Hotel Review

Myst Boutique Hotel – Recently constructed lavish hotel with an expansive pool area, secluded jacuzzis, and an exceptional on-site eatery located in a tranquil neighborhood.

With a contemporary design blended with Greek influences, this adults-only hotel offers stylish rooms with private verandas – all but two include outdoor jacuzzis. Light dishes, modern Greek comfort cuisine, and a full bar are accessible at the restaurant at surprisingly reasonable prices. The infinity pool has double-sized floating lounge chairs inside, with individual-sized loungers surrounding it, providing panoramas of the Aegean Sea (not the caldera). Situated in the Tholos neighborhood, a tranquil escape merely 800 meters from Oia`s core, the hotel provides seclusion and privacy yet simple access to all the dining and attractions the village is renowned for).

Myst Boutique Hotel – Location

Location: Tranquil setting around 800 meters north of Oia, providing much more privacy than any of the caldera hotels while still being a walkable distance to the village’s top dining, shopping, and attractions. The caldera’s edge is only roughly 17 minutes away on foot, while the Oia Bus Terminal is just 15 minutes away, making it very easy to visit the capital Fira or the ruins of Akrotiri.

How to Arrive: The lodging is situated on the main road traveling northward out of Oia, making it very convenient to go to and from, whether by taxi, self-driving, or riding the bus. It is approximately 18km from the Athinios ferry port and the Santorini Airport to the hotel, though they are in opposing directions.

Vancouver has an active live theatre community with multiple venues and annual events worth checking out. The Arts Club Theatre Company is the largest organization, staging productions at three locations – the modern BMO Theatre, the popular Granville Island Stage, and the historic Stanley Theatre. Their shows range from large-scale summer musicals to new Canadian collaborations to intimate studio performances. Just off Commercial Drive, The Cultch theatre, in contrast, offers a more diverse selection of independent and traveling shows – their satirical East Van Panto at the nearby York Theatre is a favorite during the holiday season.

Transportation options from the port or airport include taxis. However, there are only around 25 taxis serving the entire island, so waiting may be necessary; reserving a vehicle through a private transportation service ahead of time can prevent delays (I have used and endorse Welcome Pickups). Taxis on Santorini do not use meters, so be sure to agree on a rate with the driver before departing. A taxi from the airport to Myst will cost roughly €35 to €40. A taxi from the ferry port will cost around €35 to €40 as well. Booking through a private transportation service will cost a little extra – about $60 (or €50) – but is worth it to avoid waiting and for the convenience of prepaying.

For individuals who favor to drive themselves, we recommend renting an automobile either at the airport upon arrival, or in Fira. The road from the ferry dock is steep and narrow, with many tricky switchbacks, large trucks, and buses. Leave that to the locals to navigate. We strongly advise booking a vehicle in advance, especially if you demand automatic transmission. Upon arrival, there is ample free street parking in front of the hotel.

Handy to: Oia Bus Terminal, dining, and shopping in the center of Oia).

Myst Boutique Hotel – The Basics

  • Ages: Only approved for grownups, guests 16 years and up are permitted. Visitors tend to be couples celebrating a unique event, typically a honeymoon or anniversary. The summer months see a handful of families with older kids, but this primarily caters to couples.
  • Beach: The closest area for swimming (though it is not actually a proper beach) is at Ammoudi Bay, the port directly below Oia, 2km from the hotel. This location is popular for swimming and cliff diving; however, it`s too rocky and small to do much relaxing. Ammoudi Bay serves as the main port of Oia, and is home to several renowned seafood restaurants. It involves a steep descent and climb, but it`s relatively simple to hire a taxi at the bottom to bring you back up the hill. (Purchase a snack at one of the eateries, and the server will happily call one.)
  • View: All rooms offer a sea view or sunset sea view over the Aegean, but not the caldera.
  • Private Pools/Jacuzzis: 17 of the 19 rooms featured private outdoor jacuzzis on their terraces.
  • Parking: Lots of free roadside parking out front of the hotel.
  • Additional Amenities: Pool service, herb garden, vineyard, shuttle to Oia. Spa and gym are planned according to this update.
  • When to Book: The lodging operates from May 1 until October 31. Reserve at minimum 3 months in advance (4 months preferable) for stays during prime season from June through September, and about 2 months in advance for off and transition seasons.
  • How to Book: Booking.com will offer the most competitive rates.

