Hotel Review

Absolute Mykonos – Five-star boutique lodge with an endless pool, full-service spa, and stunning sunset views, all within walking distance of Megali Ammos Beach and Mykonos Town.

Absolute Mykonos is a family-operated luxury hotel conveniently positioned near the island’s top dining and nightlife venues, and within walking distance of the beach. Its free-form infinity pool includes a built-in hot tub and spectacular sunset views from the pool deck or bar. The Junior Suites can run on the smaller side, but the hotel provides several spacious suites, like the Absolute Suite with a private hot tub and their distinctive three-level Traditional Windmill suite. Service is always warm and personal. The hotel sits atop a hill, approximately a ten-minute walk to Megali Ammos Beach or to Mykonos Town.

Absolute Mykonos – Location

  • Location: Absolute Mykonos is situated directly above Megali Ammos Beach at the edge of Mykonos Town, approximately a 6 to 12 minute walk from the nightlife, dining, and shopping that have made Mykonos well known. The landmark Kato Mili windmills and the Old Port are accessible within 8 and 11 minutes on foot respectively. The bus stop at Fabrika is only a 4 minute walk away, making it effortless to reach the island’s premier beaches, airport, and ferry port at Tourlos.
  • Access Information: Absolute Mykonos has a very convenient location just off the main road linking Mykonos Town and the airport to southern beaches, making it simple to reach via bus, taxi, or self-driving. It is approximately 5km from the Mykonos ferry terminal in Tourlos, and 3km from the Mykonos Airport to the hotel.

To reach the hotel by taking the transit service from the Airport or the Tourlos Ferry Port (AKA “The New Port”). These airport and ferry port routes operate on numerous occasions throughout the summertime but infrequently (if at all) in the winter. Fabrika, in Mykonos Town, is nearest to the hotel by transit, just a 4-minute walk (350m) away. There is also a transit stop near the Old Port, about 1.5 km from the hotel. The transit from the Airport to Fabrika takes about 15 minutes, while the transit from the New Port to Fabrika takes just under 20 minutes. The walk from Fabrika to Absolute Mykonos is generally along a level route, though the street is narrow and there is a significant amount of traffic. Transit fare should be about €2; tickets are purchased on the transit or from an attended kiosk at the terminal, in cash only.

Taxis are also available from the port or airport, though there are only about 30 taxis serving the whole island, so there is often a long wait; schedule a ride through a private car service in advance to avoid this (I use and recommend Welcome Pickups). Taxis on Mykonos are not metered, so be sure to agree on a price with the driver before setting out. A taxi from the port or airport to Absolute Mykonos will cost roughly €15-20. Booking through a private car service will cost only a bit more – about $38 (or €31), but is worth it to avoid the wait and for the convenience of paying ahead.

For those preferring to drive themselves, we suggest renting a vehicle either upon arrival at the airport or in Mykonos Town. Advance reservations, particularly for automatic transmission, are strongly advised. Absolute Mykonos offers complimentary parking upon guests` arrival at the hotel.

  • Nearby amenities: Megali Ammos Beach. Dining, nightlife, and shopping centers in the Chora. The Windmills of Kato Mili/Little Venice.

Absolute Mykonos – The Basics

  • Age Range: Guests of any age are welcome at the hotel. Most guests typically fall between 25 and 65 years old.
  • Beach: The nearest coastline to Absolute is Megali Ammos. The hotel is located directly above the waters, though it takes roughly 10 minutes to hike down the trail to the ocean. Megali Ammos does not have any organized facilities like beach clubs or rentable lounge chairs. A more developed coast near Ornos is 2.5 km away. This popular beach has golden sand, transparent water, and numerous beach clubs. Ornos Beach as well as other excellent coasts ( Platis Gialos,Paraga,Paradise, and Agios Ioannis) are accessible by transport from neighboring Fabrika.
  • View: The large majority of rooms at Absolute offer sea views. A few junior suites and the 2-bedroom Veranda Suite provide garden or courtyard views, essentially street and village scenery.
  • Private Pools/Jacuzzis: The Absolute Suite and the Windmill Suite both include secluded outdoor jacuzzis.
  • Parking: The lodging offers free parking in their area on-site.
  • Extras: Most bookings incorporate complimentary arrival/separation transfer, incredibly quick wi-fi in each room and all through the lodging, free utilization of the sauna and steam room in the spa, PC on request, concierge, babysitting (extra charge), and 24-hour reception.
  • When making reservations: Absolute Mykonos is open from May through October. Reserve at least 3 months in advance (6 months is preferred) for stays during the high season from June through September, and about 2 months in advance for the low and shoulder seasons.
  • Booking the Hotel: Booking.com is anticipated to provide the most competitive rates.

  • For Disabled Guests: This hotel is spread over a few levels connected by stairs with no elevators. Not suitable for guests with mobility issues.
  • For Families: Absolute Mykonos is suitable for all ages. Family amenities include babysitting (additional fee) and cots for extra guests. Most rooms are designed for 2 guests maximum, but the Spacious Two Bedroom Veranda Suite and the Traditional Windmill Outdoor Jacuzzi can sleep up to 4.

