Rental Vehicles from Santorini Airport

My recommendation: Picking up a rental automobile at the Santorini airport is significantly easier than in Fira, Oia, or at the ferry terminal. I highly advise using RentalCars.com to book a car in advance (particularly if an automatic transmission is needed).

The Santorini Airport (JTR) is located on the east side of the island, approximately 5km from Fira, Santorini’s scenic capital city and transportation hub. Year-round, there are daily flights connecting Athens and Santorini; from May to October, the airport serves direct flights from numerous European cities.

Though small and easy to navigate, the Santorini Airport is often crowded and chaotic. We recommend that travelers with carry-on luggage arrive at the Santorini Airport at least one hour before their flight; those checking bags should arrive two or more hours ahead. If possible, check-in for your flight online early to save some time.

Travelers arriving have several transportation choices to get from the Santorini Airport to their destination, including bus, taxi, pre-arranged car service, car rental, and private hotel transfer. Taking the bus is the most budget-friendly option and relatively convenient, especially if your location is Fira. Pre-booking a car service is the simplest way to get from the Santorini Airport to your hotel, and costs only somewhat more than hiring a taxi. We suggest Welcome Pickups. All of these transportation choices are explored in thorough detail below.

Booking (and paying) in advance removes the need for cash in hand to pay the driver, and your driver will monitor your flight to be aware of any changes or delays. This is a great choice for families and large groups; bigger vehicles can be reserved for parties larger than four people and child safety seats are available upon request.

Most hotels will provide transportation from the airport but, while some cover this without charge, generally it will surpass a taxi or private transfer in cost, and likely a rental car for one day as well.

  • Casino: Yes. The only genuine casino in the Green Valley Ranch area of Henderson. It becomes busy, but gaming spaces are separate from restaurants and amenities. Bingo nights attract even a younger group.

RentalCars.com seems to provide the ideal option for reserving an automobile from the Santorini airport. Making arrangements ahead of time ensures the car will await your arrival at the airport – literally, just a 30-second walk from where passengers disembark. Automobile renting firms situated at the Santorini Airport include Avance, Avis/Budget, Hertz/Thrifty, Sixt, and Suntime. Other car renting businesses (Drive, Alamo, National, Enterprise) have places nearby, potentially offering airport pickup and dropoff service. (Read additional advice for renting a car in Santorini.)

Procuring an International Driver`s Permit in advance of your trip to Santorini is advised if you plan to rent a vehicle there. These permits are obtainable through organizations like AAA (US), CAA (Canada), the UK postal service, and AAA Australia. Pricing varies between nations from approximately $5 to $25, and IDPs are valid for one year. Greek law mandates that foreign drivers carry an IDP in addition to a license; yet rental agencies may lease to you without one, getting caught without one could lead to heavy fines in the event of an accident or citation.

Santorini Airport Bus

Regular airport bus service operates from the airport parking area to Fira and costs €1.80. Payment is made in cash only, so it’s wise to ensure you have some coins or small bills on hand before exiting the airport. (There are ATMs and a currency exchange booth located in the arrivals area.) All Santorini buses have ample room for luggage and provide a comfortable, air-conditioned ride. The trip from the airport to Fira takes approximately 10 minutes.

To travel between other towns ( Firostefani,Imerovigli,Oia,Kamari,Perissa & Perivolos,Akrotiri, and Pyrgos), you’ll need to switch transportation vehicles in Fira (and purchase a separate ticket).

There are typically 7 to 15 buses each day traveling from the Santorini airport to Fira, departing hourly to every 90 minutes from 6:15 AM to 11 PM, with increased frequency during peak season. In some peak seasons there may also be bus service between the airport and Santorini ferry port, but this is not guaranteed. There are no late night buses from the Santorini airport to Fira.

All buses to the airport depart from Fira. To reach the airport from the beach or any other village, you’ll need to change buses in Fira (and buy a separate ticket).

Santorini Airport Taxi

Transportation in Santorini is difficult to obtain – there just aren’t that many (only 37) for such a popular island. There is a taxi stand directly across from the arrivals hall of the Santorini airport, but depending on the time of day, there aren’t always taxis. Be prepared to queue and wait.

Carriages in Santorini that transport people are not priced based on distance or time, with the costs generally agreed upon before setting off. The usual fare to Fira or Oia from the Santorini Airport should be around €25-30; expect charges to increase in the evening and night hours. Payment is made with physical currency.

Santorini Airport Shuttle

Shuttle Transportation is accessible to and from the Santorini Airport for the cost of approximately €15 per traveler. These can be booked ahead or on-site at a kiosk in the arrivals area. Though you might get lucky and get a shuttle to yourself, shuttles take multiple passengers and can make around four stops per route. And even though the rate may at first seem cheaper than a pre-booked car service, per-person fares can add up quickly. Generally, a shuttle is only a cost-effective (semi)private choice for those journeying solo.

There is no Uber or Lyft on Santorini.

Santorini Airport Hotels

The two closest towns to the Santorini flight terminal are Fira and Kamari. The two are around 10 minutes by taxi from the air terminal, and the two have numerous inns in all value goes, from financial plan to extravagance. There is no need to pick an actual Santorini airport hotel. Regardless of where you remain, you will in any case need to take a taxi, transport, shuttle, or vehicle administration. No inns are inside strolling separation of the Santorini air terminal.

Having acknowledged all that, the closest hotel to the Santorini airport is Marvarit Suites in the adjoining village of Monolithos. It’s in fact quite pleasant. There’s a swimming pool and they offer free shuttle service to and from the airport. Nikki Beach is the finest beachfront hotel near the Santorini Airport – but it’s still not within walking distance.
