Hotel Review

Mystique – Magnificent luxury hotel on the Oia caldera with two sparkling pools, a tranquil spa, and a fine-dining French restaurant.

Mystique is a relaxing escape located near the base of the Oia caldera, which permits undisturbed ocean views and provides more privacy than suites at most surrounding hotels. Mystique offers various suites and villas, most with private hot tubs, pools, or both. Hotel guests are served by 3 outstanding restaurants: Lure (Greek meals prepared with French methods), Charisma (relaxed, stylish Mediterranean), and the Captain’s Lounge (breakfast and all-day casual snacks). The holistic spa, caldera-scenery pools, and exceptional service finish the experience here. Mystique is within walking distance to the heart of Oia yet removed from the crowds)..

  • Day Celebrating Saint Nikolaus – December 6 mainly sees the recognition of Saint Nikolaus in German-speaking regions where the night before Samichlaus visits children’s homes. In Bulle there will be a St. Nicholas Market and torchlight procession.

How to Get There:
The hotel sits beside the key road into Oia, making it really simple to travel to and from, whether by taxi, driving yourself, or riding the bus. It is approximately 18km from the Athinios ferry port and the Santorini Airport to the hotel, though they are in different headings

Transportation is always waiting at the ferry port for each ferry arrival in the form of buses, as well as buses leaving hourly from Santorini Airport. However, there are nodirect buses from the port or airport to Oia; buses from both places travel to Fira, where one must then board a different bus to Oia – the whole trip from the port or airport to Oia will take at minimum an hour and cost around €5 total. Tickets are purchased on the bus in cash only. From the Oia Bus Terminal, it’s an easy 10-minute walk to the hotel.

`

Transportation from the harbor or airport can be obtained through taxis, though there are only about 25 serving the entire island, resulting in potential waits; booking a ride in advance through a private car service like Welcome Pickups can help bypass this. Taxis on Santorini do not use meters, so be sure to agree on a price before departing. A taxi from the airport to Mystique would likely cost around €35 to €40. Going from the ferry port would cost approximately €35 to €40 as well. Using a private car service would cost only somewhat more – about $60 (or €50) but offers the benefits of avoiding waits and prepaying.

Mystique – The Basics

  • Patrons: An adults-only property, only ages 14 and older can stay. Most guests are couples commemorating a special event, usually a honeymoon or anniversary.
  • Coastline spot: The closest place for a dip in the water (though it is not truly a beach) is at Ammoudi Bay, the port directly beneath Oia, 1.5 km from the lodging. This location is popular for swimming and cliff diving; though the area is too rocky and small to relax much. Ammoudi Bay is the main port of Oia and features numerous renowned seafood eateries. It’s a steep trek down and return again, but it’s relatively simple to hail a taxi at the bottom to bring you back up the hill. (Purchase a snack at one of the restaurants, and the server will be pleased to call one.)
  • View: Sweeping caldera views are available from each suite and villa. Being the lowest altitude hotel in this cliffside area, views are completely uninterrupted. The hotel does not have a direct view of the sunset.
  • Private Pools/Jacuzzis: Several suite and villa types come with private, outdoor hot tubs and/or swimming pools. The Wet Allure Suites and All 2 Senses Suites feature outdoor hot tubs; the Spiritual Suite and Spa has both indoor and outdoor hot tubs; the Mystery Villa has a private endless pool; the Secrecy Villa and Holistic Villa include outdoor hot tubs and endless pools.
  • Parking: There are 2 parking areas near Mystique. The closest one, about a 1 minute walk away, charges €10 per day. There is also a free area next to the desalination plant, only a 6-minute stroll away.
  • Additional Options: Twice daily maid assistance, wedding planning, private dining, 24-hour reception.
  • The hotel typically functions from mid-April until early November. Reserve no less than 4 months in advance (6 months is preferable) for stays during the high season from June through September, and about 2 months in advance for the low and shoulder seasons.

Mystique – Rooms

  • Room Types: Vibrant Suite • Allure Suite • Wet Allure Suite • Spiritual Suite and Spa • All 2 Senses Suite • Secrecy Villa • Mystery Villa • Holistic Villa

This spacious villa features a terrace with a private hot tub and personal infinity pool, taking in magnificent views over the caldera with more seclusion than suites. Inside offers a bedroom with king bed, separate living/dining area, private gym, and lavish bathroom with shower, dual sinks, and soaking tub.
  • For Those Traveling Without Children: This adults-only property only allows guests ages 14 and above. Larger groups with older kids would benefit most from the Holistic Villa. This expansive villa covering 95 square meters offers a private hot tub, personal swimming pool with ocean views, and a spacious outdoor deck. Inside are two cave-like bedrooms with king beds and two bathrooms with open air showers, in addition to an spacious living and dining area. The Holistic Villa and All 2 Senses Suite are the sole accommodations capable of housing up to four visitors. Bigger families may need to book two rooms.

Mystique – Local Transport

  • Ambling: The hotel is found near the beginning of Oia, not distant from the marble strolling route, encircled by an endless variety of bistros, outlets, and sights to see. Oia Bus Terminal is only 11 minutes away on foot, rendering it effortless to tour the rest of the island. The most photographed Church of Panagia of Platsani is nearby, approximately a 13-minute stroll. The fortress ruins, the most famous sunset vista is a 19-minute walk westward, while Ammoudi Bay is only a little further, 25 minutes from the hotel.
  • Bus: Mystique is situated near the Oia Bus Terminal, just an 11-minute walk away. Buses here serve all the main villages and beaches within the island. Direct routes to Imerovigli, Firostefani, and Fira are available, while all routes to the beaches, port, airport, or other villages necessitates a change of bus in Fira. Tickets are purchased on board and range from €1.80 to €2.50 per person during daytime hours, depending on the route. Night buses (12:30 am to 5 am) run less often and cost a little more, from €2.30 to €3.10. Buses can get very busy, especially during the peak season, so much that they regularly reach full capacity and are unable to take on additional passengers. There are only 23 public buses serving the island.
  • Taxis: The nearest location where taxis wait is at Stathmos Taxi, near the Oia Bus Terminal, 11 minutes away. There are typically only 25 taxis serving the whole island (with guests from about 1,000 hotels, villas, and Airbnbs) so there is usually a wait here. It is best to make a reservation ahead of time to avoid waiting, plus you can have them meet you closer to the hotel. A taxi from the airport to Mystique should cost around €35 to €40, and a taxi from Fira or the ferry port to Mystique should cost around €20. There will normally be a small extra charge for reservations made in advance and for transporting luggage, usually just a couple of Euros.
  • Motorbikes: Locals commonly use motor scooters as transport, but unfamiliar roads present hazards. Thoroughfares zigzag steeply upwards and downwards on narrow paths sometimes without guardrails or nighttime illumination. Unpaved trails and potholes are common.
  • ATVs/Quads: ATVs are an enjoyable and popular method of transportation with visitors, but for the locals required to drive behind them, they maneuver too gradually and hold up traffic in an area where moving around is already challenging. For individuals who don’t routinely ride quads (i.e. most people), they can be risky at high speeds and on turns. Crashed your ATV is a guaranteed way to ruin your vacation.
