From perusing the city’s many shops to rock climbing in the nearby national parks, you won’t get bored with the many things to do in Bayamón.

Bayamón is a bustling city located just a short drive south of San Juan, and it offers entertainment for all ages and interests.

I grew up in Bayamón and I can tell you it’s one of my favorite cities in the north area of Puerto Rico. And this is coming from someone who wrote a whole Puerto Rico ebook. In this article, I’m going to cover the 19 very best things to do in Bayamón to make your trip one for the ages.

Rum lovers and connoisseurs visiting Puerto Rico should head straight to Hacienda Santa Ana in Bayamón, where the exquisite Ron del Barrilito has been made since 1880. 

While here (in between sessions of sipping rum of course), I recommend that you take either a history, mixology, or tasting tour offered by the visitor’s center – it’s the best way to learn all about rum in Puerto Rico!

Charco Prieto

On the mountainous side of Bayamón you’ll find Charco Prieto, one of the most beautiful Puerto Rico waterfalls. The waterfall is about 200 feet high and is reached via one of the best hikes in Puerto Rico for outdoor enthusiasts, with a trail that crosses parts of the river.

Museo Francisco Oller

Museo Francisco Oller is a renowned permanent exhibition of portraits made by the famous Puerto Rican painter Francisco Oller. The museum is located in a historical building from 1907 in the town center of Bayamón and features an interior patio with sculptures. 

The museum also hosts traveling exhibitions, so make sure to stop by to see what’s in-house.

Museo de Arte de Bayamon

The Bayamon Art Museum is a hidden gem even some avid connoisseurs miss, but it’s easily one of the best things to do in Bayamón. This museum hosts Puerto Rican artwork from the 1950s up to today. 

Besides admiring the art pieces, you can take free workshops on Saturdays at 1:30 pm – so be sure to stop by and see what events are happening.

🚗 How To Get There: This museum is located inside the Park of Sciences in Bayamón which is temporarily closed. To get to the museum, you have to enter through a gate between the park and the shopping mall.

Paseo Lineal

The Paseo Lineal of Bayamón is a 9-kilometer trail that follows the Bayamón River until it reaches the sea in Levittown. The trail is super peaceful and is a great way to spend an afternoon enjoying the sunshine and having some leisure time outside.

The park is superb for exercising, taking a stroll surrounded by nature, and cycling. 

El Nido

Enjoy the city’s nightlife.

If you’re up for enjoying the nightlife, eating good food, and buying souvenirs all at once, then head over to El Nido. This local bar and restaurant offers great food and a lively night ambiance, and is perfect for anyone looking to let a little loose in Bayamon. 

Next to the bar, you’ll find a shop with t-shirts, caps, and other merchandise from independent creators and brands.

Los Trailers

Eat all you can in this unusual food court.

Foodies should put a pin on their map for Los Trailers in Bayamón, where they’ll find an outdoor food court with food options including Mexican, Japanese, and Puerto Rican. While you’re here, I recommend you make a stop at a Señor Paleta, where you can grab a refreshing popsicle with traditional flavors like tembleque.

Plaza del Mercado in Bayamón hosts multiple restaurants, food kiosks, and souvenir shops, but is far from a traditional market. The atmosphere here is casual yet lively, and during the weekends, you’ll find live music and a party-loving crowd. 

Casino Tropical

If you’re into poker, blackjack, or slot machines, then you’ll be glad to know there is a casino in Bayamón. Although small in comparison with other casinos on the island, Casino Tropical boasts a comfortable parking lot, bar and lounge area, and live entertainment. 

🛎️ Need a Hotel? If you want to stay right next to the Casino, or you just want a few days to explore the best of Bayamón, then book a night in the Hyatt Place in Bayamón. This hotel is centrally located next to Plaza del Sol and is just a short drive from Puerto Rico beaches like Punta Salinas Beach.

Rio Bayamon Golf Course

Another great outdoor option in Bayamón is the Rio Bayamón Golf Course. This course includes a total of 18 holes and a Driving Range with 58 stations where amateur golfers can practice. If you’re using only the Driving Range, and you already have golf clubs, then you only have to pay $5 for 50 balls.

👉 Pro Tip: If you’re visiting Puerto Rico on a budget, opt for visiting after 2:00 pm and take advantage of the $40 twilight price, which includes a golf cart and 18 holes.

Centro de Conservación de Manatíes de Puerto Rico

Take care of a manatee for a day.

Animal lovers can’t miss the Caribbean Manatee Conservation Center in Bayamon. Located inside the Interamericana University, the Manatee Conservation Center offers guided tours with information on the efforts of protecting endangered marine species. 

In particular, the “Be a Caretaker” tour is a great way to work closely with manatees and other wildlife species.

Parque Nacional Julio Enrique Monagas

Hike, bike, or climb in this park.

With the city’s development, it can be hard to find outdoor things to do in Bayamon, but Parque Nacional Julio Enrique Monagas stands as a local’s favorite for outdoor recreation. This park boasts both hiking and mountain biking trails, and adventure seekers will also enjoy climbing on the walls of the park with Monagas Rock Climbing.

Parque Central de los Niños

The Kid’s Central Park in Bayamón is the best in the city for a family picnic day. This park features gazebos, a basketball court, a playground, and a beautiful pond with colorful fish where you can snap a family photo. 

Chicharrones Pacheco

Craving a local snack? Then make a stop at the Chicharrones Pacheco store and buy chicharrones and mallorca, some of the best Puerto Rican foods you can’t miss while visiting the island.

Monte Frío Waterpark

Refresh yourself in the pools of awesome waterpark.

To escape the city’s heat, visit Monte Frío Waterpark on the mountainous side of Bayamón. The park has three water slides and pools, an arcade room, and a basketball and volleyball court your kids will love.  

183 Grados Ice Cream Atelier

Savour artisanal ice cream with unique flavors.

183 Grados is an ice cream shop in downtown Bayamón that has been attracting foodies since its opening. 

The small shop offers unique ice cream flavors as well as seasonal favorites. The interior has a nerdy atmosphere with decorations, murals, and art inspired by Star Wars, Harry Potter, and other pop culture references. 

You’ll also find vegan options to enjoy. Since the menu changes frequently, you’ll always find new flavors to try out.

La Esquinita Jardín Cervecero

Taste the best of local and international beers at this beer garden.

La Esquinita Jardín Cervecero is a beer garden where you can find the best Puerto Rico beers. The outdoor space has tables and benches to sit and relax with a draft beer in hand. Canned and bottled beers are also available.

Although limited, you’ll find onsite food options to accompany your selection of drinks. Smash burgers are particularly popular.

Visit on the weekend for live entertainment and to get to know the locals. Keep in mind you’ll need to find on-street parking.
