Syros’ best beaches are situated along its west and south coasts. The northern half of the island is rugged and uninhabited, and those beaches are only accessible by boat or lengthy footpaths. Although bus service runs from Ermoupoli to many beaches, renting a car is advised for maximum convenience and to explore the island’s more remote options.

2. Galissas – west coast
Galissas is the longest beach on Syros, and home to some of the island’s top hotels for families. Situated in a wide bay that is sheltered by the north winds, Galissas boasts crystal clear water and beautiful sunsets from its west coast location. It has exceptionally shallow water with a very gentle slope for quite a distance – an ideal for parents with little children. Several beach bars and the fabulous aVentoura restaurant are situated along its golden sandy beach, with other bars and numerous tavernas only a five-minute walk away

Agathopes beach on the Greek island of Syros is considered one of the most prestigious due to its calm light blue waters and variety of amenities available. 5. Asteria – east coast
Absent of any sand, the atmospheric “beach” named Asteria is a manmade platform nestled against the Ermoupoli seawall, with an entry ladder granting access to the waters. Situated in the Vaporia neighborhood, Asteria boasts a picturesque backdrop including the iconic Church of Agios Nikolaos and the brightly colored mansions perched above. It establishes an almost magical setting.
Local residents of all age groups greatly enjoy spending time in this wonderful spot, which is popular throughout the day and night. There is a shower available for rinsing off saltwater from the sea, and a small cabin provided for changing clothes; thatched umbrellas on the platform supply some shade. 6. Delphini – west coast
Delphini beach offers a secluded and tranquil setting, with a beautifully sheltered cove and refreshingly clear waters ideal for swimming and snorkeling. The northern section has golden sands and two beachfront bars supplying lounge chairs and umbrellas; the southern portion is pebbly and accepts nude sunbathing.
There is no bus service to Delphini Beach. The dirt road leading to the beach is in average condition, with the final section being unpaved. A small parking area is situated next to the beach.

7. Azolimnos – east coast
Among the finer sandy coastlines situated relatively near to the principal city of Ermoupoli, Azolimnos features three piers with rental chairs and a handful of eateries. 9. Komito – south coast
Nestled along an unfrequented stretch of coastline on the southern extremity, Komito Beach invites relaxation and recreation amid serenity.
