Hotel Review

Andronis Arcadia – Refined lodging suitable for families with amenities including an infinity swimming area, lagoon pool, spa facilities, and two highly-rated dining establishments.

Contemporary accommodations on Santorini all feature a private terrace including a heated swimming pool and unbroken sunset views of the ocean (not over the caldera). Suites and villas vary in size from spacious at 42 square meters to the enormous 6-bedroom, 600 square meter Eden Villa. Their signature restaurant, Pacman, serves Mediterranean fine dining paired with sushi, while the Sunset Restaurant Bar by the infinity pool highlights crafted cocktails, local wines, and casual meals. The new Grande Pool incorporates small “islands” for seating and transforms into a lively gathering spot at night. Set within a short walk of Oia’s most loved attractions and near the bus station providing routes to Fira, while situated sufficiently away for rest and relaxation)..

Andronis Arcadia – Location

The hotel is situated in a peaceful setting on the northwestern edge of Oia, just 150 meters from dining and shopping areas, 300 meters to the caldera’s edge, and only 600 meters to the Byzantine castle ruins, one of Santorini’s most popular sunset lookout points. The main bus station for Oia is steps away from the hotel with frequent service to Fira, where the central bus hub serves the whole island.

How to Get There: The hotel sits on the main westbound path through Oia, making it very convenient to travel to and from, whether by taxi, driving yourself, or riding the bus. It is approximately 20km from the ferry terminal and about 16 km from the Santorini Airport to Andronis Arcadia.

Transportation to and from the ferry port and Santorini Airport always involves buses waiting for each arrival. Buses depart hourly too from the airport. However, there are no buses going directly from either location to Oia; buses from both spots go to Fira initially, where a separate bus must then be taken to reach Oia – the entire trip from the port or airport to Oia will minimum take an hour and cost approximately €5 total. Tickets can only be purchased in cash on the bus. The hotel is just 250 meters, about a 3-minute walk, from the Oia bus station.

Heymondo and SafetyWing are two of the prominent travel medical insurances for trips to the United States. If you want extra selections, I suggest examining our guide to the top travel medical protection for the U.S.

For those preferring to self-drive, we advise renting a vehicle either upon arrival at the airport or in Fira. The road from the ferry port is steep and narrow, with numerous tricky turns, large trucks, and buses. Leave that navigation to the locals. We strongly recommend reserving a vehicle in advance, particularly if an automatic transmission is needed. Upon arrival in Oia, Andronis Arcadia offers free parking.

Handy to: Oia Bus Terminal, the Byzantine Castle Ruins, and the heart of Oia’s pedestrian district).

Andronis Arcadia – The Basics

  • Ages: Visitors of all age groups are permitted at the hotel. Family amenities include spacious suites and villas, cots, infant beds, kids’ menus, babysitting, child-sized bathrobes, swim goggles and flotation devices, kids’ yoga, kids’ spa treatments, and more.
  • Beach: The nearest place for swimming (though it is not a proper beach) is at Ammoudi Bay, the harbor directly below Oia, less than a kilometer from Andronis Arcadia. This is a popular spot for swimming and cliff jumping; though it’s too rocky and small to do much lounging. Ammoudi Bay is the main harbor of Oia, and is served by several spectacular seafood restaurants. It’s a steep climb down and back again, but it’s relatively easy to catch a cab at the bottom to bring you back up the hill. (Purchase a snack at one of the restaurants and the waiter will be happy to call one.) Katharos Beach is another rocky beach nearby with one beach bar. It is off the beaten path, so much quieter than Ammoudi Bay but not as beautiful.
  • Scenery: All suites and villas offer a sunset perspective over the Aegean but not the caldera. This is a spectacular sundown spot for unblocked views of the sun dipping into the ocean.
  • Kitchen: The 3-story, 6-bedroom Eden Villa features a fully stocked kitchen.
  • Private Pools/Jacuzzis: All suites and villas have their own heated private dipping spots on their outdoor spaces including lounge chairs facing scenic sunsets. The three bedroom villa adds a relaxing hot tub, and the Eden Villa adds a second heated pool for enjoyment.
  • Parking: Free parking onsite.
  • Amenities: The hotel’s Sleep Concierge provides options like a pillow selection, aromatherapy in rooms, evening snacks near the bed, and a lavender service when turning down the bed. Room features include a kit for fitness, a choice of 3 toiletry brands, an Nespresso machine, and organic selections in the mini fridge. Services incorporate 24-hour reception, around-the-clock room service, complimentary yoga, free functional training, and daily hiking at no cost. Perks for families include kids’ menus, small bathrobes for children, youngsters’ yoga and spa remedies, and more.
  • When to Book: The hotel accepts reservations from mid-April/early May through October. Reserve a minimum of 4 months in advance (6 months is preferable) for stays during peak season from June through September, and around 2 months ahead for the low and shoulder seasons.
  • Booking lodging at Booking.com is likely to yield the most competitive rates.

  • For Families: Andronis Arcadia is open to all guests including those with children as well as pets. Younger visitors have kid-friendly options like menu items for them, babysitting services, pool toys, youth yoga and spa treatments offered. The hotel provides several comfortable accommodations for families, such as 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom apartments over 3 levels including an infinity pool sleeping up to 4 persons. Larger groups should reserve a villa. The top villa at this location is a 6-bedroom, 6-bathroom Eden Villa able to sleep up to 12 individuals and offering private spa, gym, fully equipped kitchen, and two personal pools. At 600 square meters, this is the biggest villa on the island.

Andronis Arcadia – Local Transport

  • Walking: Nestled in a tranquil nook just northwest of Oia village’s center, about a 2-minute walk from romantic dining and high-end shopping, about a 4-minute walk from the caldera, and a pleasant 9-minute walk to the picturesque castle ruins. The hotel is an easy 4-minute walk, to the bus station with frequent service to Fira.
  • Bus: The transportation hub in Oia known as the Oia Bus Terminal is only 250m away and provides access to all of the major villages and beaches on the island (sometimes requiring a transfer in Fira). Tickets can be purchased on board and range from €1.80 to €2.50 per person during the day depending on the route. Buses running late at night (12:30 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.) are less frequent and cost slightly more, from €2.30 to €3.10. Public transportation can become very crowded, especially during the peak season, so much so that buses often reach full capacity and cannot accommodate any additional passengers. Only 23 public buses serve the island.
  • Transportation options: The closest taxi stand is located at Stathmos Taxi near the Oia Bus Terminal. There is often a wait here as only 25 taxis service the entire island (with guests from approximately 1,000 hotels, villas, and Airbnbs). It is recommended to book ahead to minimize wait times, and you can arrange to be picked up directly from the hotel. There will usually be a small additional charge for advanced reservations and for transporting luggage, usually just a couple of Euros. The average fare from Oia to Fira is €20, and from Oia to the airport is roughly €35 to €40.
  • Motorbikes: Locals commonly use motor scooters as transport, but unfamiliar roads present hazards. Thoroughfares zigzag steeply upwards and downwards on narrow paths sometimes without guardrails or nighttime illumination. Unpaved trails and potholes are common.
  • ATVs/Quads: ATVs are an enjoyable and popular method of transportation with visitors, but for the locals required to drive behind them, they maneuver too gradually and hold up traffic in an area where moving around is already challenging. For individuals who don’t routinely ride quads (i.e. most people), they can be risky at high speeds and on turns. Crashed your ATV is a guaranteed way to ruin your vacation.
