Hotel Review

Petasos Beach Resort & Spa – Family-oriented, luxury hotel with a private beachfront, saltwater pool overlooking the sea, and an extensive spa and wellness center, all just steps from Platis Gialos Beach.

Petasos offers various room, suite, and villa accommodations all with private terraces or balconies, most providing sea views. Most lodgings feature indoor hot tub baths; higher-tier rooms, suites, and villas add outdoor hot tubs, semi-private pools, or private infinity pools. The largest suite can sleep up to a dozen guests. The hotel boasts its own secluded, serviced beach (with a lifeguard) along with convenient walking access to two of Mykonos` most beloved beaches, Platis Gialos and Psarou. The extensive 500-square-meter spa provides solo, couples’, full-day, and multi-day treatment packages. Dining is always spectacular at VIP (Asian-Greek fusion, fine dining) and Le Club (Mediterranean, casual) restaurants, plus poolside and beachfront refreshments available throughout the day. Convenient location in front of the bus stop with service to Mykonos Town and just meters from the water taxi connecting the south coast beaches).

Petasos Beach Resort & Spa – Location

  • Location: Petasos Beach Resort is situated between two magnificent coastlines, Platis Gialos and Psarou. Platis Gialos, the island’s most popular beach, is merely a 1-minute downhill stroll and lined with restaurants and rentals of sunbeds. Here you’ll find the water taxi to the southern beaches from Ornos in the west to Elia in the east. A approximate 13-minute walk along a seaside footpath leads to Psarou Beach, known for its upscale beach clubs, lavish shopping center, and tranquil waters sheltered from Mykonos’ infamous winds. This is one of the few southern beaches not connected to the water taxi or bus route, which helps keep the group thinner, though do expect to pay more at the beach club for the exclusiveness.
  • Reaching the Hotel: The hotel can be easily accessed by car, bus, or taxi as it located along the main road connecting the beach to Mykonos Town. It is roughly 8 kilometers from the ferry port in Tourlos, and 4 kilometers from the airport on Mykonos. The walking distance between the transportation hubs and lodging is moderate.
  • To arrive at the hotel by bus from the airport or Tourlos Ferry Port (also known as “The New Port”), take the Fabrika bound bus that leaves from both locations. During the summer months there are multiple trips each day but rarely any (if ever) in the winter. Exit at Fabrika in Mykonos Town and transfer to a second bus travelling to Platis Gialos Beach. It should take approximately 10 minutes on each bus segment. So the total travel time should be under an hour depending on how long you wait at the transfer point, for around €4 total cost. Tickets can be purchased directly on the vehicles or from an employee manned kiosk. Buses run every half hour during peak summer seasons with less frequent scheduling overnight, early mornings and winter. Petasos is a minute or less walk from the Platis Gialos bus stop; it is directly in front of the hotel.
Taxis are also available from the port or airport, though only about 30 taxis serve the entire island, so waiting can be lengthy; it`s best to schedule a pickup in advance through a private transport service to avoid delays (I use and recommend
Welcome Pickups). Taxis on Mykonos do not use meters, so be sure to agree on a price with the driver before departing. A taxi ride from the airport or ferry terminal to Petasos Beach Resort should cost around €20 to €25. Booking via a private transport company costs a bit more—about $38 (€31)—but it`s worth it to avoid waits and for convenience of pre-paying.

For those preferring to drive independently, we recommend renting a vehicle either upon arrival at the airport or in Mykonos Town. We strongly advise reserving transportation ahead of time, especially if an automatic transmission is needed. Petasos offers free parking for guests.

  • Close to: Platis Gialos Beach, Psarou Beach (a short walk along the coastpath from the hotel to the beach), Nammos Village shopping (via the beachside walking path).

Petasos Beach Resort & Spa – Local Transport

  • Walking: Petasos Beach Resort & Spa sits along the main road connecting Mykonos Town to Platis Gialos and Psarou Beaches. Walking downhill for just a minute leads to Platis Gialos Beach, where public transportation stops every half hour to Mykonos Town and water taxis to the south coast beaches from Ornos in the west to Elia in the east. Platis Gialos is one of Mykonos’ most popular beaches with golden sand and clear blue water, lined with restaurants, beach clubs, and a few shops. From the hotel, there is a walking path northwest along the coast to Psarou Beach. The walk should take a little over 10 minutes.
  • Public transportation: The nearest bus stop to Petasos Beach Resort & Spa is directly adjacent to the hotel as indicated by this link. During peak season, the bus runs roughly every half hour during busy periods and less regularly in early mornings or late nights. Buses from here travel to Mykonos Town, where passengers can disembark at Fabrika and walk to Little Venice, the Old Port area, and all of the Chora district. At Fabrika, travelers can also catch a second bus to the New Port (Tourlos Ferry Port), Airport, as well as beaches like Agios Ioannis,Paradise, and Paraga (though walking to Paraga may be quicker). Alternatively, individuals can disembark at Fabrika and walk to the Old Port bus stop to catch a bus to the New Port, Ano Mera village, and beaches such as Kalafati, Agios Stefanos, Kalo Livadi, Elia, and Panormos. There is no bus connecting the Fabrika bus station and the Old Port bus station; it takes approximately 15 minutes (1 km) to travel between the two on foot. Fares range from €1,60 to €2,30 based on the destination. Buses can become very crowded, especially during peak season, so much so that they regularly reach full capacity and cannot accommodate any additional passengers. There are only 26 public buses serving the island. Bus schedules change every couple weeks, so check the KTEL website for the most updated timetables.
  • Taxi: Taking a taxi is not simple in Platis Gialos. The official taxi stops are in Mykonos Town at Fabrika and the Old Port, so reaching them takes time, plus lines usually form at both places since only 30 taxis serve the whole island. It is best to schedule a taxi in advance to avoid waiting, and have the driver meet you directly at the hotel. Booking ahead results in a small additional cost (around €5) and transporting baggage normally incurs a couple euros extra fee. A taxi from the airport or ferry terminal to Petasos Beach Resort & Spa would likely be €20 to €25.
  • Water Transportation: The Old and New Harbors along with several beaches are connected through a boat system. Water taxis connect the southern beaches, with routes running between the primary beaches at Ornos and Platis Gialos (at the western end of the beach) to the more distant beaches at Paraga, Paradise, Super Paradise,Agrari, and Elia. An all-day, all-beach pass costs €20. The SeaBus connects the New Port and Old Port with routes running about every 30 minutes, all wheelchair accessible, and all €2 one-way per person.
  • Motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles: Motorcycles are commonly used by locals as transportation, and all-terrain vehicles are very popular among visitors, but if you`re unfamiliar with the terrain, operating them can be very hazardous. The roads on Mykonos zigzag and wind up and down hills, are narrow, filled with potholes, sometimes dirt roads, and have few streetlights outside of Mykonos Town. And that`s not taking into account the aggressive nature of some drivers, considered among the worst in the world. Renting a car is a much safer option than a motorcycle or all-terrain vehicle and just as capable of reaching the more remote beaches on the island.
