Hotel Mio Vallarta

A modern adults-only hotel, with a fantastic rooftop pool, and comfortable rooms with private balconies.

. With rates starting at under $100 per night, it’s one of our top Puerto Vallarta hotels for couples looking for a taste of luxury on a budget!

Of all the Puerto Vallarta hotels my girlfriend Clara and I have stayed at, the Hotel Mio Vallarta is the property we are most likely to return to.

Hotel Mio Vallarta really hits the sweet spot between comfort and price. The rooms are modern, nicely furnished (including nice touches for remote workers like desks and office chairs), and offer private balconies. The hotel is just a few minutes walking distance to the beach and features a really fantastic included breakfast. 

By far the best thing about this Puerto Vallarta hotel, however, is the large and absolutely stunning rooftop pool and jacuzzi hot tub. We spent half our stay just chilling out on the rooftop, ordering margaritas from the bar, and enjoying the incredible views over Banderas Bay.

Hyatt Ziva

A well-rounded all-inclusive with a gorgeous beach, delicious food, friendly service, affordable rates, and an unbelievable Presidential Suite.

The Hyatt Ziva is located on a private beach 10 minutes south of Puerto Vallarta’s Zona Romantica. This gorgeous resort ticks every box: a beautiful stretch of sand, multiple pools for adults and children, several delicious on site restaurants, friendly service, comfortable rooms, and a relatively manageable average nightly rate.

If you really want to splash out on the single best hotel room I’ve seen in Puerto Vallarta, I’d highly recommend checking out the luxurious two-story Presidential Suite. Perched on a high floor looking the hotel, it features a private pool, living room, study, and jacuzzi bathroom. With rates starting at $1,500 per night, it’s actually a steal considering how luxurious it is! 

But even if that sounds a bit out of your budget, all of the room types I saw at the Hyatt Ziva were fantastic. And with relatively affordable rates, it’s the best value for money all inclusive in Puerto Vallarta.

Casa Kimberly

The former home of Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton, Casa Kimberly is the most famous luxury hotel in Puerto Vallarta.

Want to feel like a celebrity on your stay in Puerto Vallarta? Then you might try to book one of the 9 rooms at the exclusive Casa Kimberly, one of the most unique hotels not just in Puerto Vallarta, but in all of Mexico.

The Westin Resort & Spa, Puerto Vallarta

A top notch luxury beach resort at half the cost, sporting the best pool in Puerto Vallarta and nightly fireworks.

With a group that wants to stay in a Puerto Vallarta resort but is put off by those expensive all inclusive packages? The Westin Resort & Spa might be the perfect place to stay in Puerto Vallarta for you.

I like the a la carte style of The Westin. You pay for what you consume, and the prices are actually reasonable (I paid $9 for my beachside burrito and beer combo). And the property itself is among the best resorts in Puerto Vallarta.

The Westin’s enormous pools are the best feature of this hotel. The Westin also has a decent strip of sand with loungers if you prefer its private beach.

The Westin offers all the amenities typical of a luxury resort: a huge fitness center, tennis courts, a basketball court, a spa, an outdoor pool just for kids, beachside massage service, several on site restaurants (including one on the beach), onsite covid testing, hot tubs, room service, a tour desk, a nearby golf course, and several onsite cafes and stores. 

The best part about this Puerto Vallarta hotel? It’s set up so that virtually every guest room has a fantastic view from its private balcony over the pool, the Pacific Ocean, and the Sierra Madre mountains. Oh, and at night The Westin Puerto Vallarta puts on a fireworks show over the beach that’s not to be missed!

Vallarta Shores

It’s like having your own private beachside residence (at a manageable price).

I loved falling asleep to the sound of the ocean waves at the fantastic Vallarta Shores.

Each room at Vallarta Shores is really more like an apartment, with a full kitchen (including utensils, cookware, and everything you need to cook), a patio or balcony facing the beach, and a large living room. 

If you can snag one of the luxury suites (they book up fast), you’ll even get a private plunge pool with vistas over Playa de los Muertos and the Pacific Ocean. The infinity pool at the Penthouse suites, meanwhile, istruly worthy of a celebrity.

Vallarta Shores has a pool and jacuzzi right on the beach, plus beach loungers that were never even close to being full during my stay in the middle of high season (probably because everyone was at their private pools).

With a location just steps from the main LGBT bars and clubs, but in a quiet cove at the end of the Romantic Zone, which is my pick for the best area to stay in Puerto Vallarta. Overall, Vallarta Shores is my pick for the best hotel in Puerto Vallarta for couples of all orientations looking for a romantic getaway.

Patio Azul Hotelito Boutique

An adults-only design hotel in Conchas Chinas, with epic views and picture-perfect rooms.

If you like well-designed art hotels and aren’t traveling with children, I’d highly recommend checking out the stunning Patio Azul Hotelito Boutique.

Patio Azul Hotelito Boutique is located halfway up the hill in Conchas Chinas, giving this hotel sweeping vistas over Banderas Bay from its guest rooms and three wedding-cake-layered patios.

