Venice with Kids – Tips & Recommendations

  • For families, the finest districts in Venice to consider are Castello and Giudecca. Both locations are calmer than the more central areas while still being easily accessible to Venice`s breathtaking sights. Castello surrounds the Arsenale di Venezia (a 12th century Byzantine shipyard) and includes a huge public garden at its southeast end, several important churches, and is within walking range of most of Venice`s attractions. Giudecca sits on the south side of the Venetian Lagoon, just a brief vaporetto ride to San Marco or Dorsoduro. This laidback neighborhood provides lovely views of the city from its waterfront trattorie, artist studios, art-filled churches, and rich history.
  • This Family-friendly self-guided tour of Venice`s landmarks and waterways is a wonderful, interactive walking trip with stories, challenges, and prizes to maintain little ones engaged and learning.
  • Smoking is still allowed in some hotels in Venice, though usually confined to a particular floor or area in the hotel. Guests who are bothered by smoke or those traveling with children should request a room without smoking or stay at a non-smoking hotel to avoid secondhand smoke.
