1. Polytimi Pottery

Unique and distinctive manually crafted ceramic items for holding candles, dishes, and decorations are sold here. Signature pieces are the beautiful perforated lamps, but other works incorporating elegant forms and innovative glazing techniques are equally tempting. Visitors can watch the artist working in her on-site studio located just behind the register.

2. Agnythes Hand-Woven Textiles

Head weaver Maria Gonidou has lived as a Nafplio resident for over 20 years, and has exhibited her hand-woven shawls, scarves, and neckties throughout Europe. Most days, you can find her working away at her in-shop loom, creating beautiful new pieces from natural materials like wool, silk, linen, and cotton. She’s happy to chat with you about her craft, as well as take custom-commissioned orders for larger pieces like tablecloths and blankets.

3. Glykos Pierasmos

With a name aptly translating to “sweet temptations,” this excellent neighborhood owned, family run bakery is the best spot in Nafplio to satisfy your sweet tooth. Stop in for fantastic pastries, cakes, cookies, and local traditions like marzipan and loukoumia. While there, be sure to pick up some of their delicious homemade preserves to take home.

4. Dim.Arg Art

The self-educated creator and local of Nafplio Dimitrios Argyropoulos produces and markets beautiful Byzantine-inspired spiritual symbolic artwork in both paint and mosaic mediums. In addition to his corner workshop shop on Agios Georgios Square, where visitors can watch the artist working, Dimitrios’ art can be found in chapels throughout the Peloponnese.

5. To Kompologaki T’Anapliou

Of all traditional objects, Nafplio is most recognized for κομπόλοι, Greek worry beads made from natural raw materials like timber, amber, bone, and precious minerals. Inexpensive ones fill the gift shops across Old Town, but the selection is top-notch here. The friendly shop keeper is pleased to assist you in selecting just the perfect one, or custom-crafting one for you from scratch. Since 1989, this store has offered a beautiful and well-sorted selection of fashion adornments, potteries, and ornamental items handcrafted by local experts – all made from high-quality natural materials like silver, gold, wood, clay, glass, and stone. Knowledgeable staff are on hand and happy to give you details about the artists and their work.

7. Nectar & Ambrosia

Exquisite top-quality honey from all varieties are available for purchase in this modern and well-designed shop near Nafplio Harbor. All goods originate from the owners’ family apiary, with a history extending over 200 generations. Fan favorites flavors encompass thyme, chestnut, heather, and spruce-vanilla; stop inside for a sampling to see which appeals most, and carry some home.

8. Karonis Wines

Excellent wine shop providing a wide range of Greek and international wines, as well as ouzo, tsipouro, whiskey, and other spirits. Call or email ahead and book a sampling ([email protected]). The shop proprietor, Dimitris Karonis, comes from a long and distinguished line of distillers – you can also visit their family distillery just a five-minute drive from Old Town.

10. Nafplia Bookstore

This charming little bookstore maintains a collection mostly in Greek but also keeps a small assortment of carefully curated English and other language titles. Both fiction and non-fiction works can be found here such as travel guides and children’s books. The staff is exceptionally friendly and helpful in providing assistance.
