The Best Family Hotels & Resorts in Koh Phangan

Koh Phangan is not Koh Samui or Phuket. Everything, including the hotels, is a little more rustic and simple – and less expensive. Don’t come here anticipating 5-star luxuries and a well-trained staff. Even the best hotels have a few rough areas.

It seems the mixed online reviews for the different hotels on Koh Phangan can be understood when considering visitors` varying expectations. Those seeking a simple, relaxing escape from busyness at home or elsewhere in Thailand appear satisfied, accepting imperfections and appreciating island highlights.

However, travelers arriving with expectations of top-notch luxury will feel let down. If you want the best then stay at the Four Seasons on Koh Samui. If you want to retreat back to how Samui was like 20 years ago then Koh Phangan is your place.

Travel tips for Koh Phangan with Youngsters

  • After booking with your hotel, contact them and inquire about speedboat connections from Koh Samui. Hotels located along the northern and northeastern coasts take more time to reach. If you`re taking a boat from Samui to Haad Rin or Thong Sala before transferring via truck to your hotel, it will involve a couple hours of transit. Requesting a speedboat that delivers you directly from Samui to your hotel could spare you some time and hassle.
  • If affordable lodging is a priority, reserving your first couple nights in advance is advisable. Generally, the most affordable options don`t accept reservations and credit cards aren`t commonly taken either, removing your ability to truly secure the room in those cases. If another guest shows up ready to pay cash for your reserved room, declining likely isn`t an option.
  • Paying for amenities like food, laundry and massages directly through higher-end lodgings will often total to 3 or 4 times more than equivalent services just down the street. Save money by finding alternatives to on-site options.
  • If you’re arriving within three days before or after the full moon festival, be sure to have lodging reserved. Same goes for the period between mid-December to mid-January.

Newer rooms adjacent the primary beach and additional pool facilitate connecting doors for families, while traditional wooden bungalows too tightly packed along the main road have dated features. Most secluded are the pool villas only steps from the sand. Featuring two bedrooms and a private dipping pool, brightly hued perimeter walls delineate their wraparound terraces yet somewhat inhibit coastal perspectives. Still, the contemporary facility presents an inviting atmosphere inside, and the central pool facing the shore remains a peaceful respite under shady foliage.
