Hotel Review

Katikies Mykonos – An adults-only luxury hotel with wellness facilities, two fine dining spots, and pools overlooking Agios Ioannis Beach near the island of Delos.

Katikies Mykonos is a refined escape with romantic rooms and suites, all with private terraces and most with outdoor hot tubs or pools. The culinary program is exceptional with plenty of variety: an Anatolian fine dining restaurant, a Greek-Asian fusion restaurant with a champagne bar, and a casual pool bar serving cold drinks and sushi. The infinity pools offer different experiences too, with a peaceful, sandy-bottom pool and a second, lively pool with an all-day DJ. Katikies’ lavish spa offers holistic therapies based on Mediterranean traditions. Nestled above tranquil Agios Ioannis Beach, the hotel is just a short walk to the sand and sea as well as a handful of delightful restaurants and beach clubs)..

Katikies Mykonos – Location

  • Area: Katikies Mykonos sits upon a hilltop above Agios Ioannis, a minute`s walk to beach restaurants and clubs. A 8 minute walk along the coast discloses Kapari Beach, a secluded clothing-optional beach ideal for swimming, snorkeling and sunsets. Katikies Mykonos lies 10 minutes by foot from the bus stop to Mykonos Town.
  • Reaching the Destination: The hotel is situated on the main road connecting Agios Ioannis to Mykonos Town, making it easy to access by vehicle, bus, or taxi. It lies approximately 8 km from the Mykonos ferry terminal in Tourlos and 5 km from the Mykonos Airport to the property.

To arrive at the hotel by bus, take the Fabrika-bound transportation from the Airport or the Tourlos Ferry Port (AKA “The New Port”). These airport and ferry port routes run several times daily throughout the summer but infrequently (if at all) in the winter season. Exit at Fabrika in Mykonos Town, and catch another bus to Agios Ioannis. The bus from the Airport or Ferry Port to Fabrika should take approximately 10 minutes, and the bus from Fabrika to Agios Ioannis should take about 10 minutes. The total journey should cost about €4 and take under an hour, contingent on how long you await at Fabrika for the Agios Ioannis bus. Tickets are purchased (with cash only) on the bus or from an attended kiosk at the terminal. Buses typically operate about every 30 minutes during summer peak hours and less regularly at night, in the early morning, and in winter. It is approximately a 10-minute walk from the bus stop.

Vehicles for hire are also available from the port or airport, though there are only about 30 serving the whole island, so there is often a lengthy wait time; schedule a ride through a private transportation provider in advance to avoid this (I use and recommend Welcome Pickups). Vehicles on Mykonos do not use meters to calculate fares, so be sure to agree on a price with the driver before departing. A vehicle from the airport or ferry port to Katikies Mykonos will cost roughly €20 to €25. Booking through a private transportation provider will cost only slightly more – about $38 (or €31), but is worthwhile to avoid the wait and for the convenience of prepayment.

For those preferring to drive themselves, we suggest renting a vehicle either upon arrival at the airport or in Mykonos Town. Advance reservations, particularly for automatic transmission, are strongly advised. Katikies Mykonos offers complimentary parking upon guests` arrival at the hotel.

Katikies Mykonos – Local Transport

  • Walking: Katikies Mykonos sits on a hilltop about a minute’s walk from Agios Ioannis Beach and a handful of restaurants and beach clubs. Clothing-optional Kapari Beach is just an 8-minute walk away with unobstructed sunset views toward Delos Island. Ornos Beach, among the best beaches on the island, is also within walking distance, about a 20-minute walk away (no sidewalks). From Ornos Beach, you can catch the water taxi to most of the island’s southern beaches.
  • Public transportation: The nearest public transportation stop to Katikies Mykonos is just a 10-minute walk away. Vehicles from here go to Ornos then continue on to Mykonos Town, where travelers can disembark at Fabrika and walk to Little Venice, the Old Port, and all of the Chora. At Fabrika, travelers can also catch a second vehicle to the New Port (Tourlos Ferry Port), Airport, and the beaches at Platis Gialos,Paradise, and Paraga. Or travelers can exit at Fabrika and walk to the Old Port to catch transportation to the New Port, Ano Mera village, and the beaches at Kalafati, Agios Stefanos, Kalo Livadi, Elia, and Panormos. There is no public transportation connecting Fabrika and the station at the Old Port; it takes approximately 15 minutes to walk from one location to the other. Fares range from €1.60 to €2.30 depending on the destination. Vehicles can become extremely crowded, particularly during high season, so much so that they regularly fill to full capacity and are unable to accommodate additional passengers. There are only 26 public vehicles that serve the island. Schedules change every couple of weeks, so check the KTEL website for the most current timetables.
  • Taxicab: There exists no established taxi stand in Agios Ioannis. The nearest stands can be found in Mykonos Town at Fabrika and the Old Port, thus rendering them rather impractical to access while typically resulting in waits as only 30 cabs serve the full island. As such, booking a taxi in advance is recommended to avoid delays, asking the driver to meet directly at the hotel. Reserved transportation will involve a small additional fee (around €5) as well as per-bag charges usually totaling just a couple euros more. A taxi ride from the airport or ferry terminal to Katikies Mykonos is estimated to cost €20 to €25.
  • Driving in Milan, like any major city with medieval roots, can be complicated due to confusing roads layouts, expensive parking, and vehicle restrictions in popular areas. Fortunately, Milan has Italy`s best public transportation network of subways, buses, and trams to get you almost anywhere desired efficiently. Rideshare services like Uber also operate here along with taxis that usually stop when hailed from the sidewalk. In recent years, bike share programs have sprouted around town as another quick trip option. Often, walking will do just as well though, as Milan`s primary tourist zone is fairly compact – most major attractions are within a 20-minute radius from the Duomo in the city center.

  • Motorized vehicles: Scooters serve as the primary mode of transportation for locals, while all-terrain vehicles or ATVs hold great popularity among tourists, but for those unaccustomed to the landscape, these can prove to be highly hazardous to operate. The roads on the Greek island of Mykonos weave in zigzag patterns, travel up and down hills, squeeze through narrow passages, and contain many potholes, sometimes constituting dirt paths, with most regions outside of Mykonos Town lacking street lights. Plus there are aggressively reckless drivers to contend with, some of the world`s worst. Renting a car presents a much safer choice than a scooter or ATV, while likewise granting easy access to remote beaches across the island.
