Once in Fajardo, take a Puerto Rico boat journey to offshore islands like Icacos.

You can also find boat trips during the day to Culebra and Vieques if you don’t want to spend a few days at these offshore municipalities. The boat trips to Culebralast a single day, allowing visitors to experience the islands without an overnight stay. Similarly, day trips are available via boat to Vieques for those seeking a brief offshore excursion.

Find the ideal trip departing from Fajardo’s multiple marinas, including snorkeling trips and scuba diving tours to some of the most famous places for diving in Puerto Rico.

Escape to Vieques and Culebra

Negotiate the Fee

Travellers using carros públicos to travel from San Juan to Fajardo should prepare for a true local experience that demands patience, basic Spanish skills and bargaining competence.

  • Best York Hotels for Gourmands: Most of these hotels are within a 15-minute walk of the historic centre, where you can explore York’s thriving cuisine scene. However, No 1 by GuestHouse has an Ivy Brasserie on-site, Judge’s Lodging is just behind the famous Betty’s Tea Rooms, and Dean Court is within a 3-minute walk of York’s finest restaurants.

The fee will depend on how many passengers are on the bus and how skilled you are at negotiation.

The more occupied the transport, the cheaper your journey will be. Regardless, you shouldn’t be paying anything over $60 so be sure to negotiate if it’s more and be prepared to pay in cash.

Drivers from Carolina will try to persuade you that the route to Fajardo is no longer operational so you make special (and more expensive) arrangements with them.

Even if you don’t see the van at the terminal, know that the route exists and that you might have missed it.

👉 Local Tip: If you miss the van to Fajardo, depending on the hour of the day, you may wait for the next trip (which can take hours) or negotiate a trip with another driver.
