Brand new Istoria offers twelve luxurious suites, many featuring private outdoor hot tubs and one with a private pool. The hotel’s design is Cycladic while its décor is inspired by its past as the private villa of a wealthy equestrian; Istoria’s spaces incorporate lava rock, stonework, black sand, leather, and riding gear. The gorgeous infinity pool with its attached hot tub is among the largest on the island, and it is well-served by a fantastic pool bar with inspired mixology, plus local wine and beer. Dining is phenomenal at the signature Mr. E restaurant which features a creative, contemporary Greek menu highlighting locally-sourced ingredients and over-the-top flavors. Istoria’s spa offers a full-service menu of holistic face and body treatments. Service is incredibly warm and attentive)..

Istoria – Location

In the central part of Santorini`s longest stretch of black sand beach, which includes restaurants and beach clubs, lies Istoria. This beach is called Perivolos Beach and is part of Perissa village located between Perissa Beach and Agios Georgios Beach. Istoria is directly on the main road running alongside the beach promenade, making it easy to explore the immediate area and island as a whole, especially the wine region, Fira`s nightlife, and 2 sets of ruins such as the famous Prehistoric Village of Akrotiri as well as the lesser visited Ancient Thera at the top of Mesa Vouno.

How to Get There:
Istoria is situated on the main road along the beach in Perivolos, making travel to and from simple by taxi, personal vehicle, or bus. It is approximately 10km from the Athinios ferry terminal and 13km from the Santorini Airport to the hotel.

There are always vehicles waiting at the ferry landing for each ferry`s arrival, as well as vehicles departing hourly from Santorini Airport. There are no direct vehicles from the port or airport to Perivolos village; vehicles from both locations travel to Fira, where one must then board a different vehicle to Perivolos; the total trip will cost approximately €5 total and require between an hour or 2, based on how long is spent waiting in Fira to catch the Perivolos vehicle. Tickets are purchased on the vehicle, with cash only accepted. The stop for Perivolos is a 5-minute walk from Istoria, just across from Mera Beach Bar.

With its sparkling waters and uniform rows of lounging areas along its entire length, Psarou Beach is one of the island’s most popular locations. It’s a favorite especially with families and newlyweds due to its relaxed vibe, ultra-fine sand, and advantageous placement in a cove sheltered from winds. A minor center for water activities, Psarou Beach sees windsurfers and waterskiers bouncing on the waves further from shore. There are a couple great dining establishments and lodgings here, including Mykonos Blu (foreground) and N Hotel (background), eateries, and the beach is well-served by buses from Mykonos Town.

For those who opt to self-drive, we advise renting a car either upon arrival at the airport, or in Fira. The road from the ferry port is steep and narrow, with many tricky switchbacks, large trucks, and buses. Leave that route for locals to navigate. We strongly suggest booking a vehicle in advance, especially if you require automatic transmission. Upon arrival at Istoria, complimentary parking onsite is offered by the hotel (a major perk).

Istoria – The Basics

  • Ages: This adults-only hotel only accepts guests who are 14 years of age or older. It has no facilities or amenities for children, and no rooms can accommodate more than 3 guests. Typically, the guests are couples celebrating a romantic event.
  • Seville`s former Jewish quarter. The tangled network of narrow roads, alleys so small that you can touch both walls with your hands, tiny plazas dotted with orange trees and whitewashed homes is the medieval heart of Seville. Before the expulsion of Jews from Spain in 1492, Barrio Santa Cruz was the bustling Jewish community, though few signs remain of the vanished population. The small Centro de Interpretación de Judería on Calle Ximénes de Enciso has a few displays on Sephardic Jewish culture and offers maps of the neighborhood indicating formerly Jewish sites. The best way to explore Barrio Santa Cruz is just by getting lost in the streets, kept cool during summer heat by their narrowness and shade. Reasonably priced walking tours are also offered, for those seeking to learn the area’s history from local experts.

  • Scenery: Rooms offer a mix of direct ocean views (Storia and Conte Suites), side ocean views (Rakonto and Saga Suites), or courtyard/pool views (Tarina and Recit Suites). All sea view rooms face east with views over the Aegean Sea, and not the caldera.
  • Private Pools/Jacuzzis: Recit, Conte, and Storia Suites all include private, outdoor jacuzzis. The Tarina Suite includes a private pool.
  • Vehicle Parking: Istoria offers free vehicular storage onsite.
  • Extras: Welcome beverage, welcome room amenities, private beach area, daily maid service, nightly turndown service with surprise treats, 24-hour reception.
  • When to Reserve: The lodging works from right on time May to late October. Book no less than 3 months ahead of time (4 months is superior) for travel amid the high season from June through September. Book no less than 2 months ahead of time for visits amid low or shoulder season.

