Established in 1997, this charming vineyard overlooks its grapes just outside the village of Pyrgos. Hatzidakis was the initial to utilize the indigenous red grape variety of Mavrotragano and they cultivate and harvest their crops organically, using only natural raw ingredients. Their cave-like tasting area is carved into the side of a mountain – a 45 to 60-minute tour and sampling covers 6 wines and involves a cheese platter, €20 per person. Hatzidakis is available year-round, though in winter by reservation only. From May to October, drop-ins are welcomed and accommodated, but reservations are advised.

Reaching this winery is best by vehicle – it’s not an easy walk from Pyrgos as it’s located just off a narrow, winding road. If taking the bus (Fira-Perissa route, but not the express Fira-Perissa line), disembark at the last Pyrgos stop – from there, winery arrangements can pick up those with reservations (only for the reserved). Limited parking is available.
