What to take into account when choosing a Capri boat tour

Before we dive into an overview of the best Capri tours, I want to give you an overview of important things to take into account when it comes to choosing the perfect Capri boat tour for you.

Ultimately we all have different travel styles, budgets and priorities, so the best Capri boat trip for me might not be the best one for you. Here is what you need to think about when choosing your Capri boat tour.

Starting point:Β Where do you want your Capri boat tour to start from? Do you want to make your own way to Capri with the ferry and join a boat trip once there?

Or would you prefer to get picked up at your accommodation in Amalfi Coast and be taken to Capri? The starting point of your boat trip will obviously influence your itinerary, as well as price.

Group / boat size:Β Budget will be the main deciding factor here, but it’s important to look at the different types of boats that do boat tours in Capri.

Some group tours are cheap, but it often means you’ll be on a huge boat with loads of other people.Β If you want a gozzo boat tour with a smaller group, or even a private boat, the price tag is obviously going to be higher.

Itinerary:Β If there’s something specific you want to see in Capri, make sure it’s included in the itinerary! Not all boat tours do the same stops, as some skip the famous Blue Grotto for example, and others don’t give you free time on land.

What’s included:Β Make sure to check what’s included in every boat tour before picking one! Sometimes they’ll include drinks, snacks, or even a full lunch, and this will be reflected in the price.

Private Boat Tours for Couples

If you’re travelling as a couple and you’re looking for boat tours around Capri, look no further than this one.

It’s relatively short, lasting 2 hours, so it doesn’t do a full tour of the island, but there’s enough time to see the beautiful coastline from the sea.

You’ll get to see sights like the Faraglioni Rocks, some cool grottoes and cliffs, and go for a swim in the sparkling sea.Β For me, it’s an ideal activity to do on an independent Capri day trip.

You get the ferry there, and then from Capri’s Marina Grande, you embark on this short private tour (which means it’s just you and your partner) on a charming wooden boat to take in the island from the sea.

Afterwards, you have ample time to explore the island independently, giving you the best of both worlds. It’s what we did, and I think it made for a pretty perfect Capri day trip.

Capri Island Boat Trip with Grottoes

This is a big group boat tour, which means you’ll be sharing the boat with other people β€” ideal for a solo traveller or group of friends.

Setting sail from Capri’s Marina Grande, the tour takes in the stunning coast of Capri while the captain fills you in with the history and anecdotes from Capri’s illustrious past.

You’ll pass by the Baths of Tiberius, the Punta Carena Lighthouse, and marvel at the island’s rock formations such as the Faraglioni Rocks, the White Grotto and the Green Grotto.

An optional extra is a visit to the Blue Grotto; Capri boat tours don’t often include this and you have to pay extra for the entrance.

The sparkling blue caves are pretty special though, so I’d say it’s worth it. There’s the option to book either a 1 hour, 1.5 hour or 2 hour tour (to be agreed upon beforehand).

And as with all boat tours to Capri, don’t forget your sunhat, sunglasses and sunscreen!

Sorrento Coast & Capri Full-Day Boat Trip

This small group tour is one of the best Capri boat tours from Positano. Start from the charming town itself, and be taken by minivan or car to Sorrento.

From there you’ll pick up the boat that will whisk you across the Tyrrhenian Sea to Capri.

The boat takes you past the various grottoes, sea stacks, arches and caves along the way. You’ll also get a chance to swim and snorkel in the azure waters surrounding Capri.

Snacks are provided free of charge, as are drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic).

This Positano to Capri boat tour then allows you 3-5 hours to explore at your own pace β€” ample time to see the best bits of the island β€” before heading back to Sorrento port with complimentary limoncello in hand!

Capri Boat tour from Sorrento

This full-day boat tour in Capri has you soaking up all the best bits of this famous Italian island.

Beginning in Sorrento, you’ll set sail on the Tyrrhenian Sea, passing iconic sea stacks (including the Faraglioni Rocks) and ancient Roman ruins, the charming harbour of Marina Grande and more.

It goes around the whole island, so you’ll pass by all the grottoes and have a chance for swimming, too.

Note that this tour only passes by the Blue Grotto, so if you want to actively go into these sea caves another tour may be best.

Private Capri Boat Tour

Roman ruins and rock formations will be at your fingertips thanks to this flexible private boat tour.

Capri, Positano or Sorrento can be chosen as a starting point, depending on where you’re staying in Amalfi Coast, or simply where you want the tour to begin.

It’s a fun one and good for couples, as you get to pick your own itinerary (though it’s definitely one of the pricier options).

It’s up to you! Snacks, soft drinks and bottled water are also provided β€” as is snorkelling gear for when you stop and can’t resist a dive into the refreshing waters!

This Capri boat tour from Sorrento has you sailing the Sorrento coastline and across the sea to Capri.

Along with soft drinks, beer, and snacks in the form of seasonal fruits, the tour also includes a bottle of prosecco for your enjoyment.

It hits up all the usual spots: the Green Grotto, White Grotto, Faraglioni Rocks, and a visit to the Blue Grotto (there’s still the extra 18 EUR entrance fee to be paid on arrival).

As with many boat tours, you’ll also get the chance to explore at your leisure for a few hours before heading back to Sorrento in the afternoon.

Private Capri day trip from Amalfi

Capri boat tours from Amalfi are particularly cool as they take in the dramatic Amalfi Coast as well as Capri.

This boat tour begins in Amalfi itself and swings by Positano and Nerano to admire the views of these charming coastal towns, before then heading to Capri itself.

The first stop is the Blue Grotto (there’s an extra fee involved).

Then it’s onwards to more sea caves and rock formations (Grotta Bianca, Faraglioni Rocks, etc.), before heading back to Amalfi via Capri’s Marina Grande.

This is a private boat tour, and you can even book the boat type, from a wooden leisure boat to a 50-foot yacht!

Capri Boat Trip from Naples with Drinks

If you’re looking for Capri boat tours from Naples, look no further than this option. It’s an entire day trip, which begins with being picked up from Naples and being driven to Sorrento.

From Sorrento, you’ll board a traditional boat that’ll ply the waves to Capri.

It’s a small group tour (groups of up to 12) that sees you lapping up views of beautiful Capri as you’re expertly guided around its coast.

As well as admiring the amazing rock formations around the island, you’ll also get to swim (and snorkel), plus enjoy a few hours of free time exploring the island or just chilling out.

Then the boat takes you back to Naples β€” with the included bonus of limoncello and snacks.

It’s an ideal boat tour for a group of friends or family, as it gives you the opportunity to explore Capri as well as doing the boat tour.