  • Spa: The hotel provides full spa services including a hot tub and extensive menu of holistic treatments drawing from Greek and international techniques.
  • Fitness Center: There is no gym onsite, but the infinity pool is certainly long enough to do laps.
  • For Guests With Mobility Issues: Many of the hotel’s facilities and a number of their rooms are situated on the ground floor. There are very few steps here compared to other hotels in Santorini. They do not offer roll-in showers or rooms designed specifically for wheelchairs. This makes it a suitable choice for travelers with mild to moderate mobility limitations.
  • For Families: This property caters solely to adult guests ages 14 and older as there are no facilities or accommodations for children, and no rooms can host more than 3 guests.
  • Activities: The concierge team can arrange various activities, like wine sampling, private dinners, horseback riding, caldera cruises, scuba diving, car tours, and more.

  • Breakfast: A complimentary, à la carte breakfast is served daily at Mr. E from 8 am until 11 am. Portions are generous and feature fresh local ingredients, Greek recipes, and international favorites. Coffee is excellent.
  • Room Service: Available around the clock.

Istoria – Rooms

  • Room Types: Saga Suite – Recit Suite – Tarina Suite – Rakonto Suite – Conte Suite – Storia Suite
  • Smoking Areas: Istoria does not allow smoking in any of their rooms. Smoking is permitted on the private terraces and in the outdoor common spaces.
  • Premium Suite: The Storia Suite is their highest category suite and features direct ocean views, 2 balconies, and a spacious 50 square meter area. Its rooftop terrace boasts a private hot tub, lounge chairs, and seated section. The bedroom sleeps 2 on its king bed, while a separate living zone can accommodate a third guest on the fold-out couch.
  • For Families: An solely-grownups hotel, Istoria allows guests aged 14 years and above only. They do not have any conveniences or features for children, and even its most important suites accommodate a maximum of 3 guests. Families of 3 with a child over 14 should opt for the larger suites, such as the aforementioned Storia Suite or the Rakonto Suite, which is only slightly smaller at 45 sqm and which also has 2 balconies and a detached living room with a sofa bed.

Istoria – Local Transport

  • Ambling: Istoria is situated alongside the primary avenue facing Perivolos Beach. An arranged beach, it is served by various clubs, eating places, and shops along its promenade. Several superb dining establishments and beach clubs are within a 1 to 15-minute stroll of Istoria, together with a couple smaller markets and water sports centers. Two different beaches, Perissa, and Agios Georgios, are inside walking distance of the lodging, and Kamari Beach (and with its Outdoor Cinema) is not difficult to reach by boat or automobile; the Kamari-Perissa boat collects at the base of Mesa Vouno mountain, about 13-minutes away on foot.
  • Bus: The bus stop for Perivolos is roughly a 13-minute journey away in Perissa village on the road to Village Market. All buses here head to Fira, where you’ll need to disembark and change buses to reach Oia or different villages. An exception exists at the stop along the route in Megalochori where you can exit to explore the traditional village and vineyards, or you have the choice to connect to a second bus to arrive at Akrotiri. Any other destinations require a transfer in Fira. The entire ride to the port or airport will take no less than one hour (possibly 2) by bus. Tickets are bought aboard and run from €1.80 to €2.50 per individual in daytime hours, based on the route. Night buses (12:30 am to 5 am) operate less often and cost a little higher, from €2.30 to €3.10. Only 23 buses service the island, so the buses can become crowded, particularly during peak season, to such an extent that they regularly max out capacity and are not able to take on more passengers. If your time is restricted, it is best to call a taxi or rent a vehicle to explore outside the Perivolos area

  • Taxis: There isn`t an official taxi stand in Perivolos, so it’s best to have the hotel phone a taxi for you as needed. Only 25 taxis operate on the island, so book in advance when feasible to prevent a wait, and have them meet you directly at the hotel. There will be a small additional cost for advanced reservations and for transporting luggage, generally just a couple of Euros. The average fare from Istoria to Fira or the ferry port is roughly €25 to €35, and from the hotel to the airport is around €30 to €40.
  • Motorbikes: Locals commonly use motor scooters as transport, but unfamiliar roads present hazards. Thoroughfares zigzag steeply upwards and downwards on narrow paths sometimes without guardrails or nighttime illumination. Unpaved trails and potholes are common.
  • ATVs/Quads: ATVs are an enjoyable and popular method of transportation with visitors, but for the locals required to drive behind them, they maneuver too gradually and hold up traffic in an area where moving around is already challenging. For individuals who don’t routinely ride quads (i.e. most people), they can be risky at high speeds and on turns. Crashed your ATV is a guaranteed way to ruin your vacation.
