Best Airbnb in Washington: Rustic Mountain Escapes

There is no better place than Washington for an escape into the mountains. With Rainier, the Cascade Mountains, and the Olympic Mountains, you`ve got options heading essentially every way.

Here are some of the coolest Airbnb stays in Washington State that we discovered.

Tye Haus – A-Frame Cabin

a red fire hydrant in the middle of a forest

  • Location: Skykomish River
  • Bedrooms: 1
  • Bathrooms: 1
  • Sleeps: 4
  • Notable Features: Minutes away from skiing at Stevens Pass during winter, private outdoor hot tub

We actually came across this location on Instagram before stumbling on it through Airbnb, and ever since discovering this rustic cabin in the woods it has topped our list of the coolest Airbnbs in Washington State.

Its location is not near a national park or some of Washington`s best hiking trails. Instead, it`s situated along the Skykomish River, near scenic Highway 2 on the route to Stevens Pass.

If you’re seeking a distinct lodging near Stevens Pass, either to take full advantage of the finest skiing in Washington in the winter, or mountain biking in the summer, this is the Airbnb for you.

Alpine Woods Cabin with Ski Trail Access!

an old wooden cabin in a wooded area

  • Location: Winthrop
  • Bedrooms: 2
  • Bathrooms: 1
  • Sleeps: 6
  • Pet Friendly: Yes
  • Notable Features: Laundry room, fireplace, ski-in ski-out

This log cabin within the woods offers an ideal setup for skiers. It`s located in the Liberty Woodlands area and contains a private ski trail directly connecting to the larger Methow Valley Trail System, accessible right from the front entrance.

And for those who aren’t coming for a winter getaway, you’ll still be able to enjoy the serene views of the forest from this secluded cabin next to the Methow River.

High ceilings and an open floor plan in the kitchen, dining and living areas define the home`s interior. Other highlights include pine paneling, a riverstone gas fireplace and outdoor porch.

Whether coming for a brief weekend or an extended vacation (there is a separate laundry room containing a full-size washer and dryer), a wonderful time will be had resting in this beautiful rental.

Wander A Frame | Refresh | Explore | By Mt. Baker

a blue and white house with a clock on it

  • Location: Mt. Baker Highway
  • Bedrooms: 1
  • Bathrooms: 1
  • Accommodations: 6 (queen, two singles, sofa bed)
  • Notable Features: Private hot tub, french doors open to bring the outside in during the summer, wood burning stove for cozy winter nights, fully stocked kitchen

We became enamored with Mt. Baker on our initial visit, and can’t wait to return. It possesses all the natural splendor of places like Mt. Rainier, with a minuscule portion of the crowds. And when we do, we’ll almost certainly be staying in this cozy little cabin on Airbnb, which ranks highly among noteworthy Airbnbs in Washington State.

If you stay in this cabin, you’ll be approximately 45 minutes from the best hiking in Mt. Baker, Artist Point, and the stunning Picture Lake. Spend the day exploring Mt. Baker’s spectacular wilderness, and cozy up next to the fire at night with a beverage and a good book (or good conversation, I suppose).

The open design of the kitchen and living area is nice, and upstairs you’ll discover a queen bed and two single beds, so you can sleep at least four people. More if you use the sofa bed downstairs.

If you’re looking for a rustic cabin in the woods with access to some of the finest hikes in Washington State, this would be a fantastic choice.

Hansel Creek Gust Tree House – On 150 Acres

a wooden bench in the middle of a forest

  • Main location: Near Highway 97 close to Peshastin and Leavenworth
  • Bedrooms: Studio
  • Bathrooms: 1
  • Sleeps: 2
  • Notable Attributes: Exclusive wood decking and outdoor fire feature, convenient walking route to Ingalls Creek trailhead, al fresco shower area during summer months

Let`s be candid for a moment – we really enjoy treehouses. You may have realized that based on the previous three treehouses mentioned. This one sits along highway 97, near Peshastin and Leavenworth, and is within walking distance of a trailhead for one of the finest hikes in the area – Ingalls Creek.

