To safeguard this natural area’s flora and wildlife, only a specific number of visitors are permitted entry each day. As such, booking this guided hike may be preferable, as it comes with the necessary pass already included.

Watching whales and dolphins in their natural habitat is one of my favorite activities to do in Tenerife. Each sighting leaves me in awe, and I`m certain you`ll find this experience truly remarkable.

The initial time we pursued whale-watching in this place, we participated in this excursion, which I sincerely endorse. The tour departs from Puerto Colón, and you’ll voyage in a catamaran to the regions with the highest densities of cetaceans. What makes this place so unique is its diverse ecology, cultural significance, and variety of landscapes, which incorporate cliffs, valleys, and laurel forests. Here, you can look for the endangered laurel pigeon and enjoy the pristine natural surroundings that have so far been protected from human interference.

One of the top spots in Teno Rural Park is the Punta del Teno, a renowned lighthouse where you can obtain unparalleled perspectives of the Los Gigantes Cliffs. It’s an extraordinary viewpoint, especially at dusk, so if possible, plan your visit so you arrive just before nightfall.

Also, if you have additional time and wish to see more, consider taking a boat excursion or a kayaking tour to explore the Punta de Teno and the Los Gigantes Cliffs from an alternate perspective. There is also this walking tour, which traverses the park and concludes at the lighthouse.

El Médano is considered one of the most scenic places in Tenerife as well as an ideal spot to engage in watersports. It’s common to see people surfing, kitesurfing, and windsurfing, thanks to the great year-round conditions at El Médano Beach.

Even if you don’t surf, you’ll appreciate the rustic beauty of El Médano’s other beaches. One of the better ones is La Tejita Beach, which is part of the Montaña Roja Natural Reserve. You can get lovely views of the Montaña Roja crater, although I also suggest going into the nature reserve to see the mountain’s red volcanic landscape and its unique flora and fauna. This natural area is a haven for birdwatching, so keep an eye out for rare species like the Kentish plover.

There are other interesting things to do in El Médano, too, such as viewing the Cave of Santo Hermano Pedro. Now designated a Historic Site and Asset of Cultural Significance, local legend has it that the cave served as a resting place for Pedro de San José Betancur, known as Santo Hermano Pedro, during his youth while shepherding his family’s flock.

There are other locations in Tenerife where you can participate in surfing, so if this is one of your hobbies, you’re in luck. People surf and kitesurf along the island’s coast year-round, so no matter where in Tenerife you are, there is a nearby beach where you can ride the waves.

Surfing is one of the top outdoor pursuits on Tenerife not only due to the ideal wave conditions but also because there are different zones suitable for the activity. Whether you prefer sandy coasts or rocky reef areas, you`ll find options here. Just be aware that stronger surf can be found northwards, while southern areas offer calmer waters.

Contingent on the location, scuba diving permits viewing nearly 100 feet below the surface, so it is an incredible encounter.

The best approach was starting from Vilaflor town and hiking the moderately difficult round trip route of around 8 miles, taking approximately 4 hours to complete while pausing frequently to admire the unusual rock formations and reddish hues.

To make the most of your time to fully explore Vilaflor and its unique natural surroundings, I suggest lodging at one of the nearby rural hotels.
