One can rent surfing gear or relax on a hammock and watch others practice their abilities. Despite its more remote location, Playa Esmeralda has a few beach bars as well as lifeguards.
Overall, I consider this to be one of the best beaches in Jandía, and it offers the ideal balance of tranquility and comfort.
3. Sotavento Beach, a beautiful Costa Calma beach with dunes

Hiking is a major highlight here, and two days and two nights allows time for a couple excellent hikes.
Unlike some of the other beaches of Costa Calma, Matas Blancas is separated from the bustle and activity of the town and visitor centers. It`s just a 10-minute drive away, but it feels like a remote island where you can disconnect and enjoy a serene afternoon.
Matas Blancas lacks any sort of amenities, so be sure to bring everything needed. While there are no showers or changing facilities, a few surf schools offer equipment rental or lessons. Dan joined this beginner windsurfing course and had a wonderful time! It was tailored specifically for novices, so after learning some basic techniques, he could practice on the waves.
5. Playa de La Jaqueta, a peaceful beach in Costa Calma, Fuerteventura
Another beach in Costa Calma, Fuerteventura that should be visited is Playa de La Jaqueta. This is one of Costa Calma`s best kept secrets, with crystal clear waters, soft sand, and scenic surroundings.
While the beach is 8.8 miles from town center, if one has a vehicle, it`s simply a 10-minute drive. There exists a parking lot where you can leave the car, though there aren`t any restaurants or services here, so pack what you`ll need. That said, it is one of the few areas where camping is permitted in Fuerteventura.
As for the beach itself, it’s one of the more rugged beaches of Costa Calma, with a natural landscape and some craggy areas. However, you can still swim safely here if you avoid those rocky zones. While you’re here, you should also check out the Mirador del Viento at the end of the beach. From this viewpoint, you’ll have panoramic views of the entire Costa Calma shoreline, so it’s quite an experience.
6. La Lajita Beach, a volcanic sand beach in Costa Calma
La Lajita Beach is a charming beach in Costa Calma where you can discover some local culture. It’s right in front of the town of La Lajita, a small fishing village that still preserves its traditional customs.

La Lajita Beach is about a 15-minute drive from Costa Calma, so just follow the FV-2 road until you see the signs.

Playa Laja del Corral is considered one of the top beaches in Costa Calma for families, so I suggest it if you’re traveling with kids. This lovely cove has gentle, calm waters making it perfect for a family day at the shore. Additionally, the region doesn’t see large crowds, giving it a serene atmosphere.
The coastline contains tall cliffs on both ends and dark volcanic sand, producing a unique and spectacular scene. This coastal location is considered one of the calmest for wind in Costa Calma, so relaxing activities such as sunbathing and swimming are most popular here. Kayaking is also possible since the waters are so still.
Despite the absence of dining or service facilities at this Costa Calma Beach, the settlement of Tarajalejo is within a short distance of less than 2 miles away. Even without car transportation, one can walk from the shoreline to Tarajalejo, as was done during our journey. The stroll was pleasurable, and later we explored the shops and cafes situated in the town.
8. Playa Agustín Millares, a Costa Calma beach near the town center
Playa Agustín Millares is a smaller section of beach in Costa Calma where the winds and surf are reduced, sheltered from strong waves. It’s at the northern end of Costa Calma Beach, providing a pleasant locale to spend time by the ocean as a couple or with family.
The best parts of this beach include the golden sands and the privileged views of the neighboring shoreline. Also, this spot is convenient for those searching for a more urban environment since there is a free parking area as well as several eateries and Costa Calma beach bars.
Additionally, a scenic walking path connects Playa Agustín Millares to Matas Blancas Beach, allowing individuals to take a pleasant nature stroll. Along the route, one will pass the Mirador Atlántico, a renowned viewpoint offering panoramic perspectives of the landscape.

In addition, toward the southern end of the beach, you`ll find the vantage point called Punta Padrón. It offers magnificent 360° views, particularly during sunset, so I suggest arriving here just before dusk. Given its small size, I recommend visiting here during low tide, so you have enough space to spread out a towel and stroll on the sand. An additional benefit of coming at low tide is that you can see the shallow lagoons that form along the shoreline. These pools are perfect for the little ones to splash around in, so you can let the young children swim without any concerns.
Additionally, this particular Costa Calma beach has showers, restrooms, umbrella rentals, and other amenities. Plus, it’s just 1.2 miles from town, so you can get here by vehicle or on foot.
