Ok, let’s do a deep dive into the best areas and neighborhoods in Evergreen, CO:Β

4 Best Neighborhoods & Areas to Stay in Evergreen

I think of Evergreen as having two regions. There’s the historic downtown area on Highway 74, which has lots of shops and restaurants. It’s within walking distance of Evergreen Lake, and if you plan to visit to escape city life, this is where you’ll want to spend your time. You’ll find adorable cabins like the Colorado Bear Creek Cabins and cute inns in this area.Β

There’s also what I consider the business district, off of I-70 at the Evergreen Parkway exit. This is where you’ll find a Walmart and several other grocery stores. You’ll also find restaurant chains, like Starbucks and McDonald’s, along with the only chain hotel in Evergreen, the Comfort Suites Golden West.

Tips for Staying in Evergreen, CO

a forest filled with lots of trees and a truck

You’ll Want A Car

Part of Evergreen’s charm is that it feels secluded in the mountains while being fairly close to downtown Denver. But it’s not close enough to easily get back and forth without a car. You’ll want your own wheels to get from Denver to Evergreen, and if you want to do any hiking, mountain biking, or exploring of nearby towns, you’ll want a vehicle.

If you’re renting a car for your visit, try Discover Cars. They compare prices on top rental companies to find you the best deal for your trip!

Stay Hydrated

Evergreen sits at 7,165 feet above sea level. The dry climate and thin air mean you’ll want to drink plenty of water while you’re here! It’s also likely you’ll be doing a lot of exercising – hiking or paddleboarding or enjoying other outdoor activities. Get a good-sized water bottle and carry it around with you everywhere!

πŸ‘‰ Pro tip: If you could use a new water bottle, check out the Grayl Geopress, a go-to recommendation on Travel Lemming!

Get Out Early

During summer, it can get busy on the lake and on popular hiking trails, but you’re less likely to encounter crowds early in the morning. This not only makes activities a little more enjoyable, but it ensures you can find a parking spot at the trailhead or at the lake. This tip actually holds true for a lot of popular Colorado spots!

Bring Layers

A beautiful summer day can quickly turn chilly in the mountains! On the opposite end, a cold winter day can warm up quickly if the sun comes out. Bring plenty of layers if you’re planning to be out hiking or spending lots of time outdoors. Also, be sure to check Abigail’s Colorado packing list of things you should bring on a trip to Colorado!