Absolute Mykonos – Food and Drink

  • Restaurant: Absolute’s eatery is open all day from 8 am until 11 pm serving a small multicultural menu of Greek and international snacks, meals, cocktails, and varietals of wine.
  • Lounge/Bar: The poolside bar is open daily from eleven in the morning until midnight nightly, serving superb cocktails alongside beautiful sunset scenery.
  • Morning Meal: A complimentary breakfast is covered in most (though not all) room rates at Absolute. It offers a mix of a chilled buffet as well as a supplementary à la carte menu from seven to eleven am. Even though the restaurant is generally excellent, breakfast is not their strongest suit. One cup of coffee per guest is without cost each morning, yet additional cups require extra payment (highly peculiar policy).
  • Meal Delivery: Meals can be requested during regular dining hours.

Absolute Mykonos – Rooms

  • Room Types: Unique Junior Suite Courtyard View – More than a Junior Suite Sea View – Enjoy Suite Sea View – Supreme Suite Sea View – Spacious Two Bedroom Veranda Suite – Absolute Suite Jacuzzi Sea View – Traditional Windmill Outdoor Jacuzzi
  • Smoking Rooms: Smoking is prohibited in all rooms. Smoking is permitted on private outdoor terraces and in outdoor public spaces.
  • Preferred Accommodation: For couples, highly recommended rooms include the Absolute Suite Jacuzzi Sea View and the Traditional Windmill Outdoor Jacuzzi. The Absolute Suite provides an expansive 55 square meter space along with an indoor hot tub, while the Traditional Windmill suite spreads across 3 floors and includes a private outdoor hot tub. The Traditional Windmill suite allows views of the village, nearby Kato Mili windmills, and the sea in the distance (compared to the Absolute Suite`s direct beachfront perspective), though the windows conform to traditional Cycladic architectural conventions of smaller size.
  • For Families: Two prime options for families involve the Traditional Windmill Outdoor Jacuzzi and the Spacious Two Bedroom Veranda Suite. The Traditional Windmill provides 2 bedrooms containing queen-sized beds and 2 bathrooms spread across 3 levels with ocean views, while the Spacious Two Bedroom features 1 king and 2 singles confined to one floor with 50 sqm of interior space and garden/courtyard scenery.

Absolute Mykonos – Local Transport

  • Ambulation: The accommodation is placed on the southern edge of Mykonos Town atop a hill overlooking Megali Ammos Beach. Absolute is within 500 meters of the heart of the village (Chora) and all of the island’s premier dining, nightlife, and shopping options, and approximately 600 meters from the coastline. Little Venice and the windmills are 800 meters away, the Old Port is one kilometer distant, and 2 excellent viewpoints for sunsets are nearby at Boni’s windmill (800m) and 180° Sunset Bar (1.5 km uphill). The route to and from the town lacks a sidewalk and experiences significant automobile traffic, so exercise caution when walking, especially at night. That said, most individuals do ambulate in this area, so motorists are accustomed to sharing the space with pedestrians here.
  • Coach: Absolute Mykonos is near 2 coach stops. The closest halt is at Fabrika, a 4-minute walk (350m) away, which serves the New Harbor (Tourlos), Airport, and the beaches at Ornos, Agios Ioannis, Platis Gialos, Paradise, and Paraga. There is also a coach stop at the far end of the Old Harbor (1.5 km) that goes to the New Harbor (Tourlos), Ano Mera village, and the beaches at Kalafati, Agios Stefanos, Kalo Livadi, Elia, and Panormos. There is no coach connecting Fabrika and the coach station at the Old Harbor; it takes about 15 minutes (1 km) to walk from one to the other. Tickets cost from €1.60 to €2.30, depending on the destination. Coaches can get very crowded, especially during the peak season, so much so that they often fill to capacity and are unable to take on more passengers. There are only 26 public coaches serving the island. Coach schedules change every couple of weeks, so check the KTEL website for the most current timetables.
  • Taxi: The closest taxi stand is at Fabrika next to the bus stop, about a 4-minute walk (300m) from the hotel, but generally there are fewer taxis traveling through this area than at the main taxi stand, which is roughly 1.5 km away, near the Old Port, behind the Cosmote building and adjacent to the post office. There is almost always a wait at either taxi stand as only 30 taxis serve the entire island. Booking ahead can help avoid the wait, and have the driver meet you at the hotel instead. There will be a surcharge for advanced reservations (about €5) and for carrying luggage, usually just a couple of Euros. A taxi from the port or airport to Absolute Mykonos should be around €15-20.
  • Waterway Transport: The New and Old Ports and several beaches are connected through an aquatic transportation system. The Sea Bus links the New Port and Old Port with routes running about every 30 minutes, all wheelchair accessible, and all €2 one-way per individual, while a Delos roundtrip costs €20. Water taxis also connect the southern beaches, with routes connecting the primary beaches at Ornos and Platis Gialos with the more distant beaches at Paraga, Paradise, Super Paradise,Agrari, and Elia. An all-day, all-beach pass costs €20.
  • Motorized vehicles: Scooters serve as the primary mode of transportation for locals, while all-terrain vehicles or ATVs hold great popularity among tourists, but for those unaccustomed to the landscape, these can prove to be highly hazardous to operate. The roads on the Greek island of Mykonos weave in zigzag patterns, travel up and down hills, squeeze through narrow passages, and contain many potholes, sometimes constituting dirt paths, with most regions outside of Mykonos Town lacking street lights. Plus there are aggressively reckless drivers to contend with, some of the world`s worst. Renting a car presents a much safer choice than a scooter or ATV, while likewise granting easy access to remote beaches across the island.
