Hotel Review

The Oia Castle Luxury Suites provides guests with jacuzzi and pool suites, as well as direct sunset caldera views from the boutique hotel situated under the Oia castle ruins.

Renovated entirely in 2019, Oia Castle Luxury Suites presents 7 suites, each offering a private hot tub, private heated pool, or both. Hot tubs and pools are all fashioned in a cave-style, manually excavated from the cliffside. No two suites are alike, but all are lavishly appointed and include balconies. Service here and at their sister property Aspaki, where guests gain access to the full-sized, heated pool, poolside bar service, and Mediterranean restaurant is top-notch. The hotel is just steps away from Oia’s finest dining, shopping, and activities.

Oia Castle Luxury Suites – Location

Area: Oia Castle Luxury Suites is situated on a footpath underneath the castle ruins, the most famed sunset viewing area in Oia, yet blissfully removed from the crowds. Surrounded by the best dining and shopping on the island, almost everything you need is within a 3 to 8-minute walk.

How to Arrive: The hotel is located along the main pathway to the fortress, but the entrance is hidden. Contact the hotel ahead of time to arrange transportation or to have a staff member meet you in the village of Oia to guide you to the hotel. It is approximately 18km from the Athinios ferry port and the Santorini Airport to the hotel, though they are in different directions.

Public transportation options are available for travelers arriving and departing from the ferry port and airport on Santorini. Buses continually wait at the ferry terminal for each ferry`s arrival and also depart regularly from the airport. However, there is no direct bus transportation from either location to Oia; buses from the port and airport go to Fira first, where passengers must then board a different bus to reach Oia – the total travel time and cost from the port or airport to Oia is approximately one hour and €5. Cash payment is required to purchase tickets onboard the buses. Upon arriving at the Oia Bus Terminal, the hotel is about a 9-minute walk away.

Transportation from the harbor or airport can be obtained through taxis, though only roughly 25 taxis serve the whole island, resulting in potential waits; reserving a ride ahead of time through a private vehicle service such as Welcome Pickups can prevent this. Santorini taxis do not utilize meters, so be sure to agree on a cost with the driver before departing. A taxi from the airport to Oia Castle Luxury Suites will cost approximately €35 to €40. A taxi from the ferry port will cost around €35 to €40 as well. Booking through a private car service will cost a bit extra – around $60 (or €50) – but is worth it to bypass waits and pay in advance.

For those who prefer to self-drive, we suggest renting a vehicle either upon arrival at the airport, or in Fira. The roadway from the ferry port is steep and narrow, with many changeable twists and turns, large trucks, and buses. Leave the navigation to the locals. We strongly recommend reserving a car in advance, especially if you necessitate an automatic transmission. Upon arrival in Oia, there are a couple free public parking areas within a 5 to 10-minute walk of the hotel, but be patient as you may need to check a few lots before finding an vacant space.

Oia Castle Luxury Suites – Local Transport

  • Walking: The hotel is situated in the western portion of Oia underneath the castle ruins, within a brief walking distance to the area’s finest restaurants, shopping, and sights. Ammoudi Bay is accessible via a steep and winding path, simple to descend the 350m down, but laborious going back up; many people taxi rear to the top. This is the pedestrian heart of Oia, and any necessities can be come across within 3 to 8 minutes’ walk.
  • Bus: The Oia Bus Terminal is about 500m away and serves all the major villages and beaches on the island, usually requiring a change in Fira. Tickets are purchased on board and range from €1.80 to €2.50 per person during the day depending on the route. Night buses (12:30 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.) run less regularly and cost a little more, from €2.30 to €3.10. Buses can become very crowded especially in high season, so much that they regularly fill to capacity and cannot accommodate additional passengers. Only 23 public buses serve the island.
  • Taxis: The nearest taxi stand is approximately 500 meters east near the Oia Bus Terminal, but visitors often must wait as only 25 taxis serve the whole island (with guests from about 1,000 hotels, villas, and Airbnbs). Making a reservation in advance can help avoid the wait while allowing selection of a closer pickup location. A small additional fee is typically charged for reservations and luggage transportation, usually just a couple euros. The average fare from Oia to Fira is €20 to €25, while from Oia to the airport is around €40.
  • Motorbikes: Locals commonly use motor scooters as transport, but unfamiliar roads present hazards. Thoroughfares zigzag steeply upwards and downwards on narrow paths sometimes without guardrails or nighttime illumination. Unpaved trails and potholes are common.
  • ATVs/Quads: ATVs are an enjoyable and popular method of transportation with visitors, but for the locals required to drive behind them, they maneuver too gradually and hold up traffic in an area where moving around is already challenging. For individuals who don’t routinely ride quads (i.e. most people), they can be risky at high speeds and on turns. Crashed your ATV is a guaranteed way to ruin your vacation.
