Paros Beaches: Tips & Advice

  • The Greek island of Paros offers beachgoers an assortment of coastal settings to choose from: tranquil sandy beaches with crystalline waters; breezy beaches ideal for wind sports; scenic beaches with stunning landscapes; even a healing beach employing natural mud therapies. Several beaches on Paros host beach clubs, water activity hubs, as well as beach furniture available for rental, while numerous others remain in a natural untouched state.
  • Spending time in Parikia or Naoussa (for the restaurants, shopping, and nightlife) and visiting the nearby beaches during the day is straightforward to do. Parikia is the main bus hub for the island with routes running several times daily to Naoussa, Paroasporos Beach, Aliki Beaches, Piso Livadi Beaches, Chrissi Akti Beach, Drios Beach, and more. Buses from Naoussa connect to Kolymbithres, Chrissi Akti Beach, Piso Livadi Beaches, and Drios Beach. At Naoussa’s Old Port there is a water taxi to 3 of the most popular beaches: Kolymbithres, Monastiri, and Laggeri.
  • To obtain the most favorable rates, travelers can purchase bus tickets ahead of time at the terminals located in Parikia and Naoussa or from nearby convenience stores in the beach towns. Ticket pricing ranges from €1.80 to €4.00 depending on the distance traveled. Riders may also buy tickets directly from the driver, though an extra fee applies in this case. 1. Kolymbithres Beach

a large group of people sitting on rocks near the ocean

Kolymbithres beach on Paros island is a must-visit location, known for the lunar-like granite rock formations along the shoreline. The bay naturally divides the beach into two main areas, each with its own beach club, and several smaller sandy sections between the rocks (arriving early allows claiming one of these private spots). Two water sports centers flank the beach, offering activities like windsurfing, sailing mini boats, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding. Easy access via bus or water taxi from Naoussa. Nearby hotels include those in Livadia town midway between Naoussa and Kolymbithres beach, around a 15 to 25-minute walk away (many provide free shuttles).

2. Chrissi Akti Beach

Also known as Golden Beach, Chrissi Akti is one of the most stunning beaches in Paros – a lengthy stretch of fine sand that sparkles in the sunlight due to its glass-like substance. The beach is popular with families for its shallow, crystal-clear water and easy access to excellent restaurants, beach clubs, and hotels. Its neighboring beach to the north Nea Chrissi Akti (New Golden Beach) hosts the annual Professional Windsurfing World Cup. This beach experiences particularly windy conditions in July and August, which has made it an international destination for windsurfing and kitesurfing; several water sports centers at both beaches offer equipment rentals and lessons.

3. Santa Maria Beach

Golden-white Santa Maria Beach is generally considered the top beach in Paros for swimming, dining venues, and beach clubs. This active beach is ideal for families with young children and teens, with ample space to spread out, shallow waters for novice swimmers, and water sports centers offering snorkeling, windsurfing, kitesurfing, and scuba diving. In July and August when east coast beaches experience strong winds, head north to sheltered Mikri Santa Maria (Little Santa Maria) Beach in its south-facing cove. Mikri Santa Maria also has a dive company, beach club, and nearby two authentic tavernas just off the sands.

4. Kalogeros Beach

Kalogeros beach on Paros island is renowned for its therapeutic mud, allowing site visitors to apply its sand and pebbles to the skin for a purely natural spa therapy. Situated in a south-facing cove at the base of a rocky precipice, this locale benefits from sheltering winds on the island`s eastern coastline. Most of the cliffs showcase red and yellow hues, distinguishing the beach`s clay bluffs appearing in gray. Locals break off fragments, mix the sediment with seawater to generate masks, rub the mixtures thoroughly over the skin, and let them dry in the sunlight. Swimmers rinse the mud from their bodies in the ocean for sleek, soft epidermis. Kalogeros lacks establishments and amenities, so plan to bring refreshments and fluids. The closest bus stops require roughly a thirty-minute walk to reach the hamlets of Marmara, Marpissa, and Piso Livadi, meaning vehicle rental is strongly recommended for tourism to Kalogeros beach. Superior lodgings near Kalogeros can be found in Piso Livadi.

