Syros Beach Basics

Syros’ best beaches are situated along its west and south coasts. The northern half of the island is rugged and uninhabited, and those beaches are only accessible by boat or lengthy footpaths. Although bus service runs from Ermoupoli to many beaches, renting a car is advised for maximum convenience and to explore the island’s more remote options.

  • The island of Syros has six beaches that have earned the Blue Flag designation – Kini Beach, Galissas Beach, Agathopes Beach, Vari Beach, Azolimnos Beach, and Finikas Beach.
  • Five beaches on Syros offer a beach wheelchair called Seatrac. The Seatrac system gives independent ocean access for people with disabilities through a remotely operated chair fixed on a track that can be moved through the sand and into the water. Places featuring this include: Agathopes Beach, Galissas Beach, Kini Beach, Vari Beach, and Voulgari Beach). a wooden bench sitting on top of a sandy beach

  • For a charming and romantic atmosphere, Kini Beach offers numerous beachfront tavernas (providing top-notch seafood) that are nearly adjoining the beautiful golden sand. Great sunsets there too.
  • Agathopes Beach is lively and stylish, set in an attractive cove that’s sprinkled with summer homes. Calm azure waters, a volleyball court, and a prestigious restaurant/bar on the beach make this a popular destination.
