Best Place in Santorini for First-Time Visitors: Fira
The primary city of Santorini, Fira serves as the central hub for all social, commercial, and transportation needs of the island. It represents the largest town located on the caldera. Without end, restaurants, bars, shops, and churches featuring iconic domes and bell towers are cleverly arranged into the cliffside creating a picturesque maze of narrow lanes and staircases offering sweeping views over the caldera, especially beautiful at sunset. Places to discover include The Archaeological Museum of Thera,The Museum of Prehistoric Thera, Gyzi Megaron (Gizi Mansion), and the landmark Holy Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral positioned on the chief pedestrian path at the top of the caldera. Some of the island’s finest restaurants are found here, prepared to serve regional specialties, including fava, tomatokeftedes, and naturally Santorinian wine. All of Santorini’s nightclubs (and most of its bars) can be located here, with upscale cocktail lounges on the caldera and louder pubs and dance clubs tangled within backstreets. Fira also gives home to the primary bus station; all bus routes initiate and conclude here. If plans do not involve renting a car, Fira undoubtedly offers the optimum place to lodge to get out and explore the red and black beaches, wine country, historical ruins, and traditional towns
As you can see, SafetyWing is the most affordable choice, but it incorporates a $250 deductible per claim, even if you report several claims on the equal journey. Also, remember that SafetyWing doesn’t cover your medical costs upfront, so you’ll have to pay out of pocket, then register a claim for reimbursement.
Fira for First-Timers
- One of the most affordable hotels in Fira is the Kavalari Hotel. Additional budget-friendly options include the San Giorgio and Costa Marina Villa.
Just west of the transportation route that separates the western section from the city center, Finnieston extends along the northern bank of the River Clyde, and is bordered by Kelvingrove to the north. Finnieston’s identifying feature is the unused crane that represents Glasgow’s past shipbuilding industry. While excellent river views can be had from the riverside walking and cycling paths, the primary attractions are the distinguished Riverside Museum and the Tall Ship Glenlee that houses Glasgow’s maritime collection, both situated near the combination of River Clyde and River Kelvin. The Finnieston section of Argyle Street features some of Glasgow’s best dining establishments, as well as the city’s finest traditional pubs, and the western area in general is particularly suitable for Indian cuisine. (Residents of Glasgow enjoy a good curry.)