Positioned over a creek – presumably named Hansel Creek – this cabin is small yet cozy inside. The lofted bedroom maximizes space in the living area, where a comfy couch and compact kitchenette can be found.

Outdoor showers are another thing we appreciate. And this little cabin has one, at least in the summer months. Plus a propane fire pit on the deck outside, perfect for an evening spent drinking wine and gazing at the stars.

Rivers Edge A River Front cabin with Majestic Mountain Views

a small cabin in the middle of a forest

  • Location: Ashford (Mount Rainier’s Paradise side)
  • Bedrooms: 1
  • Bathrooms: 1
  • Sleeps: 2-4 (4 is a stretch)
  • Notable Features: Riverside setting, small living quarter, propane grill

If you’re searching for a cozy cabin close to Mount Rainier, it doesn’t get much better than this small abode on the river.

It’s small, to be sure, but it has everything you’ll need for a couple of days of exploring Mount Rainier on the Paradise side. And the smallness is somewhat part of the charm here.

They claim it can sleep four people, but that will be a tight fit and is probably only suitable for families with children. There is a bed on the main level and an additional lofted bed with low ceilings (just 4 feet), so be careful not to bump your head!

There’s a fully equipped kitchen too, complete with a stove, oven and cookware, so you can prepare all your meals. In the summer, there’s also a propane barbecue outside if you’d rather cook outdoors.

It would serve admirably as a homebase for exploring Rainier National Park, and remains fairly affordable considering the location and other available listings in the vicinity.

Mount Rainier A-Frame Cabin with Hot Tub

a large wooden house with a large window

  • Location: Ashford (Near Mt. Rainier, Paradise side)
  • Bedrooms: 3
  • Bathrooms: 1
  • Sleeps: 8 (3 queens + 1 air mat)
  • Notable Features: Private hot tub, fully equipped kitchen, washer and dryer for laundry needs, wood burning stove for warmth

As I was compiling this list of the best Airbnbs in Washington, I came across an nearly endless supply of rustic-yet-modern cabins near Mt. Rainier. And in our assessment, this offering was the finest of the group.

It includes three bedrooms, making it ideal for a group of friends or family seeking to explore Mt. Rainier. The mid-century modern decor accentuates the contrast between the contemporary interior design and rustic exterior. There’s a hot tub for relaxing after days spent participating in activities in Mt. Rainier National Park, which must definitely incorporate hiking. It has a full kitchen and access to a washer and dryer, should they be required.

You’ll be directly outside the entrance to the park, near Paradise, which positions you in prime location to precede crowds and tackle one of the finest hikes in Mt. Rainier National Park – the Skyline Trail.

Contemporary Guesthouse in Leavenworth

a house in the middle of a wooded area

  • Location: Leavenworth
  • Bedrooms: 1
  • Bathrooms: 1
  • Sleeps: 2
  • Notable Attributes: Walk-in shower, private outdoor deck and patio, high ceilings, full kitchen

If you’re going to Leavenworth, a German-themed town in eastern Washington, this is one of the better Airbnb choices nearby. It’s a one bedroom cottage with an open floor plan in the living area and kitchen offering ample natural light.

During the summer, enjoy a glass of local wine on the outdoor chairs or on the deck overlooking the surrounding mountains. When winter comes, get the wood burning stove going and cozy up next to the fire with a good book.

In Lagos, we stayed at The Salty Lodge, an apartment complex with spacious living quarters that had every amenity we required for our visit, including a fully equipped kitchen.

Cozy Canyon Creek Cabin

a fire hydrant in the middle of a wooded area

  • Location: Granite Falls
  • Bedrooms: 2
  • Bathrooms: 1
  • Sleeps: 6
  • Notable Features: Wood burning stove, private hot tub, pet friendly, private deck with outdoor dining table

As I was writing, thoughts ran through my head about whether something can be called an “A-frame” if it is not symmetrical.

In any case, this cabin situated deep in the woods alongside Canyon Creek would make a beautiful stay. It`s located near Granite Falls, placing you in a prime position to experience some of the most exceptional hikes close to Seattle – Mount Pilchuck, Lake 22, and Heather Lake.

