Situated in downtown Athens, the excellent and kid-friendly Museum of Cycladic Art was founded in 1986 to house the privately held collection of Dolly and Nikolaos Goulandris (members of a notable Greek shipping family) – one of the most complete privately held collections of Cycladic art globally.

The museum contains two main structures linked by an impressive entryway and atrium. The permanent collection is housed in the main building and separated into 4 floors highlighting Cycladic Art, Ancient Greek Art, Ancient Cypriot Art, as well as scenes depicting daily life in Antiquity – including videos portraying experiences of Ancient Greeks such as weddings, births, education, physical training, bidding warriors farewell, and funerals. Temporary exhibits are housed in an 1895 neoclassical mansion once belonging to the Stathatos shipping family; these exhibits focus mostly on contemporary art. Works by Salvador Dali, Pablo Picasso, Thomas Struth, Louise Bourgeois, Sarah Lucas, Ugo Rondinone, Jannis Kounellis, Mario Merz, Ai Weiwei, and Cy Twombly have been among the artists featured.

Set within a short walk of Syntagma Square in central Athens, this location sells trendy jewelry designs and an extensive selection of books on Greek history and archeology. A courtyard cafe/restaurant serves delicious breakfast options, sandwiches, salads, coffee and drinks.
