Perissa is an enjoyable coastal town and one of the best Santorini beaches. It has plenty of good eateries, several low-key bars, and a small party atmosphere (beach-style, not clubby). This strip of black sand beach extends along 3 or 4 kms, dotted with hotels and restaurants – at some indistinct point it transitions into Perivolos and then into Agios Georgios, but it all feels like one long stretch. The south end at Agios Georgios Beach is home to a cluster of fine dining restaurants and luxury beach clubs. The sand in Perissa is much finer than you’ll find in pebbly Kamari, just up the coast (getting sandier as you move south towards Perivolos and Agios Georgios), and the swimming is excellent. It’s also farther from Fira and Oia than Kamari Beach, which makes visiting the caldera a bit more of an outing.

Perissa & Perivolos Beaches Information
- Area: Southeast coast of the island with Perissa to the north and Perivolos to the south. Regarding 12 km from the port, 13 km from the airport, 12 km from Fira and 24 km from Oia.
- Parking: There is a large free public parking lot located in Perivolos. There is another free public parking lot available as you come into Perissa heading north on the main road by the final bus stop. There’s also free public parking all along the beach road if you can find it.
- Public transportation: Perissa and Perivolos beaches are both accessible via the Fira-Perissa route. The Perissa bus stop is at the north end of the beach; Perivolos’ bus stop is outside Mera Beach Bar. General public transportation and schedule.
- Dining: Numerous delightful cafes, tavernas, and beach bars line the main road adjacent to the beach. Among our favorites are Mezedaki,Afros,Fougaro Beach,Fretzeskos,41 Forty One,Savvas Popeye, and Gecko Burger Place

The best budget hotel in Perissa/Perivolos, Smaragdi, sits merely a few meters from the shore (a walk less than one minute). The lovely pool and hot tub are served by the poolside bar operating all day, which offers cocktails and light fare. The hotel presents a huge variety of rooms and suites, all spacious, ranging from the entry-level basic room (26 sqm) to the luxury single bedroom Master Suite (42 sqm). Two-story maisonettes are the best alternatives for families, sleeping up to five over two floors. Suites include personal interior or outdoor hot tubs. Great setting near eateries, bars, and a small market.