Or, if hiking long distances is not your preference, driving along the scenic Mountain Loop Highway, one of the most beautiful drives in the Pacific Northwest, offers lovely scenery.

Inside, the cabin succeeds in being both rustic and modern simultaneously. Wood-paneled walls with minimal adornments define its personality alongside comfort. There’s a hammock in the loft area, which is perfect for an afternoon respite after a morning hike.

The kitchen at Il Macchione is quite expansive, allowing for full meal preparation using all available appliances and dishes to easily serve the whole family outdoors at the dining table under open skies.

Ending the day with relaxing in the hot tub on the private deck will give you the perfect experience of paradise.

Gorgeous View From Secluded Tiny Cottage

a red brick building with a view of a forest

  • Location: Columbia River Gorge (WA side)
  • Bedrooms: 1
  • Bathrooms: 1
  • Sleeps: 2
  • Notable Features: Gorge views from patio, gas firepit, ultra secluded

My partner and I stayed at this home with spectacular river gorge views to celebrate his 30th birthday. From personal experience, it provides a lovely place to spend a weekend. It is set on a hill overlooking the Columbia River Gorge on the Washington side next to a horse pasture.

a stove top oven sitting on top of a wooden bench

We spent the early portion of the day tackling one of the top hikes located in the breathtaking Columbia River Gorge before making our way back here to invest the afternoon unwinding on the patio with a novel and a glass of hard cider, activating the gas fire pit when temperatures began to decrease. Its location makes it conveniently situated for both hiking and visiting Hood River, which is around 20 minutes away.

Though the hosts reside in the house directly up the driveway, the sole souls you`ll view when staying here are the equines in the pasture.

Secluded Hobbit House Near Chelan

a room with a table and chairs and a fire hydrant

  • Location: Columbia River Gorge (near Chelan)
  • Bedrooms: 1
  • Bathrooms: 1
  • Sleeps: 2

If you revel in the works of J.R.R. Tolkien like Matt, you`ll appreciate each meticulously crafted nuance of this literal hobbit house perched above the Columbia River Gorge near Chelan. It`s assuredly one of Washington State`s coolest Airbnbs, an accommodation not quickly forgotten.

The chessboard particularly caught my eye, as did the indoor fireplace (extremely cozy!) and the surrounding view observable from the round window in the bedroom.

Note: Access to this place may be somewhat difficult in winter weather, when snow and ice are present. You may need to hike in.

Best Airbnbs in Washington: Tranquil Coastal Retreats

With miles and miles of shoreline, both along the Pacific Ocean and the other bodies of water in the western edge of the state, there are plenty of spots for a coastal retreat to escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

Treehouse – Eagles Perch Over the Water

a large wooden cabin with a large wooden bench in the back

  • Location: Port Angeles, Olympic Peninsula
  • Bedrooms: 1
  • Bathrooms: 1.5
  • Sleeps: 3
  • Notable Features: Floor-to-ceiling windows with ocean views, shared oceanfront fire pits, private balcony overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca

If hoping to visit Hurricane Ridge in Olympic National Park, Port Angeles makes a great headquarters. And if seeking an unforgettable place to stay in Olympic National Park, this rustic treehouse cabin would be a perfect pick.

Situated on an elevated hill overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca, this location will provide ideal proximity to both Hurricane Ridge and Lake Crescent, two highly recommended places within Olympic National Park.

From the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room, you`ll have spectacular views of the water. There`s also a shared fire pit on a bluff below the treehouse where you can get closer to the water and appreciate a fireside drink under the stars.

There’s a small kitchen with an induction cooktop and microwave, along with a tea kettle and mini fridge, so you can prepare for yourself while you’re there.

Ever since profiling the premier lodging selections situated near Olympic National Park, this locale has remained on my list, and I can’t wait until we make our way back to the Olympic Peninsula to reside here.

a living room filled with furniture and a fire place

  • Location: Birch Bay (Northern Washington)
  • Bedrooms: 1
  • Bathrooms: 1.5
  • Sleeps: 4
  • Notable Features: Unobstructed water views from a private balcony, barbecue grill, outdoor fire pit

Way up in the northwestern corner of Washington, you’ll find this charming condo right on Birch Bay, which would make an excellent weekend escape from Seattle.

