Ferries from Santorini to Athens (Piraeus)
The Port of Piraeus in Athens is about 30 minutes away by subway or taxi from central Athens, and is a 4.5 to 6 hour ferry ride from the island of Santorini on the fastest high-speed ferries and catamarans. The slower car ferries and overnight ferries take 7 to 9 hours or more. Most ferries from Santorini to Piraeus also stop at the islands of Naxos and Paros along the way. Some stop at Ios, Mykonos, Foledandros, Milos, Sifnos, and Serifos as well. During the busy season from May to October there are typically 4 to 7 ferries per day between Santorini and Athens. Ferries from Athens to Santorini run with similar frequency but usually earlier in the day. In the slower months there is always at least one ferry per day, with multiple flights year-round as well.
• How to acquire ferry tickets: Ferryhopper.com
• Best seats: I suggest Business or VIP if available (nicer seats in a more relaxed setting)
• Plan to purchase tickets ranging from 2 to 3 months ahead (earlier options may not be accessible yet, and later dates could have no availability)
