When is the best time to visit Mykonos?

My favorite time to visit Mykonos is from June through September when weather is hot and water warm enough to swim in. May and October offer warm weather too, but with thinner crowds and cheaper hotel rates; though some facilities may be closed then. I do not suggest visiting Mykonos from November through March. If visiting outside high season, it’s best to stay in Mykonos Town.

  • Best Time to Party in Mykonos: The Mykonos beach clubs and events with DJs operate from late June until mid-September with the peak period being late July and August. There’s great nightlife in Mykonos Town from May to early October.
  • Best Period for Pleasant Weather in Mykonos: The warmest conditions in Mykonos (and all the Greek islands) are between June and September when it’s consistently sunny, hot, and the waters are perfect for swimming. Water temperature increases throughout the summer months and is highest in August and early September. Since many people visit to enjoy the excellent Mykonos beaches (and related nightlife) it’s rather tranquil here in May and October though the weather is still very agreeable.
  • Best Period for Greek Island Hopping: There are some incredible islands ( Santorini,Naxos, and Paros are the best) just a brief ferry ride from Mykonos. Riding a ferry and exploring these nearby islands is a highlight of traveling to Greece. Santorini has a longer tourism season than the other Greek islands so you can happily visit there anytime between late April and early November. For the other islands mid-May to early October is best.
  • Best Time for Visiting Mykonos and Santorini: There are day-to-day Greek ferries from Athens to Mykonos year-round, but watercraft between Santorini and Mykonos only run in the tourist season. Direct Mykonos-Santorini ferries typically commence in early April and end in late October. In April, May, and October this will often be a smaller SeaJet ferry (that can have a bumpy ride). From June to September there will also be a larger car ferry and high speed catamaran that have a smoother feel. If you visit when there is no direct ferry between Mykonos and Santorini (usually, November to March) you’ll have to go via Athens (fly or ferry).
  • Most Affordable Timeframe for Savings in Mykonos: Accommodations are significantly less expensive during the shoulder season (April, May, October) than the peak summer months, but cultural activities are more limited as well so travelers must weigh the pros and cons. Transportation, dining, and beverage costs tend to vary little between seasons. For pleasant weather alongside low-priced lodging, late May, early June, late September, or early October provide good options. There are no guarantees, but the initial three weeks of October sometimes astonish visitors with agreeable conditions.

Mykonos Travel Seasons

  • High Season (July to early September): Warm, sunny climate with lots of people – but never too many that it’s disagreeable. Prices are at their peak. The seawater at its warmest and best for swimming. Ferries and flights run with the greatest frequency. If you’re going to Mykonos for the nightlife then this is the time to visit. For first-time visitors, weather and nightlife are often the most important factors, and the high-season months offer exactly what they’re looking forward to.
  • Shoulder Season (May and June, September and early October): During this time of year the weather is favorable, with warm and sunny conditions but not extremely hot like the peak summer months. Tourists are present but crowds are never large. Most establishments remain open in June and September, but some doors may be closed in May and October. The sea temperature may not be warm enough for swimming in May and October.
  • Low Season (late October to April): This timeframe refers to winter, bringing gray skies, cool weather, and rain. Fewer hotels and restaurants operate (but enough to accommodate travelers). Ferries and flights have very limited schedules, though there will usually be at least one ferry daily going to Athens and Syros, but not often to other islands like Santorini, Naxos, or Paros.

Mykonos Weather by Month

  • Mykonos Weather in March: The climate remains mildly cool but winter is ending and enterprises are gradually starting to reopen. Nearly half of the restaurants and lodgings will be open by the conclusion of the month.
  • Mykonos Weather in April:The climate was warming up and warm days could happen by month`s end, allowing swimming and sunbathing. Three-quarters of tourist facilities will be open by month`s close. Nightlife was still quiet but a few town bars would be open and holding some events.
  • Mykonos Weather in May: By mid-month summer seems to have arrived. All hotels and restaurants are open, the conditions are improving, the beach clubs are opening, and visitors are starting to come in significant numbers. There are plentiful nightlife options in Mykonos Town.
  • Mykonos Weather in June: Excellent weather, everything open, and nightlife is in full swing. Beach parties with DJs typically start about mid-month.
  • Meteorological conditions in Mykonos during July: Near the height of summer but still somewhat tranquil compared to August. Scorching temperatures, huge beach gatherings, and lively areas in Mykonos Town (and fun to experience).
  • Mykonos in August: The busiest month on Mykonos with the most club parties, the craziest nightlife (in town and at the beach), and beautiful weather (though it can be windier than July and September).
  • Mykonos Weather in September: Nightlife and activities calm slightly but much still going on, everything open, and great weather. The last major club party typically takes place around mid-September.
  • Mykonos Weather in October: Early October still has good beach weather and nightlife in Mykonos Town but by mid-month many hotels and restaurants start to close down. By the end of October the island is feeling very quiet.
  • Mykonos Weather in November: Almost like winter but there’s still a little action going on in Mykonos Town. With some good fortune and a late-season warm spell it’s possible to swim in early November but for the most part the shorelines are deserted.
  • Weather in Mykonos in Winter (December to February): The island is very quiet in winter. Weather is moderate according to northern European standards – warm, sunny days are not unusual – but be prepared for lots of rain, overcast skies, and chilly winds. Most businesses are closed but there’s always enough open to get by.