From the kitchen and living quarters, you`ll have views of the water, and in the summer months a private patio featuring a barbecue and fire pit allows watching the west coast`s sunsets.

the kitchen is clean and ready for us to use

The kitchen was beautifully appointed with an abundance of natural light thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the waterfront and brand new appliances including an island (#goals) in the center, where visitors would find everything needed to cook dinner for their group.

Free parking and an in-unit washer and dryer are available, which are convenient to have.

The Coho Cabin – A Beachfront Getaway

a red fire hydrant sitting in the middle of a forest

  • Location: La Conner
  • Bedrooms: Studio
  • Bathrooms: 1
  • Sleeps: 3 (sofa bed)
  • Notable Attributes: A electric fireplace adds further coziness, a full kitchen, a porch with water views, semi-private beach access

La Conner is a gorgeous little stretch of land in Skagit County on the peninsula just before you get out to Anacortes and Deception Pass. It’s home to the annual spectacle that is the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival.

The cabin we discovered while searching for the best Airbnb in Washington immediately caught our attention and was saved to our favorites list for a future trip. The interior space was beautifully designed, featuring a fully equipped kitchen including a stovetop as well as a lofted bed that created additional area to relax inside the cabin.

Outside the cabin, guests will find a covered porch ideal for enjoying a morning cup of coffee whether rain or shine, and a path descending to a semi-isolated beach.

Beach Front Cabin Miles Away From Stress

a wooden bench sitting on top of a sandy beach

  • Location: Along Strait of Juan de Fuca near Port Angeles
  • Bedrooms: 1
  • Bathrooms: 1
  • Sleeps: 5 (Queen + bunk beds)
  • Notable Features: Virtually on the water, fully equipped kitchen, stunning water views throughout

When we say the beach will be literally right outside your door, we mean it in this case. I discovered this spot while searching for lodging near Olympic National Park, and it has been on our list ever since.

From the queen sized bed (located in the “living room”) you`ll have an unblocked view overlooking the Strait of Juan de Fuca. When spots like this are spotted, we commonly assume they lack a full kitchen – maybe a kitchenette if lucky. However, this one contains a complete kitchen including a stove AND oven. There is a queen bed and bunk bed, making it suitable for either a couple or group of four.”

“Tipsy” – Tiny House in Seattle

a brick building with a window and a brick wall

  • Location: West Seattle
  • Bedrooms: Tiny House
  • Bathrooms: 1
  • Sleeps: 2

We decided one of Seattle`s best Airbnbs deserved inclusion, and chose this one as it proposes a unique stay. Located in West Seattle near California Avenue meeting Alaska Street, packed with dining, drinking and shopping spots.

The tiny home itself was expertly assembled by the hosts, Chad and Lindsay, out of reused wood materials. Fear not, Chad has architectural and general contracting experience. There`s a small kitchen with an induction stove and mini fridge. Savor any meal you cook al fresco at the picnic table in the charming little outdoor space adjacent to the tiny home.

Certainly not the most secluded Airbnb in Washington State – it’s right in the center of a residential neighborhood in West Seattle – but it merits examination for an exceptional stay in Seattle.

Coolest Airbnbs in Washington State: Serene Island Getaways

For some reason, on islands time elapses slowly. Everything suddenly seems less urgent. “Yeah, let’s walk to that coffee shop, we’re not in a rush.” Sometimes an island journey is all one needs to inspire slowing down and appreciating life`s small delights. Like the sound of rain on the roof, or the smell of the ocean. .

Here are some great places to spend a few days adjusting to a more leisurely island pace of life.

Ralstin House: A Modern Home on Guemes Island, WA

a large building with a tree in front of it

  • Location: Guemes Island (8 min ferry ride from Anacortes)
  • Bedrooms: 2
  • Bathrooms: 1
  • Sleeps: 4
  • Notable Features: Spacious full kitchen, wood burning stove, free bicycles (and helmets) available for use, pet-friendly accommodation!

