Tinos Beach Basics

The Greek island of Tinos possesses over 40 beaches, ranging from remote and deserted varieties to cosmopolitan-style beaches with lively bars and water activities. The finest beaches on Tinos are along the south and west coastlines, which are shielded from the strong north summer winds known as the Meltemi wind.

Tip: If traveling to a remote beach by vehicle, keep in mind that navigation applications on mobile phones will sometimes guide you along the fastest route, which may not always be the optimal route. Stick to the major roads when possible, to avoid paths that can end up resembling goat trails more than roads.

  • Tinos’ most admired beach is Agios Ioannis Beach, pictured above on the distant left, with low translucent waters, several beach bars, and some compact hotels, summer homes, and flats nearby. This beach is quite near to three extra beaches pictured to the right. The long turquoise expanse of water is literally a collection of three beaches in one gulf: Agios Kiriaki Beach (left), Laouti Beach (middle), and Agios Sostis Beach (right).
  • Tinos’ most famous shore is Kolympithra Beach, a horseshoe-shaped bay with two side-by-side emerald waters. The more substantial shore is a surfing beach; the nearby beach, nestled into a cove, is preferable for swimming. If you enjoy snorkeling, there are rocky inlets here to explore. This beach lies on the north coast (opposite the island from Tinos Town) so the north winds can churn up huge waves here and sometimes make it resemble a giant wave pool.
  • Tinos’ Agios Romanos Beach has a Seatrac system that provides beachgoers with disabilities unassisted sea access. A chair moves along a track through the sand and into the water using remote control.