Guests requiring wheelchair accessibility would find it unsuitable.
  • For Families: An adults-only hotel, guests 16 years and above are permitted. There are no special facilities or amenities for children. There is only 1 suite that can accommodate up to 4 guests.

Myst Boutique Hotel – Food and Drink

  • Restaurant: The establishment that serves meals, snacks, and drinks is available for customers every day from 8:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m., providing basic but skillfully made Greek dishes with a emphasis on perfect grilled meats and fresh seafood. They specialize in light bites but also offer several more substantial options and are attentive to any unique dietary requirements. Plus, they provide a full champagne selection, an extensive list of wines and beers, and a wide variety of vodkas. The main eating area is on the terrace overlooking the pool, and they also serve poolside during lunch.
  • Lounge/Bar: The pool area`s refreshment location serves exceptional signature cocktails, well-mixed classics, sparkling wines, and beers throughout the day. The pool bar also provides lunch from the main dining area`s kitchen.
  • Breakfast: A complimentary breakfast buffet is served each morning along with a la carte choices in the principal dining area. The spread offers homemade jams and desserts, local cheeses, fresh breads and pastries, and also a waffle station with made-to-order eggs. High-quality coffees, organic juices, and smoothies are likewise accessible.
  • Meal Delivery: Meals can be requested during regular dining hours.

Myst Boutique Hotel – Rooms

  • Room Varieties: Premium Room Pool Front with Sea Perspective • Supreme Suite with Outdoor Hot Tub and Sea Perspective • Delight Suite with Outdoor Hot Tub and Sea Perspective
  • Smoking Areas: The hotel does not permit smoking inside any room or suite. It is allowed on private terraces and in the outdoor, common regions of the hotel.
  • Best Room: The Delight Suite is the most expansive suite, a bit more than twice the size of the Supreme Suites. It features 2 private outdoor spaces, 1 with a sunrise vista, and the other with a sunset view and hot tub.
  • For Families: Only guests ages 16 and older are permitted. There are no special accommodations or amenities for children. The Delight Suite is the only suite that can accommodate up to 4 guests with 1 king bed and a fold-out bed with a trundle. This is an open concept suite though, so it is all 1 room.

Myst Boutique Hotel – Local Transport

  • Getting Around on Foot: The hotel is situated north of Oia’s center, with its fine dining, high-end shops, and few bars requiring an approximate 15-minute walk. The route to the village involves an uphill climb (800m) that isn`t extremely steep but is fairly long. The Oia Castle ruins require an approximate 24 minutes on foot. Ammoudi Bay is reachable via a steep and winding path down the side of the caldera, easy enough going down but arduous returning uphill; numerous individuals take a taxi or donkey back to the top.
  • Bus: The transportation terminal in Oia for buses is only around 15 minutes away, and serves all the major villages and beaches on the island (sometimes requiring a change in Fira). Tickets are purchased on board and range from €1.80 to €2.50 per traveler during the day, depending on the route. Night buses (12:30 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.) run less often and cost a little more, from €2.30 to €3.10). Buses can become very crowded, particularly during the high season, so much that they regularly reach full capacity and cannot take on more passengers. There are only 23 public buses providing transportation across the island.
  • Transportation options: The closest taxi stand is located at Stathmos Taxi near the Oia Bus Terminal. There is often a wait here as only 25 taxis service the entire island (with guests from approximately 1,000 hotels, villas, and Airbnbs). It is recommended to book ahead to minimize wait times, and you can arrange to be picked up directly from the hotel. There will usually be a small additional charge for advanced reservations and for transporting luggage, usually just a couple of Euros. The average fare from Oia to Fira is €20, and from Oia to the airport is roughly €35 to €40.
  • Motorcycles and scooters: Scooters are mainly how locals get around, but if you`re unfamiliar with the layout, it can be very dangerous. The roads here zigzag up and down hills with narrow lanes and no guardrails or streetlights in most areas. A lot of dirt roads and potholes too.
  • ATVs/Quads: ATVs are an enjoyable and popular method of transportation with visitors, but for the locals required to drive behind them, they maneuver too gradually and hold up traffic in an area where moving around is already challenging. For individuals who don’t routinely ride quads (i.e. most people), they can be risky at high speeds and on turns. Crashed your ATV is a guaranteed way to ruin your vacation.