The hotel has a pool, bar, and gorgeous restaurant on the main level. Below you’ll find loungers and a plunge pool. And on the top level, the hotel sports a large jacuzzi where you sip cocktails and soak in the sunset. 

Each of the 18 luxury suites has a unique themed design (the inspiration of a Guadalajara artist). You’ll be treated to fantastic ocean views, comfortable beds, and thoughtful touches of luxury like plush bathrobes. I adored my stay here, and highly recommend this hotel for couples, LGBTQ travelers, or adults looking for a serene and luxurious retreat.

Hilton Vallarta Riviera All-Inclusive Resort

A modern resort with comfortable rooms, a gorgeous beach, and excellent dining options.

There are many things that I loved about the Hilton Vallarta Riviera All-Inclusive Resort, but one that really stood out to me is just how comfortable the rooms are. From the mattresses to the plush chairs on my balcony overlooking the beach, every aspect of the rooms is tailored for comfort and relaxation.

The rest of the property is comfortable too, with several beachside pools, a roof terrace with jacuzzis and spectacular views, a spa, and several excellent restaurants serving everything from sushi to Mexican fare. 

The Hilton Vallarta Riviera All-Inclusive is located on a semi-secluded stretch of sand about 10 minutes south of Zona Romantica by taxi. The beach is one of the best I’ve seen for swimming, because the hotel has rock barriers that break the usually strong Pacific Ocean waves, creating a nice little ocean swimming pool. 

Overall, the Hilton is a great choice for families, couples, or groups looking for a reliably comfortable all-inclusive resort in Puerto Vallarta.

Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa

An enormous infinity pool is the star attraction of this huge (and hugely popular) resort.

The Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa is one of the most popular hotels in Puerto Vallarta thanks in large part to its expansive infinity pool and prime location just a block from the Puerto Vallarta Marina.

Clara and I really enjoyed the swim up pool bar, where you can grab a drink while looking out over the ocean. The hotel has a very pretty beach, but be careful because there are crocodiles. For this reason, I did my swimming in the pool!

This popular Puerto Vallarta resort also offers a spa, multiple restaurants (including beachside dining, sushi, and a sports bar), a spa, a basketball court, a kids’ play area, kayaks, and terraces in most suites.

While I admit that I personally prefer the rooms in the Westin, which is just down the beach, my suite at the Marriott was perfectly clean and comfortable. I would certainly stay here again.

Overall, the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort is a solid choice for families, large groups, weddings, conventions, or similar gatherings.

Sunset Plaza Beach Resort Puerto Vallarta

The best located all-inclusive resort in Puerto also has the best food (and one obvious drawback).

Clara and I absolutely loved our stay at the Sunset Plaza Beach Resort Puerto Vallarta.

The Sunset Plaza Beach Resort is the best-located resort in Puerto Vallarta, right in the middle of the city but on a lesser-trafficked stretch of beach. The meals and drinks were also by far the best of any all-inclusive we have stayed at, and the staff the most friendly. It’s an incredibly well-managed property. 

In the future, we might even name it our overall best all inclusive resort in Puerto Vallarta. The only reason we can’t now is the hotel is undergoing a major expansion project. The hotel does its best by limiting construction to reasonable hours, but the noise is unavoidable. 

We honestly didn’t mind. The pools, jacuzzis, and restaurants are all finished. So with half the rooms unfinished, it was not crowded at all. We just popped in our noise-canceling headphones, chilled out by the pool, and enjoyed the delicious food and drinks. We think it’s a fair deal overall, especially considering the discounted nightly rates they offer.

Holiday Inn & Suites – Puerto Vallarta Marina & Golf

An affordable clean new property near the Marina with spacious rooms and a pool. 

If you don’t mind a 20 minute walk to the beach, . I really enjoyed my stay in the Holiday Inn & Suites, located opposite the Marina Vallarta Golf Club, and I’m not alone – this hotel has some of the best guest reviews too.

For the money, I think these are the best guest rooms you’ll find on a budget. They are super clean and well designed. Many offer a private terrace with views over the golf course, and all have incredibly comfortable beds, large showers, and lots of space.

The Holiday Inn has a large deck with a pool and hot tub, a fitness center, a spa, free parking, fast free Wi-Fi, and room service.

If you have a flight out the next morning, the Holiday Inn is also one of the closest hotels to the Puerto Vallarta airport.

The Paramar Beachfront Boutique

Couples will love this fantastically well-run boutique’s central location & rooftop pool.

This Puerto Vallarta boutique hotel is perfect for mature couples or anyone who wants to enjoy a relaxing beachside retreat without the noise. The Paramar Beachfront Boutique features a fantastic rooftop with views over Banderas Bay.

The pool has a small bar, comfortable loungers, and an upper level terrace. Guests will also have access to free beach towels, and this boutique hotel even offers chairs you can bring to the beach. 

Many of the guest rooms offer private terraces overlooking the beach, which is just perfect for soaking in those classic Puerto Vallarta sunsets. Rooms also offer kitchenettes, perfect for cooking small meals (there is a supermarket one block away). The beds are comfortable, and the large showers offer sit down space convenient for mature guests.

