Naxos Hotels – Tips & Recommendations

  • Naxos is a marvelous island – one of my favorites – and has a bit of everything: Excellent beaches, incredible cuisine, lots of history, enchanting Greek villages, wonderful hiking, and even a little nightlife (but nothing crazy).
  • Where To Stay in Naxos: The town of Naxos and Agios Georgios Beach offer a suitable combination of exploring beaches, inland villages during the day, and returning to Naxos Town (Chora) for evenings. Naxos Town has excellent dining and bars with modest activity. Of course, lodging directly on one of Naxos` fantastic beaches has clear attractions, while staying in small villages ensures an authentic experience.
  • The beach situated closest to Naxos Town is Agios Georgios Beach, also known as St. George Beach. It has fine sand and is very kid-friendly with its gentle slope and calm waters. Moving southward along the coast unveils progressively quieter settings and higher quality sand. Some of the finest beaches on Naxos include Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, Plaka, and Mikri Vigla.
  • Highly Recommended Lodgings in Naxos: ELaiolithos Luxury RetreatNissakiKavos Boutique Hotel
  • Best New Hotel in Naxos: Ayiopetra Exclusive Getaways
  • Two of the best cheap hotels in Naxos are the Saint Vlassis Hotel and the Pension Sofi

  • The top Naxos Town restaurants are Nostimon Hellas, To Elliniko, and Doukato. Nightlife in Naxos doesn`t extend far past midnight but a few fun bars near the port lanes invite discovery well into the night.

Where should I stay on Naxos?

Naxos Town is one of the most charming hamlets on the Greek islands and makes an excellent base for exploring the island. The bus service on Naxos is quite good so you don’t need to rent a car if you don’t want to. Naxos Town serves as the hub of the island’s bus network so staying here allows you to get anywhere on the island without changing buses. Naxos Town is also where the ferries arrive and depart. Numerous hotels are within walking distance from the port, though taxis are available if you have a lot of baggage.

When is the best time to visit Naxos?

The climate on Naxos is perfect from late May until early October (the water is at its warmest in July, August, and early September). The busiest time on Naxos is from early July until late August but Naxos never feels overwhelmed by tourists like some other islands. It’s large enough to absorb the crowds without feeling crazy busy.

When should I book hotels in Naxos?

The best lodging is completely booked for July and August by March or April. You should generally be able to find a hotel but you might need to compromise on location and amenities. Outside of the peak season showing up without a reservation is not an issue – though you’ll still probably find better rates by booking online.

What are the best beaches on Naxos?

a sandy beach with a body of water

The finest beaches on Naxos are Agios Georgios Beach, Agios Prokopios, Agia Anna, Plaka, and Mikri Vigla. Each of these coastlines are effortlessly attainable from Naxos Town. It’s a five-minute stroll from Naxos Town to Agios Georgios Beach and a 15 to 30-minute bus ride from Naxos Town to most others. When Naxos experiences strong winds, the breezes usually blow from the north making these beaches on the southwest side of the island sheltered from the harshest gusts..
