Shannon FallsΒ

Shannon Falls is found 36 miles from Vancouver just off the Sea to Sky Highway, and it’s extremely easy to access. From the parking area, it’s a brief 350-meter walk to the highest viewing platform along a nicely maintained boardwalk. This is BC’s 3rd largest waterfall (335 meters tall), so seeing it is recommended! While summer is a great time to visit, spring brings the snow melt swiftly down over the falls which is a spectacular sight.

Winter: Skiing in Whistler Blackcomb

One of the most renowned and popular ski destinations worldwide is Whistler Blackcomb in Canada, and with good cause. There are hundreds of ski runs to choose from and an amazing après-ski scene, so even those who don`t ski must see the incredible views from these mountains. The Peak 2 Peak Gondola that crosses between Whistler and Blackcomb peaks is particularly astounding. The perspectives are unforgettable from this cable car crossing the two mountains. It`s an expensive weekend getaway, but every cent is worth it.

Spring / Summer: Hiking or Mountain Biking

You’ll never run short of hiking and mountain biking trails in Whistler. If you’re in search of a respectable hike, consider the Skywalk Trail, which is a true valley to alpine experience (1000 meters of elevation gain) that will occupy your whole day, but the views are incredible.

Drink Craft Beer

You’re just a couple of minutes’ walk from Mission San Francisco de Asis and Mission Dolores Park, and on 16th street there are Asian, Mediterranean and European eateries such as The Monk’s Kettle, which is an excellent spot for beer fans.

SUMMIT LODGE BOUTIQUE HOTEL

An appealing option merely 10 minutes from the means of transportation up the mountain, the Summit Lodge features highly fashionable fully-furnished suites that all include small kitchen areas so you can cook for yourself and save some money. There are a couple of on-site dining establishments, bars, and cafΓ©s, and you’ll have access to the pool and hot tub.

WHISTLER CASCADE LODGE

This exceptionally centrally located gem serves as a perfect base for a weekend in Whistler. Whistler Cascade Lodge sits a mere 5 minute walk (if even that long) to Whistler Village, brimming with bars, restaurants and the means to access both Blackcomb and Whistler mountains via gondola.

The check-in and check-out process is incredibly straightforward, and the spa/pool will be welcome amenities after a full day of activities.

Important note: Accommodation in Whistler can be pricey! After significant research to find the best value accommodation, I was pleased to discover a place so near the village – it means you don’t need to drive once in Whistler, always a plus.

BRIGHT & AIRY PENTHOUSE IN WHISTLER VILLAGE

If you’re more interested in staying in Airbnbs when you travel, check out this STUNNING 1 bedroom penthouse in Whistler Village. Bright, airy, and in a tranquil part of the Village, where you’ll be near the action, but far enough removed to enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep.

I passed by this understated coffee shop and may have overlooked it were it not for the line outside the entrance. It`s clear these individuals are serious about coffee based on the delicious taste. They offer homemade cashew milk too, an added bonus!

Where to Stay in Seattle

I have an extensive guide on the top places to lodge in Seattle, so for more comprehensive recommendations, ensure to peruse that.

Here are a couple of recommendations.

Seattle has numerous unique boutique hotels – browse my guide to the coolest hotels in Seattle to discover an ideal, stylish place to stay for your weekend trip from Vancouver.

It would be beneficial to consider the State Hotel, which provides a stylish boutique-style lodging literally steps from Pike Place Market in downtown Seattle`s core, or the Moxy Hotel, which offers a hip environment well-suited for using as a base for exploring the city during a weekend visit to Seattle.

BELLTOWN AIRBNB

I greatly admire Timbuk2 backpacks and messenger bags for their direct tech-focused design and tough construction (plus they’re situated in SF!), and Alysha favors her Parker Clay backpack (they also offer totes, if that’s your preference).

Things to Do in Tofino

Surf Surf Surf

No matter the season, Tofino represents surfing nirvana. Endless miles of beaches welcome rolling waves. Rent a full-body wetsuit and board from a nearby surf shop then head to North Chesterman beach. You`ll feel the allure of escaping urban life, although it remains the most distant from Vancouver so it may be worth designating it as a 3 day weekend trip.

Food & Drinks: Tacofino not Celiac-safe

The iconic brightly colored food truck sits in an urban lot with long tables, serving fresh fish tacos that are remarkably good.

Hike Through Forests to Beaches & Coves

The pathways in Tofino are spectacular. From what I experienced, they are all relatively brief and simple, but the pathways lead you through woodlands where you’ll discover some of the oldest trees documented in Canada. I recommend Big Tree Trail which has cedar trees over 1,000 years old. There’s nothing like it.

Yoga

Tofino serves as a hub for health and wellness activities. Attendees can catch a yoga class on the beach with Tofino Yoga. They even provide stand up paddle boarding yoga – an activity worth experiencing firsthand.

WILDPOD: LUXURIOUS WATERFRONT GLAMPING

Wildpod is the ultimate outdoor camping experience.

There are only 6 dome-shaped buildings situated directly on the edge of the water in downtown Tofino near all the entertainment venues, shops, and galleries. If fortunate enough, one might see a whale from their sleeping area – if that does not represent magic, I do not know what does.

You can find more of the best places to lodge in Tofino in my guide to where to stay in Tofino.