5. Monastiri Beach

Monastiri Beach is a lively, sandy shoreline that is popular with families for its location in a tranquil, sheltered bay and its crystalline, shallow water – extending only about a meter deep for over 100 meters out to sea. The beach takes its name from the nearby religious building of Agios Ioannis, now a cartographic museum. Monastiri is the main beach of Paros Park (free entrance), an amazing environmental area with 3 hiking routes, an outdoor cinema, a cafΓ©, a lighthouse, and much more. There is a beach cafΓ© on site with beach chairs and umbrellas available for rental, and during summer, there are beach parties, free performances, and water sports. This beach can become crowded during high season; for a quieter beach experience, check out Perikopetra or Turkou Ammos Beaches, just a brief hike away and also in Paros Park. Monastiri Beach can be accessed by water taxi from Naoussa or by taking the bus to Kolymbithres and hiking around 30 minutes north. The closest hotels to Monastiri are in Livadia near Kolymbithres.

6. Faragas Beach

A lovely series comprising three small bays on Paros’ southern coastline with soft golden sand, dazzling blue water, and shelter from the wind. The central beach has one beach bar with umbrellas and sun loungers available for rent, while the rest of the coves are left in a natural state. Faragas is popular for swimming and snorkeling near the rock formations separating its beach areas. This remains one of the prettiest beaches in Paros.

7. Parasporos Beach

a beach area with chairs, tables and umbrellas

Posporos Beach, though more distant than other options near Parikia, offers a vibrant summer scene as the preferred spot. Two beachside venues provide simple yet satisfying cuisine alongside continuous music and late-night parties on the sand. The shore consists primarily of a sandy composition with some pebbly areas near the water`s edge, transitioning again to sand farther out. The calm waters make for ideal swimming conditions. Visitors to Posporos tend to skew younger, mostly in their twenties and early thirties

8. Piperi Beach

a beach filled with lots of boats and people

Piperi Beach is the best of the 3 beaches in Naoussa village (Piperaki and Agii Anargyri are the others), though in general beaches here are not the best on the island. These north-facing beaches catch the strongest of Paros’ winds and tend to be rocky. Piperi has a sandy center flanked by rocks at either end. This is a suitable beach for sunbathing, and the water tends to be calm for swimming. The beach is disorganized with no restaurants or beach clubs, though there are several amazing nearby hotels and it is easy to reach by bus or on foot.

9. Molos Beach

a sandy beach with a body of water

Secluded Molos Beach is located north of Kalogeros Beach, approximately a 5-minute walk away, making enjoying both beaches on the same day straightforward. Situated deep within a bay, the beach tends to experience less wind than other east coast beaches and offers a tranquil atmosphere even during summer`s peak season. This is an unorganized beach with no rentals of sunbeds or umbrellas, though at its south end there is a traditional seafood eatery.

10. Livadia Beach

a sandy beach with a body of water

The primary beach in Parikia, Livadia offers a gently curved sandy beach with calm, still waters like a swimming pool. Despite its proximity to the island’s main port and village, Livadia maintains clean crystal waters. Kitted with excellent beach clubs, casual seaside eateries, lively bars, and quality hotels. Beach chairs and umbrellas available to rent, sometimes even free or very cheaply (between €3 to €5) if ordering food or drinks from one of the beachfront establishments. A couple water sports centers and sailboat rental vendors are present here as well as a beachfront campground, making this a popular location for younger travelers.

11. Laggeri Beach

a beach with a body of water and mountains

Laggeri Beach is a remote and peaceful beach situated in a natural bay facing west towards the sunset while being sheltered from the wind. The beach is organically divided by some small rocky protrusions interspersed with sand. Its isolation has made it the most popular nude beach on Paros, though it is increasingly visited by beachgoers wearing bathing suits. The road to Laggeri is full of potholes and poorly maintained, making it difficult to access over land. However, the water taxi from Naoussa’s Old Port stops here several times per day in summer.

12. Aliki Beaches

people at a beach with umbrellas

Aliki is the largest fishing town on Paros and is home to 3 fantastic beaches. The primary Aliki Beach is best, offering fine sand, great swimming, wonderful seafood tavernas, and beach loungers for rent. The smaller beaches, Piso Aliki and Agios Nikolaos, are quieter, sandy-pebbly beaches with crystal clear water and charming, authentic tavernas.

13. Agia Irini Beach

a beach scene with people walking on the beach

The most suitable shoreline destination when powerful winds are prevalent throughout July and August happens to be Agia Irini (also named Palm Beach), a gorgeous (albeit narrow) sandy stretch with excellent swimming within a cove on Paros’ western coast. There exists a casual tavern at the northern end of the beach along with a outstanding beach club at the southern end supplying sun loungers and umbrellas for rent, superb cuisine and cocktails, and memorable music. The beach can become crowded in summer, so arrive early to reserve the finest spot.