Of all the popular hotels in Puerto Vallarta, the Paramar might just have the best location too. The Paramar is just a short walk from the Malecon, but is set back so you won’t hear the noise from the bars and clubs. Overall, the Paramar is the perfect Puerto Vallarta boutique hotel for a relaxing romantic getaway.

Mondavi Wellness Resort & Spa

Affordable suites offering friendly service and the highest views in Puerto Vallarta.

Mondavi might well be the best-kept secret in Puerto Vallarta. It’s a small boutique hotel perched all the way up the mountainside in the exclusive Conchas Chinas neighborhood. That does mean it takes an Uber (or a long hike) to get there, but your reward is some of the best ocean views in Puerto Vallarta.

My favorite part is the rooftop pool and hot tub, which was somehow always empty during my stay despite the absolutely epic sunset views.

The suites are very solid too. I stayed in one of the smallest studios, but it was still enormous and had an awesome terrace with yet more fantastic views.

Mondavi also offers larger apartment-style suites, which makes it one of my favorite Puerto Vallarta hotels for longer stays, families, or anyone looking for their own private retreat on the mountainside. 

With an average nightly price that starts at as little as $60 USD for the studios, this hidden gem is an absolute steal and definitely one of the best hotels in Puerto Vallarta!

Fiesta Inn Puerto Vallarta La Isla

A modern clean and affordable option with a nice pool, just a 3 minute walk to the beach.

Fiesta Inn is a well-known Mexican hotel chain that offers a similar product to what Americans expect to find at a Holiday Inn. This property is located in the La Isla shopping center in Puerto Vallarta’s North Hotel Zone.

Fiesta Inn is not a resort, but you’ll have a very nice pool and will be just a very short walk from a pristine beach with lots of space on the sand (and a couple of beach bars). 

I recently stayed in this Puerto Vallarta hotel for a couple of nights and quite enjoyed it. The rooms are simple, but clean, modern, and offer comfortable beds and fast free Wifi. The breakfast buffet is expansive, the small fitness center decent, and the staffs are very attentive and friendly.

While there are fancier hotels in Puerto Vallarta for sure, with average nightly rates starting at just $50, the Fiesta Inn Puerto Vallarta is the best of the budget options. Overall, the Fiesta Inna Puerto Vallarta La Isla is a great choice for budget-minded travelers who just want a clean place near the beach.

Garza Blanca Preserve Resort & Spa

A luxurious all-inclusive featuring apartment-style suites overlooking one of the most exclusive white sand beaches in Puerto Vallarta.

The Garza Blanca Preserve Resort & Spa is definitely one of the most famous hotels in Puerto Vallarta (celebrities have been known to stay here).

Garza Blanca is located south of Puerto Vallarta, and the resort features one of the best and most exclusive white sand beaches in the area. It also sports 3 heated swimming pools, several gourmet restaurants, a highly-rated spa, an outdoor tennis court, and a gym with views overlooking the ocean. 

For families looking for a one-stop luxury beach retreat, the Garza Blanca Preserve Resort & Spa is one of the more high-end all inclusive resorts in Puerto Vallarta. Grand Park Royal Puerto Vallarta

An affordable and family-friendly all-inclusive with a kids center, & rooms overlooking the beach.

For families on a budget, an all-inclusive resort in Puerto Vallarta can be one of the easiest ways to book a relaxing vacation. The problem is that Puerto Vallarta all-inclusive resorts can get expensive quickly.

The Grand Park Royal is the most affordable all-inclusive resort in Puerto Vallarta, but it manages to do so without sacrificing quality where it matters.

The hotel overlooks a gorgeous private beach just north of Mismaloya. All of the rooms feature terraces perched right over the shoreline, which means you can fall asleep to the sounds of the ocean waves.

The Grand Park Royal features several pools (including one a water playground just for the kids), a fitness center, 3 restaurants (Italian, Mexican, and Seafood), a buffet, room service, a gelato cafe, and plenty of included alcoholic beverages for the adults.

This luxurious adults-only all-inclusive, located in a rainforest, is the only 5 diamond rated resort in Puerto Vallarta.

If money is no object, and you’re just looking for the most exclusive and luxurious hotel in Puerto Vallarta, then check out the elegant Hotel Mousai.

Hotel Mousai Puerto Vallarta is located on a hilltop overlooking Banderas Bay, in the Garza Blanca Preserve south of Puerto Vallarta. A stunning complex perched on one of the highest points overlooking Conchas Chinas.

I haven’t had the pleasure of staying in the Grand Miramar Resort, but I was in awe of the pool when I stayed Mondavi next door and I don’t think any good list of the best hotels in Puerto Vallarta would be complete without it.

The Grand Miramar Resort is located in Conchas Chinas, so remember that means it’s not super walkable. Ubers are easy though, and you’ll be treated to amazing vistas and several gorgeous pools and jacuzzies – including a rooftop infinity pool! 

The guest rooms at the Grand Miramar are apartment style suites, so this may be a good option for families or anyone looking for a hotel for a longer stay.
