Hotel Review

The Absolute Bliss in Imerovigli, Santorini is a romantic hotel with cave-style suites and villas, swimming pool, and breathtaking caldera views. It can be found at this link.

This charming boutique hotel offers a variety of rooms, lodgings, and villas, all with stunning views overlooking the caldera in Imerovigli at sunset. Accommodations are cave-like yet sunlit, and all units are completely distinctive, since they are all hand-carved into the cliff face. Except one room category, all offer a personal jacuzzi or heated pool. Their small shared pool is perched on the caldera`s edge with gorgeous views and ample sun loungers. Breakfast is provided and served to the room, while lunch and dinner can be brought poolside or as in-room service. Staff is personal, friendly, and incredibly hands-on to ensure that each stay is unforgettable.

Absolute Bliss – Location

This hotel sits in an incredibly scenic location in the heart of Imerovigli village, with numerous dining spots and attractions all within a 15 minute walk. Imerovigli rests at the highest elevation on the caldera rim, providing remarkable perspectives from each room and around the hotel.

How to Get There:
The hotel sits above the caldera in Imerovigli village, not far off the main road connecting Fira and Oia, making it conveniently reachable by bus, taxi, or self-driving. It is approximately 8km from the Santorini Airport to Absolute Bliss, and 12km from the ferry port.

Public transportation options in the form of buses are consistently available at the ferry port upon every ferry arrival, as well as buses departing hourly from Santorini Airport. While there are no direct buses traveling straight from the port or airport to Imerovigli, buses from both locations go to Fira, where passengers must then board another bus to reach Imerovigli – the entire trip from the port or airport to Imerovigli will take approximately one hour and cost about €5 total. Tickets can be purchased on the bus using cash only. The bus stop is just 5 minutes away on foot, and the walk from there to the hotel is mostly level ground, easy to navigate while transporting luggage.

Transport services like taxis can be arranged from the port or airport, though there are only approximately 25 taxis total serving the whole island, so lengthy wait times are common; reserving a ride through a private car service ahead of time can help bypass this delay (I personally utilize and endorse Welcome Pickups). Taxis on Santorini do not use meters, so be sure to settle on a price with the driver prior to departing. A taxi from the airport to Absolute Bliss should cost approximately €25 to €30 euro, and a taxi from the ferry port around €30 euro. Scheduling transport through a private car service will only be a bit more expensive – about $45 (or €37), but is worth it to avoid waiting and for the convenience of prepaying.

  • Beach: The closest shore is Exo Gialos, a tranquil, black sand beach with strangely shaped cliffs sculpted by wind at its southern end. The top beach bar and restaurant there is East Breeze, just a few meters from the cliffs. The northern end has a small harbor and another superb beach bar and restaurant called Yalos. From the hotel, it’s a short 5 km drive to the north end or 7 km to the south end, where the cliffs are.
  • View: Overlooking the caldera with excellent sunset perspectives from the rooms and throughout the hotel.
  • Personal Pools/Hot Tubs: With the exception of the standard Classic Double Room, all other rooms offer private jacuzzis or pools for exclusive use. The Classic Double Room with Hot Tub and the lavish Suites feature outdoor hot tubs; Junior Suites include indoor jacuzzis; Honeymoon Suites have indoor and outdoor hot tubs; and the Absolute Luxury Spa Villa boasts an outdoor heated swimming pool.

  • Best Room: Their top category is the Absolute Luxury Spa Villa. This spacious 1-bedroom accommodation is 80 square meters with a king bed, separate living area, steam shower with light therapy, jetted tub for two persons, and a private, heated swimming pool on its spacious veranda.
  • For Families: This hotel caters solely to adult guests aged 16 or older. No rooms can accommodate children or more than 2 people.

Absolute Bliss – Local Transport

  • Walking: The hotel is situated in the center of Imerovigli with views of the caldera and access to the Oia-Fira walking trail, and the village`s top dining spots, shops and attractions just meters away. Easy access to all eats and attractions in Imerovigli as well as the nightlife and shopping in Fira, just a 30-minute stroll south.
  • Coach: The closest bus stop is situated in the village of Imerovigli, which is reachable via a five-minute walk from the hotel. Transport choices here serve all of the major towns and beaches across the island, regularly necessitating a changeover in Fira. Fares can be obtained on board and range from €1.80 to €2.50 for each passenger during the day, contingent on the route selected. Nighttime buses (12:30 a.m. to 5:00 a.m.) operate less regularly and cost a bit more, from €2.30 to €3.10. Coaches may become overcrowded significantly, especially amid the peak season, to such an extent that full occupancy is often achieved and further passengers cannot be accommodated. There are only 23 public coaches serving the entire island.
  • Taxis: The nearest taxi stand is at Stathmos Taxi, farthest down in Fira, so not very practical to walk or bus to. Additionally, there is often a wait here as only 25 taxis serve the entire island (like guests from about 1,000 hotels, villas, and Airbnbs). Book ahead to avoid the wait, and have them meet you directly at the hotel. There will be a slight additional charge for advanced reservations, and for carrying luggage, usually just a couple of Euros. The average rate from Imerovigli to Fira is roughly €15, and from Imerovigli to the airport or port is around €25 to €35.
  • Motorized Transportation: Scooters are the primary mode of transportation for locals, yet unfamiliar terrain makes their operation risky. Roads zigzag and climb hills at steep angles with sheer drops lacking guardrails or nighttime lighting in most areas. Numerous dirt paths and sunken sections are present.
  • ATVs/Quads: ATVs are an enjoyable and popular method of transportation with visitors, but for the locals required to drive behind them, they maneuver too gradually and hold up traffic in an area where moving around is already challenging. For individuals who don’t routinely ride quads (i.e. most people), they can be risky at high speeds and on turns. Crashed your ATV is a guaranteed way to ruin your vacation.
