The easier (but longer) route to Cala des Moro
This second option is slightly longer, but for the most part will have you walking all along the road, so it’s easier to follow as you don’t have to walk along unmarked dirt paths.
1. Start at the parking like the first route, and go down Carrer des Castellet. When you reach the intersection with Carrer des Llorer, follow the sign and go right.
2. Go left at the second intersection, and follow along Carrer des Calo des Moro. You will see signs along the road saying “Playa” and pointing you towards the beach. It will take around 15-20 minutes to get there.
3. When you reach the end of the road you will find a long staircase. It’s a bit of a steep descent, but if you follow this staircase you will arrive at Cala S’Almunia, another beautiful cala (more on this beach later).
4. Walk left from Cala S’Almunia, keeping the sea on your right, and you will soon find a dirt path that leads onwards to Cala des Moro. It takes around 5 more minutes on this dirt path to reach it.
What to do at Cala des Moros
Cala des Moros is a beach, and as such, you can do all the usual activities you would at the beach.
You can sunbathe, lounge on the white sand, swim in the transparent waters, snorkel at the base of the cliffs and generally just have a good time.
There are no organised water sports activities, so you have to bring your own snorkels and gear.
There are no facilities at Cala des Moros so plan accordingly. When we visited there was a little shack at the top of the cliffs before walking down to the beach, where you could buy drinks and some basic snacks.
It looked very improvised, so I doubt it will be there in low season. It’s better to bring your own food and water, so that you don’t have to leave to beach when you get thirsty or hungry. There are no toilets at Cala des Moros.
Our experience at Cala del Moro beach Mallorca
We visited Cala des Moros in early September, and while there’s no denying it’s a stunning little cove, I personally found it a bit too busy to enjoy it. But let’s start at the beginning.
We got a bit lost with the contradicting signs, but eventually found our way to Cala des Moro via the scenic route. Just ignore the signs, follow the instructions I outlined above and you will have no issues finding it.
Personally I think it’s better to go to Cala des Moro via this route, as the arrival is very scenic and will get you hyped about visiting it.
We spent a few hours at Cala del Moro, and then from there went on to Cala S’Almunia, and took the longer route back to the parking.
At the time of year we were visiting Mallorca, Cala des Moros was busy, but not as packed as it could have been.
We managed to find a corner in the shade with limited space where we could put down our towels and lie down, and we spent a few hours swimming in the clear blue water and lounging on the beach.
We went there early morning, but as the hours went by, more and more people arrived, and it started getting a bit too packed, with people putting their towels right next to us or sitting on rocks hanging over our towels.
When we got tired of the crowds we set off, and walked over to Cala S’Almunia instead.
The beach at Cala S’Almunia is also very small, but there are more flat rocks surrounding the cala, so there’s more space to bask in the sun without people climbing over you.
It’s also a fun spot for diving. Adventurous swimmers can enjoy the thrill of an exhilarating jump from the sheer cliffs of Almunia Beach, straight into the crystal clear waters of Mallorca.
We then took the longer route back. It’s a bit challenging at first, as the staircase leading down to Cala S’Almunia is quite steep and long, but after that the rest of the route is along the road and easy to walk on.
Is visiting Cala del Moro worth it?
Yes and no. While there’s no doubt that Cala del Moro is a stunning little cove, with crystal clear turquoise water, fine white sand beach and picturesque rocky cliffs surrounding it.
However, it’s far from an idyllic cala. It’s no longer a hidden gem in Mallorca, and there are simply way too many people visiting it every day.
We heard that in the summer months in high season, from the end of July to end of August, people had to queue over an hour under the sun to get down to Calo des Moro!
As pretty as the beach is, it’s not worth waiting an hour under the sun to see it.
That said, if you’re visiting Mallorca in the quieter shoulder season, in spring or autumn (after all, Mallorca is one of the best European winter sun destinations), then definitely head to Calo des Moro, as you will be able to enjoy this stunning beach all to yourself.
Where to stay to visit Cala del Moro
Caló des Moro is located in the southeast corner of Mallorca. Besides Caló del Moro, this is the area of the island where you will find the most pristine and unique beaches of Mallorca.
If you want a beach vacation, I suggest staying on this side of the island of Mallorca. That said, Mallorca isn’t a very big island, and even if you were staying in Palma de Mallorca, it would only be a 45 minute drive to Cala de Moro.

What to pack to visit Calo des Moro
You’re heading to the beach, so you won’t need much besides your usual travel essentials to enjoy a great time in Calo del Moro. That said, here are some things you want to make sure you don’t forget!
Fast drying towel: I like these towels since they dry quickly and don’t take up much space in your bag. Considering you have to walk a while to get to and from Calo des Moro, these are perfect to carry with you.
Power bank: Whether it’s to find your way to Cala del Moro, or to take epic pictures of it, you don’t want your phone dying on you right when you need it!
Water & snacks: As mentioned already, there are no proper facilities at Calo des Moros, so make sure you have enough water and food with you!
Don’t bother bringing umbrellas, beach chairs or sun loungers, as there simply won’t be enough space for you to actually use them. It’s a small beach, with little space for any extras beyond just laying down your towel.
We made the mistake of carrying beach umbrellas all the way there, and then not being able to use them.
We also saw people hiking through the Mediterranean shrubs, pine trees and lush vegetation carrying inflatable flamingos or donuts and honestly, which we found a bit absurd. You’re better off leaving them at home.

While it can no longer be considered a hidden gem in Mallorca, it’s still an incredibly beautiful beach to visit. Especially if you’re visiting in low season, you can make the most of this stunning beach without the crowds.
Mallorca is one of the must-see sights on any Europe bucket list, as well as one of the most popular Mediterranean cruise ports.
Personally, I love the Canary Islands more than the Balearic Islands, as they have better weather year round, but there’s no denying the beauty of Mallorca.
In Tenerife you can go surfing,whale watching and on epic hikes. You can’t do the first two in Mallorca, but you can enjoy better beaches, delicious cuisine and tapas tours, and visiting unique historical towns.
