I’m not attempting to discourage anyone from having a Santorini wedding, but you need to know from the beginning what`s involved. Much of the wedding planning and preparation can be handled by wedding organizers in Santorini (like obtaining your personal documents translated into Greek), but you`ll still need to do plenty yourselves, so be ready.
An alternative to an official wedding ceremony in Santorini is to hold a symbolic rite that does not necessitate the legal documentation. The wedding vows, event, location, and reception party are all the same but without all the additional hassle. (Of course, to make the marriage valid, vows would need to be exchanged in one’s home country either before or after the trip.) This is a good choice particularly for same-sex couples as currently, same-sex marriage is not legal in Greece.
And do not forget: Accommodations for the highly acclaimed hotels of Santorini should be reserved many months in advance. (For a sizable group traveling together, I would aim to book lodging 9 to 11 months ahead of time.)
