The hotel website and the prices for Le Meurice

Tharroe of Mykonos is a luxurious hotel positioned on a hillside overlooking the sea, featuring well-appointed living spaces, all with private patios or balconies, and some with interior jacuzzi baths. On-site features include a pool and jacuzzi with bar service, an award-winning restaurant, full-service spa, and wine cellar with tastings. Perks include an attentive staff, round-the-clock room service, and complimentary arrival and departure transfers. On the hotel grounds, there is an ancient tomb of a Mycenaean queen dating back to the second century BC, which was later used as a lookout point by the pirate Barbarossa).

Tharroe of Mykonos – Location

  • Area: Tharroe of Mykonos rests upon a hill above Megali Ammos Beach at the fringe of Mykonos Town, about a 13 to 19-minute walk from the nightlife, dining, and attractions that have made Mykonos famous. The landmark Kato Mili windmills and the Old Port are accessible inside a 17 or 19-minute walk respectively. There is an unofficial bus stop facing the hotel with buses headed toward Mykonos Town and Ornos passing by about every half hour or so. The official bus station at Fabrika is only a 13 minutes’ walk away, allowing it to be an easy reach to the island’s best shores, airport, and ferry port at Tourlos.
  • Accessing the Location: Tharroe of Mykonos provides free transportation for all guests arriving and departing between 9:00 am and 9:00 pm. For arrivals outside of those hours, the hotel is conveniently situated just off the main road connecting Mykonos Town to the airport and southern beaches, allowing easy access via bus, taxi, or personal vehicle. It is approximately 5 km from the ferry port in Tourlos serving Mykonos, and 3 km from the Mykonos Airport to the accommodation.

To reach the hotel by bus, take the Fabrika-bound bus from the Airport or the Tourlos Ferry Port (AKA “The New Port”). These airport and ferry port routes run several times daily throughout the summer but infrequently (if ever) in the winter. Fabrika, in Mykonos Town, is the closest official bus stop to the hotel, just 1 km away. On the same route, there is an unofficial bus stop directly in front of the hotel; inform the driver when boarding that you want to exit at Tharroe. The bus from the Airport to Tharroe bus stop takes approximately 17 minutes, while the bus from the New Port to the Tharroe stop takes around 22 minutes. Both trips cost about €2; tickets are purchased on board the bus or from a staffed kiosk at the terminal, paid for in cash only.

Taxis are also available for transport from the port or airport, though there are only approximately 30 taxis serving the entire island, so waits are often long. It is advisable to pre-schedule rides through private car services to avoid delays (I use and recommend Welcome Pickups). Taxis on Mykonos do not utilize meters, so be sure to agree on a set price with the driver before departing. A taxi from the port or airport to Tharroe of Mykonos will typically cost somewhere in the range of €15-20. Booking through a private car service will cost only slightly more at around $38 (or €31), but is worthwhile to avoid waits and for the convenience of prepaying.

For individuals who prefer self-driving, we suggest renting a vehicle either at the airport upon arrival or in Mykonos Town. We strongly advise making reservations in advance, especially if an automatic transmission is needed. Upon check-in at the hotel, Tharroe of Mykonos provides free parking (a major perk).

  • Nearby amenities: Megali Ammos Beach. Dining, nightlife, and shopping centers in the Chora. The Windmills of Kato Mili/Little Venice.

The Panorama Two Bedroom Suite offers the finest views plus a personal outdoor hot tub.

The best choice for families is the Panorama Two Bedroom Suite, which can be prepared with 2 queen beds or 1 queen and 2 singles. This suite puts forward a separate living area, 2 bathrooms (one with a jetted bathtub), expansive patio, and confidential outdoor jacuzzi with sweeping sea outlooks.

Tharroe of Mykonos – Local Transport

  • Walking: The hotel is located just south of Mykonos Town on a hill overlooking the sea near Megali Ammos Beach. Tharroe of Mykonos is about a 1 km to Megali Ammos beach and about a 12-minute stroll of the village (Chora), where you’ll find most of the island’s best dining, nightlife, and shopping. Little Venice and the windmills and the Old Port are 1.5 km away, and 2 excellent sunset viewpoints are nearby at Boni’s windmill (1.5 km) and 180° Sunset Bar (2 km). The road to and from town does not have a sidewalk and is pretty busy with cars, so exercise caution when walking, especially at night. That said, most people do walk in this area, so drivers are used to sharing the space with pedestrians here.
  • Public transportation: Tharroe of Mykonos is located near two stops for buses. There is an unofficial stop directly in front of the hotel that provides routes into Mykonos Town and Ornos. The closest scheduled stop is at Fabrika, 1 kilometer away, serving the New Port (Tourlos), Airport, and beaches at Ornos, Agios Ioannis, Platis Gialos, Paradise, and Paraga. A third bus stop is at the far end of the Old Port (2 kilometers), considered the island`s primary station, traveling to the New Port (Tourlos), Ano Mera village, and beaches at Kalafati, Agios Stefanos, Kalo Livadi, Elia, and Panormos. No bus connects Fabrika with the station at the Old Port; it takes approximately 15 minutes (1 kilometer) by foot between the two locations. Ticket prices range from €1.60 to €2.30 depending on the destination. Buses can become very crowded especially during peak season, often filling capacity without room for additional passengers. Only 26 public buses serve the island. Schedules change every couple weeks, so check the local transit authority website for current timetables.
  • Taxi: The closest taxi stand is at Fabrika next to the bus stop, approximately one kilometer from the hotel, but there are generally fewer taxis traveling through this area than at the main taxi stand, which is around 2 km away, near the Old Port, behind the Cosmote building, and adjacent to the post office. There is almost always a wait at either taxi stand as there are only 30 taxis serving the entire island. Book ahead to avoid the wait, and have the driver meet you at the hotel instead. There will be a surcharge for advanced reservations (about €5) and for carrying luggage, usually just a couple of euros. A taxi from the port or airport to Tharroe of Mykonos should be about €15, and a taxi from the ferry port to Tharroe of Mykonos should be about €15 to €20.
  • Driving in Milan, like any major city with medieval roots, can be complicated due to confusing roads layouts, expensive parking, and vehicle restrictions in popular areas. Fortunately, Milan has Italy`s best public transportation network of subways, buses, and trams to get you almost anywhere desired efficiently. Rideshare services like Uber also operate here along with taxis that usually stop when hailed from the sidewalk. In recent years, bike share programs have sprouted around town as another quick trip option. Often, walking will do just as well though, as Milan`s primary tourist zone is fairly compact – most major attractions are within a 20-minute radius from the Duomo in the city center.

  • Motorized vehicles: Scooters serve as the primary mode of transportation for locals, while all-terrain vehicles or ATVs hold great popularity among tourists, but for those unaccustomed to the landscape, these can prove to be highly hazardous to operate. The roads on the Greek island of Mykonos weave in zigzag patterns, travel up and down hills, squeeze through narrow passages, and contain many potholes, sometimes constituting dirt paths, with most regions outside of Mykonos Town lacking street lights. Plus there are aggressively reckless drivers to contend with, some of the world`s worst. Renting a car presents a much safer choice than a scooter or ATV, while likewise granting easy access to remote beaches across the island.