Had you heard of Guemes Island before this? Me either. We had to look it up as we were scouring the internet for the best Airbnb in Washington. Regardless of our knowledge of the islands in Washington, this seems like a great place to stay for a quiet weekend away.

We particularly like the indoor/outdoor space that’s created when you open the doors, and think it would be the perfect place to spend a warm Pacific Northwest summer evening.

The kitchen is fully equipped, a wood burning stove keeps you warm during the cooler months in Washington, and a couple of bicycles are available for exploring Lummi.

Island View House on Lummi Island

a living room filled with furniture and a large window

  • Location: Lummi Island (near Bellingham)
  • Bedrooms: 2
  • Bathrooms: 2
  • Sleeps: 4
  • Notable Features: Views of water from private deck, floor to ceiling windows for a bright open floor plan, full kitchen with completely new (and cutting-edge) appliances

Firstly, it is important to acknowledge how aesthetically pleasing this Airbnb on Lummi Island appears. Lummi Island is located just off the coast near Bellingham, situated in the middle of the Puget Sound. It is a tranquil little escape that we have visited once before, and is home to one of the finest restaurants in Washington at the Willows Inn.

The kitchen at the rental is completely new, equipped with appliances we could only imagine having available to use in our own home.

The living area provides ample space for a group of four, with the expansive windows and open floor plan allowing an abundance of natural lighting inside.

Sunrise Waterfront Retreat on Lopez Island

a small wooden cabin in a wooded area

  • Location: Lopez Island
  • Bedrooms: 1
  • Bathrooms: 1
  • Sleeps: 4 (Queen + Bunk Beds in loft area)
  • Notable Features: Panoramic water sees from inside and outside the house, open air hot tub AND open air shower, plate player

Lopez Island is one of the best weekend escapes from Seattle, and this gorgeous waterfront home is a perfect place to spend your days relaxing. There’s an outdoor firepit where you can roast s`mores on those warm summer evenings, and the beach is just a short distance down the hill.

The living space and kitchen make up the main floor that has an open floor plan and windows from floor to ceiling with plenty of natural light coming in. And views of the water. Brand new appliances in the full kitchen too. You’ll never want to leave!

Olympic View Cottage by the Water

a living room filled with furniture and a large window

  • Location: Bainbridge Island
  • Bedrooms: 1
  • Bathrooms: 1
  • Sleeps: 5 (Queen + bunk beds)
  • Notable Features: Private deck with water perspectives, wood burning stove for cozy winter evenings by the fire

Bainbridge Island is just across the Puget Sound from Seattle, which makes it one of the most easily accessible Airbnb stays on this list if you’re coming from Seattle. Sometimes you just need to get away from the busy-ness of urban life. We get it – that’s basically what we did when we left our jobs to travel.

This one-bedroom cottage is just right for that. Situated on the quieter western side of Bainbridge less visited, you can wake up to views of the Olympic Mountains and Puget Sound while enjoying your morning coffee.

Then, as nightfall approaches, you can appreciate a glass of wine and delve into that book you`ve been intending to read by the wood-burning furnace, which offers about as cozy (and romantic) an atmosphere as possible.

If you possess the vitality, you can continue on to Twin Falls, which necessitates a full day excursion, but takes you deep into the Little Yoho Valley out to the Twin Falls Chalet and the waterfall of an identical name.

Cozy Bright Contemporary Cottage on Vashon

a living room filled with furniture and a kitchen

  • Location: Vashon Island
  • Bedrooms: Studio
  • Bathrooms: 1
  • Sleeps: 4 (Queen + sofa bed)

We appreciate Vashon Island (definitely wander to Dragon’s Head Cider!) and this would serve as an ideal base for exploring the island.

Vashon is simply a brief ferry ride away from Seattle (from the Fauntleroy Terminal), which implies this place is extremely easy to arrive at. It’s about five minutes away from the heart of Vashon too.

You will have this bright and airy farmhouse all to yourself, where you will discover a beautiful kitchen filled with natural light. It even has an outdoor table ready in the yard for you to enjoy dinner with an open view of nature. Choose from spots for your afternoon rest or reading like the hammock or private deck.

There you have our continually evolving list resulting from our quest to find the finest Airbnb in Washington State.
