Comprising a group of 17 heritage buildings in Charlottetown’s National Historic District, The Great George Hotel is a luxurious property catering to the refined traveler. These buildings date back to 1846 and provide a warm and elegant environment with a distinctly east-coast flair.

More than its flagship popular hotels on Great George Street, the hotel has additional properties in the general downtown vicinity.

In these locations, The Great George Hotel features classic one and two-bed suites, townhouses, condos, romantic hideaways, and more, and is perfect for anyone from solo travelers and families to honeymooners.

In regards to amenities, this hotel offers a complimentary continental breakfast, a fitness center, laundry facilities, a business center, a nationally-recognized concierge service, free WiFi (which worked flawlessly during my stay) and so much more.

I stayed in a corner deluxe suite at The Great George and absolutely loved the view of St. Dunstan’s Basilica across the street, the heavenly whirlpool tub, and the cozy fireplace.

Located across the street from the Confederation Centre of the Arts and the Charlottetown Mall in the heart of the city, The Holman Grand Hotel is one of the best upscale hotels in Charlottetown with full-service amenities.

The rooms at The Holman Grand are contemporary yet plush with spa-like bathrooms, cozy robes, and great views of the city in all directions. In particular, the property is home to a highly-rated restaurant, a spa, a truly spectacular business center, an event space, a fitness center, a concierge service, and a pool.

While you’re at the Holman Grand Hotel, you have to have a meal at the hotel’s on-site restaurant, the Redwater Rustic Grille. With the main entrance conveniently located in the hotel lobby, this dining area is elegant yet laid back with plenty of local fare on the menu.

Depending on what time of year you visit (seafood is very much seasonal) I highly recommend trying the Belle River Crab Cakes — they’re unreal!

Slaymaker & Nichols Gastro House & Inn (Circus-inspired Suites)

a building with a sign on the front of it

Prices, reviews & availability for Slaymaker & Nichols Gastro House & Inn 👇

A favorite for both gourmet food and accommodations, Slaymaker & Nichols Gastro House & Inn is a Charlottetown staple that should be on your list of must-sees whether you book a room or not.

The Inn is located on Fitzroy Street and has a storied history with circus folk, the Confederation of Canada, and partying forefathers. It’s certainly one of the most popular hotels in Charlottetown for unique tales!

Decorated with a distinctly unique circus theme, the three rooms are named after circus performers: Miss Frank Nixon (vintage glamour), General Scott (equestrian), and Mlle Caroline (track rider). Though each room is entirely unique, some of the key features include walk-out patios, queen beds, record players with jazz records, clawfoot tubs, antique hardware, and vanity tables.

Some of the other amenities at the inn include free WiFi, complimentary private parking, and vegetarian, gluten-free, and vegan breakfast options. It should also be noted that because of the pub nature of the establishment, the inn is not child-friendly.

Though you don’t need to be a guest at the inn to dine in the Slaymaker & Nichols restaurant, I do recommend making a reservation at least a day in advance (if not more).

Year after year, this spot proves to be the most popular restaurant in Charlottetown, and especially in high season, you’ll be hard-pressed to get a table without advance planning.
