Hotel Review

Details were given for the West East Suites hotel: “

West East Suites – Contemporary, all-suite hotel on the caldera with a heated infinity pool, creative Mediterranean restaurant, and private pools or jacuzzis for all suites.

West East Suites is a striking hotel featuring artistic, Cycladic design and clean, minimalistic decor with views to the western caldera and eastern sea throughout the property. Fourteen suites face the caldera with sweeping sunset views; the remaining two face east with sunrise views over the Aegean Sea. Most rooms boast private, outdoor pools, while some feature indoor jacuzzis; the Infinity Suite has both. The on-site restaurant serves elevated Mediterranean fine dining for dinner, and light Greek fare for lunch by the pool, always focusing on locally sourced, seasonal ingredients. The hotel’s talented sommelier has assembled an enviable wine list, and sunset wine tastings are available. Well-situated high on the caldera’s edge just north of Imerovigli in a tranquil environment just a short stroll from the romantic village’s dining and sights.

West East Suites – Location

Location: Heavenly site atop the caldera`s northern end in the village of Imerovigli, elevated highest on the caldera rim with panoramic views spanning Akrotiri to Oia westward and the Aegean eastward. About a 20-minute walk to the heart of the village – easily accessible yet removed from crowds.

How to Get There:
West East Suites is located above the caldera, just off the main road connecting Fira and Oia, making it easily accessible by bus, taxi, or rental vehicle. It is approximately 9 km from the airport to West East Suites, and 12 km from the ferry terminal.

Transportation is regularly accessible at the ferry harbor upon each arrival of boats, just as transports departing every hour from Santorini Airport. There are no direct transports from the port or air terminal specifically to Imerovigli. Transports from both areas go to Fira, where one must then board another transport to Imerovigli – the total outing from the port or air terminal to Imerovigli will take about an hour and cost around €5 altogether. Tickets are purchased on the transport, just in cash. There are transport stops 3 minutes north and 5 minutes south walking from the lodging.

  • Weather in Bora Bora during January: Located only a few degrees south of the equator, Bora Bora benefits from a tropical climate of warm, mild days, sometimes moderated by trade winds from June to August. The hot and rainy season peaks this month, with the second highest monthly rainfall – 270mm (10.5 inches) – and 19 days seeing some precipitation. Expect virtually identical temperatures – around 30°C (86°F) – for this month and the following 3. When the rain stops and the sun emerges, the humidity can become difficult to endure. While less prevalent than its Pacific neighbors, cyclones remain possible from November through April, so check local media, hotel announcements, and the official weather website.

For those who favor self-driving, we recommend leasing a vehicle either at the airport upon arrival, or in Fira. The road from the ferry port is steep and narrow, with many complex hairpin bends, large trucks, and buses. Leave that path for the locals to navigate. We strongly suggest reserving a vehicle in advance, especially if you require automatic transmission. Upon arrival, West East Suites offers free parking onsite.

Nearby to: The trail connecting Oia and Fira (it’s right on the trail), the Santorini Princess hotel and Cavo Tagoo hotel (neighboring hotels with the closest restaurants and bars, about 5 minutes to either)).

  • Fitness Center: No gym.
  • This hotel is located above the caldera without an elevator, though it features fewer stairs than most other properties in the area. However, for those with moderate limitations who do not need assistance devices, the Superior Pool Suites and Infinity Suite offer good alternatives.
  • For Families: West East Suites is open to guests over age 13. Guests under 13 are not allowed on the premises as there are no specific amenities or facilities for children. Families with a maximum of 4 people can book the Junior, Executive, Royal, or Infinity Suites though all suites have an open floor plan meaning there is limited privacy when multiple guests share a suite.
  • Activities: The hotel provides a wonderful grape tasting experience on location, showcasing Santorini wines and a seasoned sommelier. The talented concierge team can arrange a variety of activities, like sunset cruises, helicopter tours of the island, wine tours, trips to the Akrotiri ruins, and much more.

  • Breakfast: Complimentary a la carte breakfast is served daily either at the restaurant or on your private terrace at the time of your choosing from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Exceptional variety and quality.
  • Room Service: Available daily from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

West East Suites – Rooms

  • Room Types: Junior Suite • Deluxe Suite • Executive Loft • Superior Pool Suite • Royal Suite • Infinity Suite
  • Smoking Rooms: The hotel does not allow smoking in any of its rooms. Smoking is permitted on the private terraces and in the outdoor common areas.
  • Best Room: The Infinity Suite is considered the premier suite on the property featuring an infinity pool encircling a private sun terrace and an indoor jacuzzi, a spacious bedroom with a king bed, a separate living room, and 2 bathrooms with showers.
  • For Families: Guests aged 13 and over are welcome. There are no amenities specifically designed for children. Many suites can accommodate up to 4 guests; larger families will need to book an additional suite. The Infinity Suite, as detailed above, is the best option for families, with 70 square meters of living space, 2 bathrooms with showers, and the largest of the hotel’s private pools. Unlike other suites at the hotel, which are open-plan, this one separates the living room and bedroom by a wall, though there is no door dividing the two spaces.

West East Suites – Local Transport

  • Walking: The hotel is situated alongside the footpath connecting Oia and Fira at the northern end of Imerovigli. The closest dining establishments are at the neighboring hotels, Cavo Tagoo and Santorini Princess, merely a 5 minute stroll away. Walk south to enter central Imerovigli village; all of the restaurants, shops, and attractions in the village are within a range of 17 to 25 minutes on foot from the hotel.
  • Bus: The nearest bus stops are along the main Fira-Oia road, a brief 3-minute walk north or 5-minute walk south from the hotel with routes heading up to Oia or down to Imerovigli village, Firostefani, and Fira. Once in Fira you can change buses to access all other major villages and beaches on the island. Tickets range from €1.80 to €2.50 per person in the day depending on the route. Night buses (12:30 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.) run less regularly and cost a little more, from €2.30 to €3.10. Buses can become very crowded, especially during high season, sometimes to capacity and unable to admit more passengers. Only 23 public buses serve the island.
  • Vehicles for hire: The closest location to obtain a taxi is at Stathmos Taxi, which is located all the way down in Fira, making it impractical to travel there on foot or via public transportation. Additionally, there is often a wait here as only 25 taxis serve the entire island with guests from about 1,000 hotels, villas, and Airbnbs. It is advisable to make a reservation ahead of time to avoid the wait and have the taxi pick you up directly from the hotel. A small additional charge applies for advance bookings and for carrying luggage, usually just a couple of Euros. The approximate rate from Imerovigli to Fira is roughly €10, to the airport is €25 to €30, and to the ferry port is around €30.
  • Motorbikes: Locals commonly use motor scooters as transport, but unfamiliar roads present hazards. Thoroughfares zigzag steeply upwards and downwards on narrow paths sometimes without guardrails or nighttime illumination. Unpaved trails and potholes are common.
  • ATVs/Quads: ATVs are an enjoyable and popular method of transportation with visitors, but for the locals required to drive behind them, they maneuver too gradually and hold up traffic in an area where moving around is already challenging. For individuals who don’t routinely ride quads (i.e. most people), they can be risky at high speeds and on turns. Crashed your ATV is a guaranteed way to ruin your vacation.
